IT's all happening
@@TheCompanyMan thank you for auditing
It infuriates me how dedicated you were to not saying “beat off”. Excellent work prof. AVAA
💀💀🤣
21:28 - 21:41 the professor felt similarly during euphoria part c
Hey, excuse me, I am new to the channel and English is not my first language, what does AVAA mean? I've seen it used in a couple of comments and I don't even know where to begin deciphering this one.
@@mariaalicedesouza3546 it’s a thing the professor uses. If you comment AVAA he guarantees he’ll give that comment a heart. It stands for “awesome video as always” or “awful video as always” if you didn’t like it.
@@evanauger6574 Thank you for the answer! 🙏
get that bag, prof
3:05 "We have to have some kind of beat... Competition."
I'm so glad you didn't call it a beat-off.
-1 for not saying "Beat Battle" and getting some alliteration in there. AVAA
I’m upset he didn’t say beat off😂
⏸️
"I'm tired of having the lyric off, the climb off, the beef off in general, and let's study the beats. and have a beat.... competition" I died
No bbl drizzy?
Obviously S!
It's not on the tier list because obviously- it's SSS+ tier
BBL Drizzy is the most effective earworm I've heard in years and it still makes me laugh. To this day 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Finally someone is man enough to host a Kendrick drake beat off competition
Beat off?
😂
This comment is hilarious, no diddy.
"in the middle of this... crime-off... we're having a white super producer battle" 🤣🤣🤣
6:16 in LA is the most underrated song of the whole debacle. It got so forgotten in the midst of Euphoria and Family Matters (understandably so) that most people don't even think about it. Such a cool vibe to it, almost like a Kid Cudi song
Late Registration vibes, its honestly the best pure lyrical performance of the battle.
i thought kendrick was parodying drakes old stuff with rick ross that he actually liked instead of drake leaning into the violent drill stuff thats popular now
I like how Meet the Grahams and Not like us compliment each other as Not like us is a pallette cleanser
Let's be honest, Drake's beats are as soulless as his rhymes. There's no comparison between his and Kendrick's music.
I agree sir, they Pacifying asf
Facts. There are a few good ones mixed in but mostly just slop.
Style over substance. Nothing inherently wrong with that as long as it stays in its lane.
nah man that third beat on family matters had a ton of soul
Yesss
I genuinely think 6:16 in LA could have been one of kendricks best songs ever if it wasnt about drake. The way hes flowing in the first part is just sensational
I didn’t like it at first, but it might be my favorite track of the whole beef now. It’s such a pleasing song, Kendrick is an excellent rapper
True but I can still appreciate it without the Drake context. I also think Kendrick is dissing Drake just through showing how versatile he is with each track. Drake could never dream of making something like 6:16 in LA.
I really enjoy 6:16. The lyrics, the cadence and that Al green sample just floods me with memories
I listen to it more than anything else now. Last week I was all about Not Like Us
Meet the grahams got to be s tier. Just for those initial 12 seconds alone. That 'dear adonis' line together w the descending piano is carved in space time forever. It was the perfect beat for that message.
The Like That beat is insanely good, didn't realise it had so much history haha. I Love Metro's version of it, so dark and villainous; a perfect song to start the feud.
AVAA !!! literally any adblocker will do you well to get rid of ads! 🙏
Hi Prof Skye, its a little bit early but i was wondering if you have plans to make a video dissecting the process of how you dissect music. The more I watch of your channel the more I find myself wondering if you'll make a video about "this song, or that track, or that album over there" and I realized its not logical to think that you can or plan to do every song under the sun. Instead of getting a fish I'd like to learn to fish sort of thing. This video hasn't released yet but I'm gonna jump the gun a little, AVAA.
I’ll think about how I would do that, interesting idea
@@professorskye I would also love this video idea!
@@professorskyeThe album that got me on this train of thought was "XX" by "Rage Against the Machine". If this band/album is not hip-hop they are certainly hip-hop adjacent and it would make my day to see a video of you reviewing the album, and even if you never got the chance to do so I would still love the opportunity to use the techniques that you use for other works to gain my own insights. I look forward / hope to be hearing from you.
the ads made me laugh. only option would be an adblocker AVAA
I'm personally questioning Meet the Grahams not being in the top tier. 🤔 I viscerally remember the first (of two total) listens to that song, and I felt uncomfortable. It felt like I sat down at a table and watched someone get killed right in front of me. It was chilling. That I've listened to that song twice, and it's been more than a week since the second time, I can still hear it in my head immediately. It's haunting. It's effective. It's powerful.
