Dear Kaustubham, Thanks a lot for displaying the present condition of well known railway of Warhad (Berar) called SHAKUNTALA. The British had started this railway not for the convenience of Indians but for carrying cotton and teakwood from rural and tribal areas. Achalpur (Ilichpur) & Yeotmal were the centres of collecting the goods and Murtizapur was the main spot from where it was carried to Bombay. Bombay and Calcutta were the main ports from where the whole collected goods was carried to England. Actually the British were very clever. They carried pure and most valuable cotton & teakwood to their country. That's why, they had resumed this train in 1913. The work of laying sleepers & tracks was started in 1911 and carrying of goods in 1913. Then travelling of passengers was commenced in 1916. Thank you.

I am passionate about Indian railways, especially the metric and narrow gauge. Unfortunately I live very far from where you live (in France). This video really appeals to me because it is the only one to detail the locomotive dépôt of the ZDM 4 in this way. The taste for railways cannot be explained. In every country, there are enthusiasts. These two young railroad enthusiasts must have this passion otherwise they would not have shown us this video. I only travel on TH-cam and I wouldn't have done it on a sightseeing package. A passionate Indian offered to invite me and travel with him on a network, it's comforting. I have driven a locomotive before. As for the locomotives featured here, which I like, Indian Railways have published their full service book online.
Please do not abandoned this Narrow gauge Railway, Rather make it Dual Gauge so that Both Narrow Gauge and broad gauge railway can run on this tracks. Make the narrow railway as Heritage tourist train .
Wonderful coverage of this once gem narrow gauge network, Kaustubham. Good commentary too... I'm really heartbroken to learn the closure of this legendary NG route, that too in absurd manner ☹ The height of mismanagement is that there's no trace of broad gauge conversion even now. I am lucky enough to have visited Shakuntala Railway on the Independence Day of 2016 & I regret not going to Yavatmal. The NG line to YTL goes over the BG line. Try visiting that crossover if possible. I do hope that the BG conversion plan fails & this NG gets a new life one day soon... just an unrealistic wish !!!

I heard it is still technically hold by brit co. But IR should maintain & develop as Narrow gauge tourist/ local train, by even PPC method also. But must run as heritage one
This era never come back. Stations or sheds like these were remarkable. Because the staff working, the maintenance they kept, supervisors, all these were awesome. But the saying never change, "Time and tide wait for none.".😢

Rahul: Akola-Mhow stopped operating since 2017, now Akola-Akot(42kms) is converted to Broadguage and finally CRS inspection is about to happen by June end. Hope to see this track operational by July mid. Khandwa-Amlakhurd broadguage conversion also in progress.. mainly Akot-Amlakhurd is pending due to tiger reserved area falling in between. Lets hope this whole track Mhow-Akot broadguage conversion gets completed soon..
शंकुतला नरोगेज को अभीतक 3 से 4 बार सवॆक्षण होकर केंद्र सरकार रु.2147 कोटी मान्यता देकर रेल्वे सहाय्यक संचालक आंनद एम कृष्णा बाॅडगेज मान्यता सुचना मध्य रेल्वे महाव्यवस्थापक व्दारा राज्य सरकार के मुख्यमंत्री पत्र देकर सुचित किया 50% भार राज्यशासन को देना इसके पहले भी 1992 मे नियोजन आयोग भी 50 % निधी राज्य शासन को केंद्र को देकर बाॅडगेज माश्यता मा .ना सुरेश प्रभु रेल्वे मंत्री ने 2016 मंजुरी करके अभी राज्य शासन के पास प्रस्ताव बाकी है वैसेभी वधा से नांदेड मागॆ के वजह से यवतमाळ से अचलपुर बाॅडगेज परिवतीत होगा आम जनता जागरूक होनी चाहीये

I wish it doesn't convert to BG as the heritage element will be lost... Till the time it was under British control, it was working and now it is not as it's under Indian government.... What a sad state of affairs.... The train fare was just 20 bucks for people even when it was closed forever... Whereas the actual price of a bus ticket from Yavatmal to Achalpur is much higher in comparison....
Hi! Aap shayad rail fan hai, aur mujhe bhi train abandoned jagah mein ghoomna achha lagta hai. Main Mumbai se hoon, Old local trains scrap hone par inki durdadasha nahi dekhi ja sakti. Yahan pe DC traction se AC traction conversion ke baad bahut si EMU trains scrap hua tha, inko phir crashed ke corner mein khada kar diya gaya tha kaafi saal tak inke colors us gaye, rusted ho gaye etc. Crashed restricted area hone me karan EMU trains me photos air videos allowed nahin hai.

