Yes. Programming is a must in this day and age for any of the hard sciences. I find this unfortunate since I am not fond of it though I love physics. No need to be some super hacker at it, but every good scientist knows how to do data analysis and simulations.
Probably the most important one is to have really solid background in linear algebra and discrete mathematics. As soon as you know those two subjects, you can go and deeper your knowledge. Being able to do proofs and good skills of mathematical critical thinking is really critical in any field, you will improve them by doing practice, practice, practice, ..

I am currently pursuing integrated btech+mtech(completed my 2 nd year) in it department from iiit gwalior.i am interested in maths and i am passionate of pursuing phd in computer science which contains more maths to do.can u tell me the process and mainly the topics for this

@@MathForLife I proved that there are only 4 normed division algebras: the reals, complex, quaternions and octonions. And then did some basic number theory in the quaternions and proved some results about non trivial projective and stably-free modules which I'm sure would go over your head 😂 (they went over my head too don't worry)