I need to go listen to Not Like Us because Meet the Grahams is already stuck in my head as I type this out.
I agree with your assessement, although I would have maybe put part6 in B tier.
One thing I remember you saying previously that stuck with me is about the colonizer remark, and how those artists Drake pulled from did receive benefits.
If we look at history, when colonizing a lot of the world, there were people of those countries/territories that did make money. Not all slaves are captured, some people sold their countrymen. Other leaders sold/sell their resources. In the end, the colonizers would strip the land of its people, resources, and integrity, while sometimes giving wealth to the leaders who let it happen.
Sounds exactly like what Kendrick was talking about.
It's quite poetic to compare the beats of each and see how they reflect the artist's own relationship with hip hop (or lack thereof)
18:42 I lost it at "six-fingered west coast beat" 😂
I'm gonna steal that to refer to other AI bullshit
The Alchemist beat was BY FAR the best beat all around. It set the stage for a real conversation...gave you this ick feeling that was intended...built on the concept of STAN by eminem...and stay interesting for 6+ minutes while Kendrick played psychological warfare with Aubrey and his entire family. (As far as difficulty and execution...this is the perfect record) That was The S tier beat because it was a MOVIE. Out side of that...I would make slight adjustments but Im not mad at any of the placements. Taylor Made beat was actually good...but the production quality was dismal in terms of Drakes ability to make it work. Drake made nothing but faux pas throughout his production choices. 6:16 was an A level beat too....IF this hadn't been a dis battle...that would be the most indicative of what I would like to hear from his album.
its amazing how skeletal/stripped back kendricks beats are too, not like us is like 4 seconds of sample total looped with some drums and meet the grahams is the same progression/chord stabs for 6 minutes lol. so catchy fr
You should post these on Spotify too, would love to listen to them when I'm outside
he basically do a short podcast already. makes sense
Fr!
💯x💯x💯
Love a good ol fashioned beat off
Yooooo- I listened to euphoria for like the 16th time yesterday and noticed that held note!!! It truly is the gift that keeps on giving!!
Get an ad-block extension for your web browser. Not furious btw. Much love from South Africa
I love imagining you just having this whole conversation with yourself only to realize the mic isn’t on
my recommended adblocking browser extension would be ublock origin
your videos are extremely interesting and i love your informative analyses. thank you for sharing your work with the world, and i’m glad your work is getting some attention post-beef :)
Should’ve included Rick Ross’s champagne moments (Drake Diss). Genuinely my favorite beat out of this beef. Shit sounds super luxurious.
Just made me think of the Tony Statovci joke about Rick rosss
AVAA I love that someone like you exists to make videos like you make.
Was looking for exactly this but you sir made this incredibly informative and an enjoyable listen. Great work and thanks. Agree with you on the top pick. Most memorable imo.

0:39 Very well played
😂😂
crime off, beef off... lets have a beat... competition. Prof had me on that one
Discovered you through the beef a few days ago and just now have seen the podcast with Justin Hunte, it was a really interesting conversation. Keep up the great work
Great video as always! I love watching your videos because it proves I still got some attention span haha. Much love from Spain!
This is light work professor! Great job. The charts have spoken and that Mustard Beat is THE BEST!
Dope video, I love this angle on the beef
I support you making as much money off this as you can
I saw you're making a tier list, so I'm gonna watch 🧐
Your assessment reflected what I choose to play on repeat. Interesting!
AVAA Skye! I think all the rankings are sound but i would have put 6:16 in LA a little bit higher. It has an intangible groove imo
The “Like That” beat is sampling one of the original gangsta rap songs by Rodney O and J Cooley “everlasting Bass”
Awesome review
Thank you for this Analytical Beat Review...... so many "BEATS" still swimmin' in my head. AVAA on the positive tip!!!
