12 live service games is baffling. Why would you want 12 games under your banner all competing for the players time and money. Helldivers is enough of a time sink and i try to balance that with Space Marine 2. Why would i want MORE?
Any time a gaming company gets overconfident they get complacent, and they start making bad decisions. When they're doing badly, they start having to innovate or really appeal to the masses.

It always baffle me how Sony just decided to tunnel vision on the success history's in the live service landscape, when, for every billion dollar live service, there's 5+ that crash's and burns, with millions of dollars lost and multiple studios shutdowns.
Man... literally no one cares about Horizon anymore. Yeah the first one sold good. But you can just play a better Horizon on a switch (botw). The Lego Horizon nobody bought and the mmorpg would be dead on arrival. Great video man that hair is crazy.
Yeah i played the first and it had some novelty for just 1 game. Its not good enough to make a franchise out of it imo. Played the second one on psplus and it was a mix of boring/irritating mixed with some cool robots. Awfull dialogue and low risk beh. And tbh im beginning to feel the same about god of war.
I loved my first playthough of the first game. I had interest in the second and figured I would pick it up eventually and now I forget it exists. I think a big problem is that dialogue choices don't matter. On repeat playthroughs, dialogue choices just slow down the game even more. None of it matters so for the few hours I did play on NG+ I just hit the first choice it without thinking.
Horizon had some fantastic world building and writing (thanks to John Gonzalez, who was the lead writer on Fallout New Vegas.) Too bad the actual _game_ part was Diet Ubisoft.
Never got the hype around that mediocre franchise anyway. I'm even convinced it was sheer mass hysteria created by the MSM. There was NO CRITICISM to be found in ANY review at the release of the first game. Everybody and their dam Chihuahua was gushing about the oh, so amazing graphics, but nobody ever mentioned that the effin game doesn't even have any physics in it! Which is straight up pathetic for a AAA project from a Sony studio, especially after everything we saw in Uncharted 4 a year prior. Hell, even early 2000's games had physics, that's no novelty at all, but a minimum standard! Yet, not a single mofo out there that told it how it is - not being able to interact with anything in a modern AAA OW game is BAD, to put it mildly. But of course, this game had a ton of other issues as well, like your typical virtuous girl boss MC, the dead OW that has absolutely nothing going for it except for the robots, the constant annoying farming for the healing plants, the clunky switching between potions mid-fight, also having to switch your whole outfits for the buffs needed for the certain enemy type, the bland side quests and the overall Ubisoft-esque formulaic quest design and Witcher-copied following the traces mechanic... I also didn't like the abrupt change in the day/night cycle and that you just can't walk 10 feet in peace without getting into an another encounter with those robots. The map is LITTERED with these things and it's gotten tiresome and annoying real quick. It's blatantly apparent how much the devs wanted to show off with that new robo-concept of theirs, making them the sole focus of every effin inch in the game. No other innovations whatsoever. The player was supposed to gush over that design Non-stop from the beginning to the end. And it just felt cheap to me. I acknowledged the robots for the first couple of hours and wanted to be just done with them after that. All in all, the game wasn't nearly as revolutionary as people made it out to be. I ended up confused and disappointed. Once again, Public Enemy's words of wisdom remain true: Don't believe the hype!
If only Playstation could tap into some popular but unused IP that lingers on garbage hardware, then they wouldn't have to resort to churning out Last of Us and Horizon re-releases...
Game is bad when bald female protagonist I guess? The trailer quite literally showed nothing. I have no clue if the game will be bad or good, but it's a bit frustrating that many gamers started thinking "game bad" because of either the protagonist being female or the protagonist having a "non-feminine"/atypical haircut. The only criticism I've agreed with is the pushy product placement, but all the other criticism is baseless and/or insane.

@rickybobby5153 Facts. I have over 100 games installed, the only one that's current gen is Stalker 2, but even that needs tons of patches and isn't fully ready to play yet. The Resident Evil 4 remake doesn't count because it was technically ported onto PS4 as well. I'm currently waiting for the Trials of Sky remake, Snake Eater Delta, the Gothic remake, and recently picked up the Tales of Graces f remaster. We can see a pattern here, all the best games are remakes and remasters. I'm also waiting for the Oblivion remake lol. I can't believe there's some people that are actually excited for next-gen consoles already.

