I think if you go to live in a new country permanently, it's usually because it is better in some or many ways from where you came from. It should be natural for you to adopt many of the customs and culture of your new home. It doesn't mean you throw out everything from your old way of life, but you incorporate it into your new way of life. What made america great and things work well for many decades, is that people came for a better life and were very happy to adopt new ways and traditions into their life because they admired the opportunities and freedoms in their adopted homeland and wanted to become "American" as soon as possible. If you want to come to a new place and bring all the traditions that made your old homeland a disaster, all you will do is possibly corrupt and wreck your new home, and you will never fit in.

If Dr K does go to Taiwan, I would recommend some kind of inconspicuous personal security detail. Plain clothes bodyguards or something.
