Step inside the pitch meeting that led to Inception!
Back in 2010, with a couple of massive Batman movies under his belt, Christopher Nolan decided to take a break from superheroes before The Dark Knight Rises to blow everyone’s mind with the super popular movie Inception starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
With dreams within dreams within dreams within dreams, Inception definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why aren’t these dreams dream-like? Why doesn’t Michael Caine bring Cobb’s kids to visit sometimes? How did Mal frame Cobb for her death from a totally different building? What does that spinning top totem ending mean? Is it all a dream? Is THIS a dream?! What is going on?!!

Only problem I have with that is that the "Bwaaaam" track for the trailer was actually composed by Zack Hemsey. Not our great and godly Hans.

The original trailer from 10 years ago with the "Bwaaaam" sound effect was created by Hans Zimmer.
The newer trailer used Zack Hemsey's version.
If you compare them, they are different.
The "bwaaaaaan" sound is not random actually, it's actually the song they are listening while sleeping and the "bwaaaahh" is actually a slowed down effect, it acted as there kick. So there needed to be a loud sound.
That's how influential it was.

Love how usually in this series, when the guy on the right asks the guy on the left how does something work, he usually says it's unclear or to get aaaall the way off his back, but this time around he was absolutely READY to explain everything to him down to the nitty gritty

The "Takes the deepest breath possible" should last for the rest of the video, the entire thing just cutting back and forth between the two Ryan's, screenwriter continuously inhaling, producer reacting... for like, minutes and minutes.....
The plot is pretty much already released, it’s an adaptation of Maxwell’s demon using time instead of heat.
If they don't do this, I'll be severely disappointed lol

I've seen hundreds of Pitch Meetings and I think this is probably my absolute favorite.
Also: "Sorry, don't wanna interrupt, but little things that only you're allowed to touch are tight okay keep going."
This pitch meeting made me realize how much I really don't remember & really never understood about Inception to begin with.
Inception is not as smart as it seems. It's just a facade.
Nolan likes to pretend that complexity is the same as intelligence. I think Tenet proved that wrong. Still, Inception is pretty great. @@sidsrivastava6987

"Every dream is going to look like a genetic James Bond level", this guy definitely played Agent GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Agent Under Fire, Nightfire, Everything Or Nothing, which were all clearly influential on this movie's scenography.
As far as the totem at the end goes that was actually Mal's totem and even if the top did fall he could still be inside his own dream, what it means at the end is that no matter where Cobb is he has chosen to accept it as his reality and he no longer cares if he's in a dream or not.

True, the van flipping would count as a kick but Nolan covered his bases with that particular pickle by having the characters be placed under using a powerful sedative and regular kicks wouldn’t work.

@Daniel DP It's possible that Pitch Meeting is a Screen Rant "property" so he can't use it for his own channel, kind of like how ex-BuzzFeed employees can't make content with the same name after their leave (unless they buy it like The Try Guys did) or how Grace Helbig has to start a whole new channel and brand after she left a multi-channel network. Also, it seems that Ryan still works for/is part of Screen Rant.

Also there is the fact that his normal content is completely unrelated to movies and generally the algorithm prefers if channels stick to specific types of content so it might even be better to keep his movie related jokes on a movie related channel and his more generic free form jokes on a comedy channel. Or maybe it's for some completely different reason.

I’ve watched this pitch meeting over 100 times in my sleep and I still don’t know what the movie is about.
"Maybe it's all a dream, who knows" = theme of the movie.

Inception is one of my favourite films but this is 100% true!
It really isn't. Apart from the Ariadne-Cobb walk through Paris which made sense to happen at the beginning of the movie, then there are maybe 10 mins of dialogue of explaining stuff.

The van flipping does count as a kick. However, the kicks need to be synchronized at every level of the dream to work properly, and that kick wasn't synchronized with the others, so it didn't wake them up.
They were also sedated so they needed something stronger to act like the real kick.

I think this is one of the longest pitch meetings (ive been watching ALOT of them i just discovered them)
The fact that this one is so long says alot about inception
In regards to the whole “why don’t they imagine go bullet proof vests or armored cars?”
That actually gets addressed.
Cobb gets in Arthur’s face and reprimands him for not doing enough research, claiming “we are NOT prepared for this level of violence!”
In the second level, the hotel, they still needed to maintain a certain level of “incognito” despite running the “Mr. Charles” play.
But when they get to the third level, the mountainside hospital, they are more kitted out for a fight. Eames with an auto rifle, Cobb with a high powered precision rifle, grenades, and I’m sure some layer of protection under their snow coats.
But to that effect, the fact that Eames is a “forager” tells me it’s easier for him to imagine stuff in the dream than it is for others.

My main issue with the dream layers is that time stretches as you go deeper into dreams instead of the other way around. I mean this is the equivalent of a virtual machine running inside a virtual machine and perform 10 times better than the host.
We're not talking about computers. We're talking about dreams.
I’ve watched inception like 3 times and screen rant has finally made me understand it.
I’m a film music composer and in our world the “Braaaaaams” are a real topic of conversation and eye rolls!! Nice catch there right off the bat!! 👍😂
I've heard an interview with Zimmer where he said he's rather baffled that everyone has made that horn sound so ubiquitous.

I think this is maybe one reason why he chose Dune over tenet, because he loved making creative unconvential soundtrack again like for bladerunner.

This guy is the alpha to omega. Incredible job well done each and every time.
This movie was truly a classic of our time...few movies are as entertaining, thrilling and well conceptualized. The cinematography is top notch and the concept is well presented and I loved the chance to suspend my disbelief to enjoy it.