Sony forgot veriaty of games, more options the better. Trying just one type of game is bad even an idiot knows this but somehow Sony doesn't, especially live service making everything that is very bad.
These studios were made aware of the canceled games internally before the media got ahold of the story. Not sure how long but that's an untrue rumour that they found out the same time we did.
i think sonys strategy of remastering and remaking isnt inherently bad but jesus christ stop remastering games we can already play on ps4 and ps5. give console gamers games that they havent had the chance to play instead of rereleasing stuff from the last decade.
It seems like in the last 5 years, the games industry invested almost exclusively in live service games, just as most players grew sick of them. I think we are heading for a(short term) games industry crash. It will be a good thing, eventually.
If PlayStation was a well-run division of Sony with sensible, smart management, I'd be encouraged for the future. But they're the Cleveland Browns of gaming. They'll screw this up. Astro Bot was that playoff appearance that came out of nowhere a few years back in this metaphor.
Hopefully at least some of these studios new projects can salvage some of their previous live service work, and put it towards their new projects… Being forced into that kind of project, then have it suddenly and unceremoniously canceled after years of work anyways would SUCK.
Remember when they were so smug about only investing in live service, like 4 years ago. And that one CEO was bragging about how he was gonna charge players for ammo when they run out. Like clearly he came up with that idea in the boardroom and he’s so proud of it. So much of corporate culture then came from this position where they think they can force literally anything down our throats. We are just to buy literally whatever they tell us to. The wokesters still have that attitude. That we HAVE to buy concord and dragon age, because they said so!
I really want to see smaller titles return. They're excellent ways to fund bigger titles, and smaller games are just nice to have as palate cleansers. There's a reason why indie games are so popular, so it was pretty damn foolish of Sony to cut all funding towards them in order to shovel out live service games that nobody wanted.
Finally someone said it, God, I was so tired of people thinking the whole company is "Dead" like Ubisoft is, they're having a massive reality check, that's how it is and I LIVE for it!
I spoke about the incoming collapse for yrs, talking to ponies reminded me of the makers of the Titanic that said not even God could sink it then came that piece of ice....
Sony either stops dancing like monkeys to the whims of their largest investors or we’re just going to be getting single player versions of Concord instead.
So what you’re saying is they could have made 150 bloodborne remakes for the cost of all these canceled live service slop and decided not to even patch the game for 60fps. Unreal
You two gotta touch grass. Talking like that rumor or the "truth" are things most people would even hear about lol. In the process of researching the video, the news can easily change under his nose and he didn't catch it.
"everything is incredibly expensive" yeah, things tend to get expensive when you do stupid moves like burning 400 millions in a game like Concord that no one cares or even want to touch; things can really get expensive when you give absurd amount of money to CEOs throughout bonuses and salaries, execs that virtually do nothing but to be a dead weight in the way of devs (actual devs, not mentally ill activists)
Bit of correction, the news of both studios finding out about their games getting canceled at the last minute is untrue. Jason already defunct that rumor.
Thank you SO MUCH for not being a doomer about this whole situation Mug. Really, this kind of quiet/cautious optimism is exactly what is needed right now, not just for the PlayStation market but just in general. I definitely think that a positive shift is coming, there might still be some time before we truly start seeing it clearly but I will keep hoping for it. In the meantime, I still have games which I greatly enjoy playing (and things outside of the gaming space as well) so really, there's no reason to mope around. Great content as always! Looking forward to your next outing!
I bought every Sony console until the PS4 mostly because I enjoy RPGs. The only live-service game I've ever played was Helldivers 2 .. on PC. Would I have bought a PS5 to play it? No. Is there any other game exclusive to the PS5 that I'm interested in? No, because both of the ones I want have already been announced to come to PC this year. So yeah even 4 years in I'm still waiting for a reason to need a PS5. The only Xbox I ever owned was the 360 for pretty much the same reason. In contrast there are currently 3 Switches in our household and we still regularly play on SNES and Wii U as well and yet the most game time is spent on PC 🤣
Ending development of live service games I will never play, not even the Horizon one. Will hopefully be good news as they can concentrate on making fun games that don’t require a subscription or having to deal with random people to play.
I've used my ps5 more for classic stuff like skyrim and mass effect rather than any good first party titles. Ps5 should have been an amazing generation for games but Sony's insistence on pushing live service slop has resulted in a bunch of failed or underwhelming multiplayer games and only a handful of decent single player titles. It's so disappointing that had to wait almost 4 years after launch to get one only to see that their library was so limited
Hearing the idea of a PlayStation launcher on PC made my stomach churn. Imagine we finally get Bloodborne on PC, but it can only be purchased and played through the PlayStation launcher. The monkey's paw curled.
Gaming hasn't been in such bad shape for decades - the """Triple A""" myth *destroyed* the industry Waiting ten years for an announced game to launch, which launches broken and it's less interactive than games which released two generations earlier 😅 We peaked with PS2
I think that you just made the most important point, if concord was a good game, everyone would be celebrating it, playing it and it would be making a lot of money, the same for those other projects, but then thing is that they are just bad games, so no one is playing them.
Genuinely wish Microsoft and Sony would just partner up. Shared profits and no exclusives. Nobody actually cares about console wars. Gamers just want to play together. Games like Helldivers 2 would be an even bigger goldmine if us xbox players could access it. I even remember PS players petitioning for it to be on Xbox for that very reason. Xbox seems to be improving, but they've got a long way to go. Sony need to look back at their PS2 days and remember what made that console so legendary. I hope they do better.

