I'm a bit annoyed by mostly Dutchies saying that they don't feel anything after hearing and watching this song. I mean, how can you not feel anything? The voice, the story behind it, her emotions, the vibe, everything gives me goosebumps and even some tears. Even when you don't speak Dutch, you will feel that there is a deeper meaning in this song. I think it's a big plus that we sent something in Dutch for a change. It was about time! Stien is true inspiration for many (young) people around the world. She even gave a free concert for young people with mental disorders, just to cheer them up during the pandemic. I mean, how amazing is that in itself? I agree with you, William, that they should go for very minimalist and intimate staging. Something like they did with Duncan and Anouk, indeed. I also believe this could be a top 5 song. A dark horse! I'm wasn't always a fan of our more recent entries, except for Duncan, but this is probably my nr 1 right now.

Because there are many good Dutch-singing artists and we have been blessed with beautiful songs the past months and the lyrics hit everyone different I guess

I love this song. I don't understand the lyrics but she carried me through her depths of her soul. Doesn't matter where she gonna end up in terms of ranking. The matter is a big thank you for being present and sharing her story and art.

This is a dark horse. With good staging this top 5. My second listen I fell in love with it.
For some people, it might take a few listens to get into it. Not sure if that's a good thing though. It's my favorite entry so far!

@@xxxxxxxx8634 oh it's totally one of my favourites this year. It is however not yet being mentioned as a potential winner. But I defo feel it could be like the common linnets in that people are sleeping on it and not yet considering it as a favourite. She performed it live recently and the staging was great. I think it needed a small tweek by maybe adding some subtle backing vocals to the chorus but other than that she was great live.

As a Dutchie I was positively surprised. Most Dutch people (at least as far as I know) aren't fond of songs sung in our native language, but S10 makes it work. I hope the best for her and a top 10 position is very possible! :D

@@Wiwibloggs Dutch language music has long been of the ‘schlager’ genre, not the most complex musically and lyrically. And Dutch hiphop, which isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. But recently there have been quite a few more Dutch language indie/pop artists of which S10 is one, their music is much more deep and emotional. It’s a revival of Dutch language pop.

In the last couple of years there have been more interesting Dutch artists like Froukje and Meau. It depends on the musicallity of the song but there are really interesting Dutch songs being made
The odds say top 10, but I saw the live version with that brilliant light effects. Therefore for me the biggest dark horse - if you can say that to a top 10 contender...

I was worried for this because William has his heart on his tongue and I was afraid that he would think it was boring but even though he doesn't onderstand Dutch he gets her. Proves that languages and music are universal. Love that!

I love s10 so much. She has always struggled with depression and psychosis and always stays true to herself and her own style in everything she does. To me she represents hope. She still has depression but she deals with it and she doesn't shy away from it.

I saw a few put the lyrics in to Englisch , but some sentences are hard to translate , for instance " ach ik lijk wel een kind " becomes " I am so childish " that does'nt feel as what she meant to say .
Maybe when you find the right wurds as S10 did , Dutch is'nt such a hard , unlikeable language after all 🙂

Looking at the odds from the bookmakers I don't get really happy, but personally I think that this is some kind of underdog maybe. If they get a perfect staging the feeling that will go trough the arena will be amazing and hopefully it will also reach the people who are watching home. This is for sure a finalist, I cannot wait to see how it will do!
The odds are very odd sometimes. It will definitely not be nr 20. I can see this ending up in the top 5, or top 10 at least. It's an underdog. I think juries will give many points for high quality songs like this.
@@jeremiahdosset7014 I've heard that the Common Linnets were number 30 in the odds before the live performance, and climbed to the top after it. Live performances will change a lot, so it's probably too early to follow the odds.

My vision for the staging for me would be her out there on her own, darkness around. Spotlight. Perhaps something in the background during certain parts. You can feel the pain, The video itself felt like she was being thrown back into the past, and at the end of it she turned around and walked away from the memories.

She struggled with suicidal thoughts, the voices in her head and her troubled past in psychiatry. In the documentary 'S10: Storm om mij heen' you can see some of it (actually the beginning reminds me of the message for this song 'De Diepte'). S10 - 'Adem Je In' is another beautiful song of her.
I have watched several reactions since the song reveals.. I love it when you all say..:"I' ve got goosebumps ..I had them too...and I love she is really singing and not shouting ...I love her voice ..A little like a little having a cold but very clear end sereen ..but not loud ..the lyrics are so true..we have just lost our mother and this so nice too heal up and morn..this song is the best..It can be jused in movies

Netherlands is finally sending a song in Dutch! It’s been way too long.
S10 publiced her first songs when she was only 17 and since a couple of years I'm such a fan of her. She's so talented and it's amazing to see her grow from a small artist to a Eurovision contestant! Via social media I sometimes speak to the some bandmembers and they're so kind. I'm so excited for Eurovision and I've got tickets for her tour, can't wait!

I really love the song! It was nice to hear from you that even when you don't understand the lyrics, the meaning carries through! I very much agree with the person who said that it was not a song made for Eurovision, but it was a song from our own market, and I think that is very true, Dutch pop is on the rise again and this is a great example of that!

Her song is about the sadness and the memories you carry with you. Everyone experiences events in their life that are difficult. "We must keep hoping and rejoicing, that will take us far, you can see that in me." Singer Stien den Hollander has also come 'from far' herself. After years of psychological problems and youth care, she now has the wind behind her. She says about her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest: “I'm doing it for that Stien and all the other people who have been to that place. It can just work out and that touches me.”

S10 is part of a new generation Dutch singers who don't write songs, but make art. Froukje and Meau are two other huge young talents who make the Dutch-speaking people slowly love their language in songs again. Dutch music is more than Schlager music now, it can be art like this too. I really hope she will finish in the top 5, to show Europe (and also the Dutch & Belgian people) that Dutch can be a beautiful language in music too.

In 2018 Cyprus was 28 with bookmakers before the rehearsels. Also, bookmakers are not always right.
The odds are so odd sometimes. And luckily, they are often not right. Let's see how things change after the first live performances. I'm sure Stien will blow us away. I think she might end up in the top 5, or at least the top 10.

People don't need to understand the lyrics. Its important that they are enjoying it and "responding" to it. Look at ukraine 2021! im so happy with this dutch entry, they need to make the staging very intense.
The “ooeehh, aaaahh” in the chorus isn’t Dutch, it’s “just” sounds, but that’s actually very common in Dutch folk music (at least that’s what I associate it with as a Dutch person). You also heard Sieneke doing it, “shala-lie, shala-la”, and Lenny Kuhr as well, “lai-la la lai, la la lai-lai-lai, lai-lai-lai”, even “ding-a-dong” to some extent
I love this song, my Dutch isn't great but I can pick up a few words, but even then you don't have understand it to Feel it. It's going to do well, I'm calling it early (un-biased opinion even though I'm half Dutch). Awesome Song 🇳🇱🇦🇺
As I am Dutch I of course understand the lyrics, but I'm very happy that a lot of people who don't speak Dutch understand the message of this song too. And I totally agree that it is impossible to not feel anything when listening to this song. It really hits you hard.