shakuntala diesel nahi steam engein pe doudati thi ,1995 tak . tab steam par daudane wala akela steam engein tha aur ise ke liye shakuntala femous thi all over the wourld. bachpan me mai iski sawari kiya karta tha , mai running train me chadta aur running me kud jaata tha iskaran maine apne parents se maar bhi khayi kain baar . tab isme steam engein tha bahut majaa aata tha,tab ye hamare kheto se gujarti thi. it was an amaizing experiance . wo din ab nahi lout sakate.

It is not necessary to connect every tom dick n harry village to Big cities. Develop the villages, retain their uniqueness n history, that also includes the narrow metre gauge railways, develop possible tourism home stays while providing income to families around without overcrowding.

In India Narrow-gauge railways were started before 100 years. In our gujarat in 1865 vadodara princess started narrow-gauge railway between dabhoi to miyagam karjan. It is our Goodluck that that line is running positively. Narrow-gauge railways is our heritage property. And it is railway department responsibility to continue all the narrow-gauge lines by great proud.

Bhai ye ek british operated train thi jo railways unhe 120 cr deti thi. Ye unprofitable thi bus ek contract ki wajah railways ise chala rahi thi, jab contract khatam hua to thode din chalyee ye train baad ye band kar di. Is train se railways koee income nahi tha.
Murtazapur- Daryapur-Achalpur section and Murtazapur-Yavatmal section. Ticket price was Rs. 10 from Daryapur to Achalpur. Ticket counter was at the last bogie of the train. Daily 2 times service from Daryapur to and fro. One of the best journey ever I had. It's goes over agricultural land.

I am lucky enough to have visited Shakuntala Railway on the Independence Day of 2016 & I regret not going to Yavatmal. The NG line to YTL goes over the BG line. Try visiting that crossover if possible. I do hope that the BG conversion plan fails & this NG gets a new life one day soon... just an unrealistic wish !!!

Rahul: Akola-Mhow stopped operating since 2017, now Akola-Akot(42kms) is converted to Broadguage and finally CRS inspection is about to happen by June end. Hope to see this track operational by July mid.
Khandwa-Amlakhurd broadguage conversion also in progress.. mainly Akot-Amlakhurd is pending due to tiger reserved area falling in between. Lets hope this whole track Mhow-Akot broadguage conversion gets completed soon..

I wish it doesn't convert to BG as the heritage element will be lost... Till the time it was under British control, it was working and now it is not as it's under Indian government.... What a sad state of affairs.... The train fare was just 20 bucks for people even when it was closed forever... Whereas the actual price of a bus ticket from Yavatmal to Achalpur is much higher in comparison....

Old local trains scrap hone par inki durdadasha nahi dekhi ja sakti. Yahan pe DC traction se AC traction conversion ke baad bahut si EMU trains scrap hua tha, inko phir crashed ke corner mein khada kar diya gaya tha kaafi saal tak inke colors us gaye, rusted ho gaye etc. Crashed restricted area hone me karan EMU trains me photos air videos allowed nahin hai.

It is not necessary to connect every tom dick n harry village to Big cities. Develop the villages, retain their uniqueness n history, that also includes the narrow metre gauge railways, develop possible tourism home stays while providing income to families around without overcrowding.

In India Narrow-gauge railways were started before 100 years. In our gujarat in 1865 vadodara princess started narrow-gauge railway between dabhoi to miyagam karjan. It is our Goodluck that that line is running positively. Narrow-gauge railways is our heritage property. And it is railway department responsibility to continue all the narrow-gauge lines by great proud.

Murtazapur- Daryapur-Achalpur section and Murtazapur-Yavatmal section. Ticket price was Rs. 10 from Daryapur to Achalpur. Ticket counter was at the last bogie of the train. Daily 2 times service from Daryapur to and fro. One of the best journey ever I had. It's goes over agricultural land.