Listen to me Sony, I am going to say this very slowly “All you have to do is make Monster Hunter World but with Horizon Forbidden West visuals and you will rake in millions!!”
They need to go back to making single player games and leave PC as well as mobile alone. Put all of their resources back into the console. There has been no payoff from PC and we never get PC numbers for their games for a reason. They did not even say how much HD2 sold on PC. They should have never got rid of their smaller studios which had a quick turn around and shorter dev cycle. Astrobot needed better promotion so it could sell better and have a higher profit margin since the budget was small. Sony dropped the ball on mid level games, which is how Nintendo has consistent revenue and no problem making profit from their first party.

Even if they concentrate solely on single player games, that's not enough. They will keep trying and trying GAAS.

Nintendo is the market leader, not sony.
@@DongKEKong in what metric? Consoles sold? Yes. Marketshare? Depends. Revenue? No, this is Sony.
Nintendo has sold more switch consoles than sony sold ps5 consoles, but sony is earning more money with playstation, than Nintendo with gaming.
Nintendo is better in quality, but Sony is better in terms of revenue, unfortunately
@@raskirorikson1104 the net profit is also in Nintendo’s favor, along with brand recognition and exclusivity. The Universal studios park and rides, the Illumination movie(s), and the number one selling console in US history has allowed Nintendo to take the lead. The Switch 2 is being downplayed now just as the Switch 1 was, but the April direct and the subsequent software reveal are going to silence a lot of this console war noise. It’s PC and Nintendo, specifically its Nintendo IP and the superior graphics and freedom of the PC market. Switch 2 is an XboX, but nothing else is Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Smash Bros. Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Metroid, or even Yoshi. That isn’t for lack of trying, Astrobot was a good move forward but not enough and a little too late.
Yes Nintendo is the market period, it doesn’t need to be the leader it’s the actual market right now. Steam deck follows, Lenovo made a switch too, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has stayed in the top twenty for nearly a decade for top sellers in the gaming market. It’s basically this, have fun on Nintendo and or go to PC for the more competitive gaming experiences. Sony can come back but it will likely be in a publishing capacity on PC to make any headway into the market next gen.
and there has been no shortage of remasters and remakes from Nintendo as well
@raskirorikson1104 Nintendo actually being the most profitable one out of the 3 if you don't count PC and Mobile into that competition...
12 live service games is baffling. Why would you want 12 games under your banner all competing for the players time and money. Helldivers is enough of a time sink and i try to balance that with Space Marine 2. Why would i want MORE?
Someone at Sony is developmentally impaired
Except usually 10 die and 2 win big, which offsets it. Here basically 12 died.
I suppose if 1 is a big hit it offsets the costs of the others. I have no interest in live service games. Hopefully I’m in the majority.
why did no one realize this before hand? redfall was right there burning their corpse in the sun and playstation thought they could do better?
Any time a gaming company gets overconfident they get complacent, and they start making bad decisions. When they're doing badly, they start having to innovate or really appeal to the masses.
Live service has damaged traditional video game development long enough!!!

Sony wasted the whole generation chasing a trend?!? What?? Then they wanted us to pay full MSRP for games that should free to play! Greedy SOB's.

Man... literally no one cares about Horizon anymore.
I loved HZD and mostly liked HFW, but the story wasn't as good and woke crept in. NOT getting the 3rd Horizon game.
Horizon had some fantastic world building and writing (thanks to John Gonzalez, who was the lead writer on Fallout New Vegas.)
Too bad the actual _game_ part was Diet Ubisoft.
Sony pushing tlou and concord and horizon zero interest on us like there is no tomorrow...what do they all have in common?

