i've watched quite a few covers of this song simply because it has been one of my favorite 80's song with the killer bass line and you have completely nailed it.
Sal Cuevas played the bass in this song..was an American salsa bassist known for his association with the Fania All-Stars from 1978 to 1985. Cuevas enjoyed the title of musical director to Willie Colón's orchestra both during Willie's collaborations with famed Panamanian singer/songwriter/actor Rubén Blades and Colón's solo singing ventures. He played bass on Billy Idol's hit "Eyes Without a Face" from the 1983 studio album Rebel Yell.
Yes perfect no criticism of the playing but Steve Webster did not play bass on this track he played on most of the album but Sal Cuevas played on this tune only
I just tried looking it up. Apparently they used a synth on Black Velvet. Either way, there are a lot of session musicians who flew under the radar on so many good songs
I have an electric guitar but I really wish I could learn this. it has been stuck in my head for days and I think of this melody often. Very well done! let me know If there is any way I could play this.
During the slapping section your tabs are different than what you're playing (different muted notes), which makes it a bit difficult to learn. I'm trying to read one thing and I'm hearing another. Thanks for the tab either way, though.
Very underrated bassline
Agreed. Simple but sexy.
Simple but unusual bassline that totally made the song
This is one of the amazing bass lines! 😎👍🏾

What a killer bass line!
The Verses are great for plucking hand 1/16ths...plus space in the backend of the bar for timing/rhythm practice.
The slap/pop section is very cool!
This is one of my favorites songs from all time. Excellent job 👏
great job i'm sure Sal would be proud

Good job, but you need to add the ghost notes in the tab or it won't sound right.
