Katie, Thank you for filming your Dad!! He is a treasure, to us. Heck, he's a National Treasure. We have his books near our bed, to reference as we are planning our garden. We have followed his advice for many plants, we are growing an Appalachian Joy dogwood, several parrotia, and roof top iris. We live in Statesboro, GA and we love your Dad, Dr.Dirr.

Hi Mike! It’s great to see you! We are still planting and caring for plants and use your manual regularly. What a wonderful surprise to find you on TH-cam!

Dear Mr Dirr, thank you for all the wonderful contributions you've made to horticulture over the years. Your name is on one of my textbooks from my horticulture college days. My favorite fragrance in the garden has to be witch hazel. Thank you for a great garden tour! It gives hope to us farther north.

Dr. It's good to see and hear you. I love your books. I'm retired at 65 and now working with Bonsai trees. Thanks Katie . 😊😊

Preeminent authority on woody ornamental plants. Dr. Dirr has been a guiding light for my entire horticultural career, and I have a garden full of his recommendations
EDIT: I did get to meet Dr. Dirr on two occasions in the late 80s/early 90s, and he personally autographed two of my MOWLP

Just subscribed. You are a wealth of information. You are the master of trees and shrubs. My landscape teacher introduced me to your growing back in the day. At 75, I am still learning from the master.

What a delight to have you share these specimens with everyone. Nice to put a face and voice to the author of my decades old bible.

I just planted three Mahonia Marvel last Fall and was thrilled to see them in bloom. After watching your video I went out to check them and was furious to see that the deer had really chewed 2 of them. I shouldn’t have been surprised because they demolished my holly trees. Just proves that spiky leaves are no deterrent for deer.

Really enjoy these videos Mike, please keep them coming! I planted two Lindera agustifolia in my Oregon garden (Z8b) after seeing your video with Jim Putnam. They did indeed have excellent fall color, and while I'm not typically a fan of brown leaves hanging on throughout the winter, these really do have a lovely, unique rich color, thank you for highlighting them. I also planted Parrotia subaequalis which was already dormant, really looking forward to seeing it in leaf and fall color. Mahonia Marvel has been on my wish list for a while but the prices here on the west coast have been bonkers. My Hellebores are blooming beautifully and I'm always adding more, despite the high prices! Best to you, your wife and Katie, looking forward to more videos!

My neighbors have a friend from California coming to live. They've bought 4'×2'×1' planters for the deck in part shade and want them planted up nice for a March arrival. Some great ideas here, now if I can find good plant material!

Beautiful video. Every bit as good as football- actually you should make more of these so we can avoid the Superbowl halftime, something of value to watch between halves!