Fantastic break down of the beat off. People are having in-depth discussions of the rap off, the rumor off, the lyric off, the perfomance off, but not much has been said about the active beat off happening in front of all of us. The beat off deserves to be discussed too, so thank you
AVAA, new mach hommy out prof, its damn good, rlly good
Professor Skye, you are so funny. I thoroughly enjoy your humor.
pretty much agree with most of this.
btw, in another video you mentioned the brilliance of the tv show atlanta, would love to hear you speak on that even though it seems like you exclusively do videos on music
avaa
I know you said I an earlier video that you wouldn’t dive this deep into all this. Let me say I am glad you are. Still gotta finish your other video about black culture
AVAA Prof!!! i’m pretty new to the channel thanks to the beef off i’m here now. i’m not sure if you have but if you haven’t i’d recommend checking out Saba (Care for Me to be specific) really great storytelling one of the best albums of the 2010s
"Let's have a beat off" missed opportunity😅 AVAA
Prof. try using Obs or crop the screen that you share via zoom/teams or what did you use to record😅 keep up the good work💪🏽 AVAA
I’m a hip hop producer and I assumed Sounwave did the sample chops and drums on 6:16 and Antonoff did the synths cause I’ve never heard him chop samples, but who knows?
Fan of your reviews. AAVA
The amount of people who've complimented you on focusing on the lyrics and themes and philosophy of the song, and then you're here in this video talking about just the beats. We love to see the range.
You can remove website ads like the ones in the videos either through an ad-blocker or through right clicking on the ad, using the web page inspect tool, and deleting the lines of code that relate to the ad- you'll be able to hover over the code to see what it affects
Yoo, Prof is back!!
AVAA nice setup
Hey, professor! First of all, just wanna say your videos are really good... The lack of production (which I don't mean in a bad way, and I've seen you a few times that is on porpoise) creates this "less formal more intimate" atmosphere to the content you bring, and the content is as rich as possible. Not because you say everything there is to be said about an artistic creation, but because you do your best to express to expose every feeling and emotion from it, and how those connect to other artistic works... I'm from Brazil here, and I just found your channel because of the True Artist Kenny vs True Businessman Drake, and I really liked the Lemon Twigs new album review... And there's nothing wrong with juggling between the 2 types of content... The reviews are what you truly seem to like doing and I think it does connect more to your audience, but the other will reach more people, that wouldn't even know about you and your work if it wasn't for this "mainstream content" (like me)... I also would like to thank for the great recommendation of Justin Hunte content (also wouldn't get to know if it wasn't for the "mainstream videos")...
Second of all: any adblocker will fix the add problem, but I recommend ublock origin, which is a opensource adblocker that also has settings if you just want to block some ads, and others not. It's good, cause sometimes we are consuming content from creators we like, so it's fair that they earn the money from those ads 😊.
Anyways... Hope this helps and that you keep making more of both content 😉
_like me_ I meant someone that wouldn't know about your work otherwise, not that I am mainstream content 😅😅
0:40 you TEASE!
Yo Prof Skyles, LAA catching strays! You going in.
AVAA!
Nice to see that my bias is confirmed 😂 Kidding aside, it's quite interesting that there are still stans out there saying that Drake has better sounding beats but when I listen to it, it's just soulless and hollow, but I can't pinpoint why. I realized that it was because of his idea of self that is trying to fit in where it shouldn't be. Looking back, it might be the reason why I like Drake songs that are not tough sounding but just nice melodies and soothing because that might be where he really fits.
With regards to Kendrick, he's a person who understands himself down to his roots that is why there is no doubt in me why I hear his soul in his music. Throughout the beef, I heard different styles of voice, flows, and rhymes from Kendrick but there is still that essence of "him" in it, which might be why everything sounds well connected.
This video brought upon another layer of this competition, which is the music. People often forget yet it is one of the most if not most important part of the competition because both are musicians. Seeing this made me realize more things and this video confirmed my bias and provided a reason behind it because I can't describe it before.
AVAA. It's crazy to think about the fact that The Alchemist is basically an underground producer. He's been around for decades, released mutiple projects, produced for the biggest rappers and he even is the official DJ for Eminem... yet a lot of peoples don't know him.
He's awesome. I've caught a couple of his interviews. Such an interesting dude.
I’d try to right click the ad and press inspect and delete the code there
AAVA
The one comment I’ve been waiting for someone to point out is in the beats, because in Euphoria, during the “signed to a-“ part, there’s a HUMBLE motif in the backing piano that hits so hard in context of the bar, basically telling Drake to be humble because he used to be signed to a lot of guys who were signed to other guys etc.
Thank you for telling us about your Greek yoghurt opinions Prof.
