CDA 129 What kind of parrot is this, are they friendlier than a gray? Do they screech? Thanks! Terry

It is a male Eclectus. I was raised on an exotic bird farm. I am now and have always been associated with parrots. They do not screech like the new world parrots, still - yes they vocalize. Gray's are special. They should rarely be kept as pets. They will often self mutilate, pluck feathers and create small cuts. This is because few people can give them what they require. A person would do better with this Eclectus, they are calmer, and the females are super cool looking. Look up female eclectus. If you want a parrot and aren't familiar with them, I suggest a Senegal. Very quiet very intelligent. Very adaptive, fun and easy going.

sorry if I was to wordy. But I truly love parrots and want only the best for them. Disclaimer: I typed all these words with a rescued brown headed parrot on my shoulder.

I can not understand why people don't put them in harness outside as they panic fly away and even no matter how close you are to them you rarely get them back. They will not survive due to weather and predators . So love this baby . So dangerous

7777LORENZO I have a DYY that flew away and after staying frozen on the same branch (60 feet or so high) for 3 days I was able to get him down. I was so grateful, I still care for him very well. Only thing he received a ruptured air sac from the fall he took in the method we used to get him back :[ but he's acted 100% normal since.
I plan on getting a harness, but I want him to take baby steps because even though that was years ago, I know he might still have the trauma. He flies constantly in my apartment though haha
      He's 19 years old :D

some birds can have heart attacks because of a harness so most people wont put birds in them it can also lead to ur bird losing some trust in you

I had nightmares until it happened to my baby girl. I have to say I have helped others who just lost their bird, get that bird back; from parakeets to love birds what ever and we just stayed with the bird and ALWAYS got it back!! The main thing is to never lose sight of your bird. You have to know that the bird is terrified. Your bird is not in shape for flying in this big big world. They tire easily. Just do not let them out of your site for a second...or at least where you saw them flying last. Have others get your shoes, a bag of goodies, peanuts, special bell and catch up with you. Do not allow anything to distract you. I had clipped Betty's wing feathers (African Grey Parrot)so she could hang out with me. I left the 2 main wing feathers on each wing. We enjoyed a wonderful day in the wilderness and when packing up to leave, the wind picked up, she flew off as if she had fully feathered wings. She flew off on a slope so I could see her FLY oh so far away... Whoa...I was barefoot and I went running immediately. The area was huge but I could see where she arced and must have landed. (I am a barefoot nut so my feet were fine...) My hubby got my shoes, bag of peanuts and joined in our little ha ha ha safari. He found her first but tried to use a huge branch....well, she flew off again and we are talking about a huge area and distances. EIGHT hours later, getting dark, I was doing our calls and shaking the bag of peanuts and amazingly I heard her 'I am pissed off and hungry screetch'...she was in some low trees I climbed up with my bag of peanuts and let me tell you I did not care one bit about grabbing her bodily, bites and all...she could have taken my hand off and I would not have cared one bit! She did not bite btw. What a moment of wonderful happiness and relief. There is no way I would ever abandon the search so I make sure that never ever happens again! She's fully flight capable but no more testing wings on my time. I could never abandon her to the cold, predators....forget that. Do not give up. I've helped rescue 5 birds...it works. Not a one did we not get back if we stayed with the bird!

They can’t fly away if you trim their flight feathers. You can do that so they can fly enough ( about 5-6) feet to flee from like something she doesn’t like, but can’t take flight and take off.

@@ArtificialgeneralInteligence Well, for birds the usual is fruit and vegetables, a little seed mix, but these birds love regular food too Sassy loves my husband, she has breakfast with him, she loves a little egg, bread or toast, They really like potatoes and other foods too but within reason.

I belong to the group who clip their birds wings. This summer a McCaw flew off their owners shoulder here and was lost, they didn't believe it was right to clip them.

It's not right to clip a bird's wings nor is it right to bring them outside without a harness.