Game is bad when bald female protagonist I guess? The trailer quite literally showed nothing. I have no clue if the game will be bad or good, but it's a bit frustrating that many gamers started thinking "game bad" because of either the protagonist being female or the protagonist having a "non-feminine"/atypical haircut. Literally the absolute worst console generation in the entire 35 years I’ve been alive
As a PC user I am still not buying Sony games because I am afraid of them asking me to make a PSN account to play their games.
bluepoint committed the sin of deleting/altering lore-relevant architecture in demons souls, which instantly cleanses them of my appreciation

Sony forgot veriaty of games, more options the better. Trying just one type of game is bad even an idiot knows this but somehow Sony doesn't, especially live service making everything that is very bad.
and here I was wondering when we’d get news on a new God of War, only to find out now that whatever they were planning next is cancelled
Man first party for the second half of ps5 is cooked
It seems like in the last 5 years, the games industry invested almost exclusively in live service games, just as most players grew sick of them. I think we are heading for a(short term) games industry crash. It will be a good thing, eventually.
Being a paystation fan in 2025 is crazy
Milhouse: “Looks like the bubble burst.”
Sony: “Bubbles can burst?!”
If PlayStation was a well-run division of Sony with sensible, smart management, I'd be encouraged for the future.
But they're the Cleveland Browns of gaming. They'll screw this up. Astro Bot was that playoff appearance that came out of nowhere a few years back in this metaphor.
Bluepoint, Boodbourne.
Bluepoint, Metal Gear Solid, though that ship has sailed.
Doesn't take a multi millionaire CEO to figure this out Herman.
Hopefully at least some of these studios new projects can salvage some of their previous live service work, and put it towards their new projects… Being forced into that kind of project, then have it suddenly and unceremoniously canceled after years of work anyways would SUCK.
When they doubled PSP subscription prices my 25 uears of buying Playstation games ended in a heartbeat.
I'm glad they cancelled the live service games.
What I love about your videos is that you don’t talk too fast and enunciate words clearly.
Wait, THAT'S what they had Bluepoint working on all this time? FFS...
Don’t people do this with Xbox like every week?
Feature complete with real dlc expansions. No less. I'm not wasting my money on live service.
They don’t call it CensorStation and Soyny for nothing. Perish.
The problem was caused from them getting arrogant from having one up on Microsoft for a decade.
The fact that anything HZD related got cancelled means Hulst and Playstation America is losing power.
First ubisoft and now Sony.
Are we actually getting them to give a damn about what the gamers want for like 2 years?
So what you’re saying is they could have made 150 bloodborne remakes for the cost of all these canceled live service slop and decided not to even patch the game for 60fps.

I'll feel more assured the moment Japan takes back over the company.

First honest take I have heard online ty. Much appreciated 👍
Maybe if they didn’t spend 400 million on woke crap….
Hearing the idea of a PlayStation launcher on PC made my stomach churn. Imagine we finally get Bloodborne on PC, but it can only be purchased and played through the PlayStation launcher. The monkey's paw curled.
Its already emulated on PC, no need for it.
Pony can stop flailing around like a headless chicken and give us what we want, good single.player games and PS2-3 backwards compatibility
Gaming hasn't been in such bad shape for decades - the """Triple A""" myth *destroyed* the industry
Waiting ten years for an announced game to launch, which launches broken and it's less interactive than games which released two generations earlier 😅
We peaked with PS2
Sony need a change of management tbh, hopefully Sony of Japan step in and retake control because Sony of America is a joke that's damaging the brand!
I think that you just made the most important point, if concord was a good game, everyone would be celebrating it, playing it and it would be making a lot of money, the same for those other projects, but then thing is that they are just bad games, so no one is playing them.
The optimism is great, but the pessimist in me thinks these execs will just go: “ours will be different!”
The Sony cycle: Earn goodwill, spend goodwill, get dunked on. repeat.
If Xbox was a tiny bit competent, PlayStation would be finished by now
@@nashbullet3213Xbox is not trying to finish Sony. Instead they actually want to use Sony and their hardware to their advantage. Since selling software is how you make money in this business
where is the infamous remake? Why did we need remasters of horizon and tlou?
3:00 OH THANK GOD!! I would be so sad if the Monster Hunter Horizon spin-off got cancelled coz I am genuinely convinced that Horizon is the only existing IP so far that stands a chance against Monster Hunter due to how they make their animal machines and “echo systems”.