One takeaway from this video is that prof needs an adblocker.
Welcome To The Terrordome!!! Wow! That's a flashback. "Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos."
Love the video and wish you wouldn't use the fuzzy background filter. Reminds me distractingly of a Zoom call.
Prof. Skye!! Just do ad-blocker please!!
I ALSO couldn't think of the beat...thats crazy haha
You should rank Alchemist beats next. I’m still waiting on the Alchemist and Schoolboy Q album, their styles match perfectly
"A six-fingered west coast beat" makes me laugh. 😄 AVAA
So specific in its disrespect. Hilarious.
“Drake Stans think I’m biased” is SO crazy
You should open a window in paint and fill it with a black colour. Then minimize the window until it is the shape of the ad. Then place it over the ad as you fill up the tier list.
The B verse beat in family matters is hard af to me personally Professor
Once he said also their vocals I knew how this was gonna play out.
professor, i humbly suggest that you should check out Drive-By Lullabies by Quinn, or her self titled album! i think you’ll dig them. Drive-By Lullabies is my favorite album of all time and id love to see your interpretation of it! It isn’t new by any means but i hope you’ll at least give it a listen even without a review ^-^
should've included the BBL drizzly metro beat. if Ye is on this list and he wasn't even called out. but metro was directly involved from start and called on. and it's s tier
AVAA
"I make music that electrify, you make music that pacify"
When listening to Drake, The lyrics don't get you pondering. When Dot is on the track, he has you cracking the DaVinci code.
in answer to your query, the heart part 6 sounds like twin peaks
I really hope Alc gets more attention from Meet the Grahams. My favourite producer, the breadth of his sample catalog is crazy.
No First Person Shooter? That’s the initial firing shot from Cole and Drake right? What do you give that beat? Great video!! Love that beat from Family Matters part 3, so regal yet grim.
Wasnt a firing shot
@@theelectricant98 hmm fair enough, I think after FPS it was pretty clear Kendrick would have something to say, but just considering how far away it is time for wise it could be excluded
Kendrick does directly reference it in his like that verse tho
Thought about FPS, but ultimately don’t consider it part of the battle. It’s the assasination of Arch Duke Ferdinand, not Verdun
@@professorskye fair play
the angels didn’t need to catch a stray like tht 😭
So we're talking about the "beat off" lol
As you described all the "offs" you're tired of talking about, I'm glad you didn't describe this as a beat--- lol AVAA
This gotta be be best beat off I've ever witnessed.
Let’s have a beat off!
"six-finger West Coast beat" had me hollering! 😂
I might be in the minority, but I do remember every single beat in this beef, with the exception of the first in 7 Minute Drill, Champagne Moments, which I only listened to once, and Like That Remix, which I refused to listen to.
I still generally agree with your ratings, though.
Drake’s 2nd beat on “Family Matters” is ripped right from his song “Summer 16” .. for me that takes points away from it
On the whole I agree with this list. I'd probably put Meet the Grahams at the bottom of S instead of the top of A, but that's minor. I was tempted to argue for the second beat of Family Matters to go higher but then I realized I couldn't call it to mind like I can the As and Ses, so I guess that's fair. XD
25 minutes in and finally he says beef-off.
Glad you included j cole to make this a 3 way beat off
I think the most impressive song is euphoria because of it's immense depth. The most underrated part of the whole song is the bell 🔔. It's presence is both muted and brash at the same time. It's the biggest elephant in the room and yet it can either go unnoticed or striking depending on if you decide to pay attention to it.
6 fingered jabs, that's poetry
I was looking for this exact comment after he said it
glad you said beat competition... because the way your sentence was structured... 😅
Good Morning from Germany dear Prof. Skype 🙋🏻♀️
I have a Bonus question...
Where would BBL Drizzy rank in all of this? 🙃
let’s have a beat… competition
Meet the grahams: The funeral
Not like us: The repast 😂
You're favorite part of Drake was the C-section, i think my favorite part was about 9 months before that. 🤔
Listen to the sizzle on that p. drizzle, no diddy.
Not to paint a picture that is all too real, but the sound of drake's beat on the heart part 6 reminds me of the end of a war movie or something where the battle ends in the side being followed losing with many casualties, it evokes the feeling of seeing "comrades falling in battle" or a motif similar to that. Thats just my opinion. It does make sense in the context.
