Yeah, RTD said that his bosses are telling him what to write, but his bosses are Jane Tranter & Julie Gardner and they're technically renting the I.P for from the BBC.
And after Ghostbusters (2016) Answer the Call, I don't think Sony nor Natasha Hale's ordering RTD to write this cr*p.

A story better on the written page than what ended up on screen. It’s very unfortunate that the weakest link of the production are the Dr and the companion. Millie is one note. Ncuti is too emotional and has been told to play it that way. In no way did it build up the tension. Both are not playing it seriously enough. Millie starts making jokes as does the Dr. Then he explains if he blows up he will take half of the planet with him. How? Is the Dr no longer a mortal being but now some type of Superhero. Why wasn’t Millie killed? Why did it snow? Therefore, she’s no ordinary mortal either. The ending is sugary. The little girl doesn’t grieve for her father. The female soldier gets over the death of her supposedly love with ease. The Dr is very chirpy at the end. Onto the next adventure Ruby. He was crying throughout the episode. Supposedly, contemplating death but having too much to think about it but he should have been more traumatised at the end. Similar to Tennant after Midnight but, no, Ncuti is all smiles. As if the last 45 minutes had never happened. I agree with The Telegraph review. It was a dud. Better than the first 2 but still a dud!

John Vater would have made a better doctor than Ncuti.

*Star Trek TNG: The Arsenal of Freedom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* Haven't seen it yet, thought it might be a low-budget filler, since they'd probably just stand still the entire time, should mean good, snappy dialogue + the action finds them. ... But ... sorry, but - judging by this watch-along info ... is Moffat kinda paying lip service to the lesbians?! How very cheeky of the Moff! XD Yeah, the man's not woke at all, sooo gonna watch this one, just for the fun of it! Also, love the ''anti-capitalism'' and the immediate commercials bits, how wonderfully they merged together, that cracked me up! OK, will watch - and, probably, enjoy! Think it will suffer low ratings because of the previous unhinged episodes, though ... don't think it will get any better anytime soon.

Judged on its own merit, bereft of all the needless ill will generated by some associated with the current show, I thought this episode was brilliant.
The world that Moffat created, its inhabitants, the tension therein, the rapid establishment of a sense of high stakes, all contrived to produce the most watchable Doctor Who since series ten. I'm no expert on direction, editing or visual effects, yet all these criteria conspired to command my attention uncompromisingly, and Gatwa's slight foray into silliness towards the end was not enough to spoil my enjoyment.
This episode will be the only one I watch of the current series, the rest being written by a malevolent sociopath whose best science fiction-writing days are well behind him, but I'll treasure and revisit, probably seeing more on each occasion, redolent of a time when an episode of Doctor Who was the gift that kept on giving.
The break from the show has done Moffat the power of good and I wish more than anything that he had been given the task of repairing things; one or two more series, ending on a relative high, before the show is given the long rest that it still badly needs.
Haven't listened to your assessment yet, Noel, but many thanks, as always, for giving us your precious time in this way.
    All the best for now.
    Paul

This episode was probably the most offensive in terms of its political punditry, which the Redditors and GBers will lap up like fresh milk. I think it's so f*cking pathetic that literally every one of these episodes revolves around a woke talking point. Space Babies was abortion and immigration (I guess RTD didn't realise that the he implicitly condemned Poppy and co. to death), Devil's Chord had the pronoun bullshit, and this one was a blatant attack on religious people and cApItAlIsM.
I would've loved to see the 13th Doctor call Yaz's religion a load of propagandistic bullshit to her face btw.
Looks like next week's is gonna take on nationalist populism. Can't wait to fall asleep to that.

I think Moffat still got it to an extent. There were some obvious weaknesses of this episode mainly the doctor and ruby, but if Moffat was given the reign again I'm sure he would produce much better episodes than what we've gotten with this season so far.

First an abortion alegory, then they promote drag queens and now they bash both capitalism and christianity in the same episode... was this season made SPECIFICALLY to offend me?

It’s a mid season filler. It’s ok but it’s not good, never mind great. 3 down. The weakest start of any season since Season 24.

The story was not that special. Similar stuff he’s done before as the story dressed up in another setting. Not impressed.
