I was engaged to a mexican (whose mother, who is also half black, is one of the kindest, most caring people I ever met) and a surprising amount of my latin-american friends are artists of some kind (musicians, painters, film makers, one is even an architect and my ex was a talented writer who also had a wonderful voice), so I know what you're talking about.
