I'm from a poor town in rural Mississippi. You are absolutely correct. In those small towns people know all their neighbors and their kids teachers and they really are a community. They also LIVE. They don't work themselves into the ground to buy big homes and cars where they all carry hefty payments for 30 years or more. They may not make much but their jobs like them and these folk are comfortable and there is no fighting traffic, the air is cleaner and the lifestyle is far more laid back. With city living and higher incomes comes more stress. Also these folk in these small towns tend to live longer. They eat healthier. From gardens and hunting etc
My great grand mother lived in Dawson for many many years. Seeing this has brought back childhood memories of when I visited her. We always felt safe there as children. It's sad to see what it's become today. Thanks for the video :)
My home town. Moved away in 88. It's sad it looks that bad now. I lived in one of the houses you passed by when I was a kid. I remember it looking different than what it looks like now 😭
I grew up in Dawson, Georgia, down in Porter's Alley in the 1960s. We had no indoor plumbing, two bedrooms, and a kitchen with a wood burning stove. If you lived in the projects across highway 82 with indoor plumping, you were living well. 😊
My hometown. I grew up on College Street near our old high school that sadly burned down in 2011. I moved away in 2008 and have been visiting more often with family that still remains. So many memories walking to school, our library, Brumby's grocery, Harvey's Supermarket, dollar stores, and downtown Dawson for the post office, hair store, Dawson Pharmacy, and just to get out of the house. I remember when we had a Belk's store. When times were simpler. So much history here that we didn't hear about until later and in nearby Albany too. Soul legend Otis Redding was born here too. Recently the city has begun to bring more businesses and development to the area. I pray that more comes to the area. And yes if you want true southern hospitality and great soul food, come down to Dawson, Albany, or any city in the 229 area code.
Good evening how are you all doing today I've been to Dawson, Georgia before and I'm from Moultrie, Georgia and i really like visiting Dawson there's really a lot of nice people there and there still some good places to live in Dawson May everybody have a beautiful bless rest of your day be careful out there ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Visit Cairo,Ga.Bainbridge, Ga. Camilla ,GA .Quittman,Ga. Oclocknee,Ga. Meigs,Ga . Pelham,Ga .Thomasville, Ga. These are some of the last towns in south Ga. These are Florida, Georgia Boarder towns. Dawson is the South but these are the last towns of Ga then you hit the sunshine state Fla.
It's disgusting & heart breaking to watch these places with so much charm just collapses. Nafta crippled and gutted rural America and continues to this day. Globalism is a plague.
Nicknamed the "King of Soul", Redding's style of singing gained inspiration from the gospel music that preceded the genre. His singing style influenced many other soul artists of the 1960s.
Looks like they're not living so great there, why do they continue to vote Republican; what does the state spend its money on? Need to invest in these towns.
There are very poor pockets all over America . The good thing about Georgia is probably you won't freeze to death if it happens to be a rare freezing winter here . Try doing one of these in another poor community in America .
This is a Democratic led town. Industry left many years ago. The people are sweet. Children grow up and leave for better opportunities. Many of the rundown homes are from landlords or families that will not sell and allow it to decay.
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS I agree. There's a huge house that is now in decay. Furniture still in place. Pictures still on the walls. Hurricane Michael came through and damaged the roof. Heirs do not care. They could have donated it as a senior center or community center.
I meant to say my Grandmother would have two beds in one bedroom. There was a bed on each side of the bedroom. That's something that you just don't see today. I can only fit one bed into each one of my bedrooms.

You really did an unfair portrayal of My hometown Much nicer homes than you showed. The accent comes from geechee east Georgia. The people are happy. Didn't show shopping hotels restaurants or the old historic 3 story homes homes.

South Ga people are good people
The worst poverty is lack of kindness and generosity.
That is so true

Must be so sad 😞 for the neighbours to see the homes on their street get boarded up
You can tell so many of the homes were beautiful and well made
Good video I pray for restoration in Dawson GA nice area.
Amen.
although too much restoration raises property taxes
Sweet town , I pray for restoration for them
would take massive investments
South Georgia is the most rural part of Georgia.
And poorest as well.

Yes, horrible, horrible, place to be. STAY AWAY as if your life depends on it. For that matter, stay out of all of "dirty" poor Georgia.
Greetings from California were on the beach with sea lions under palm trees
Belle Glade in South Florida they grow tons and tons and tons and tons of sugarcane I grew up off of sugarcane mangoes and guavas down here in Florida
Lots of Jamaican farmworkers went there to cut sugar cane in the 1980's....🇯🇲
We are living in a different world. Real estate, technology and finance runs the world now.

It's disgusting & heart breaking to watch these places with so much charm just collapses. Nafta crippled and gutted rural America and continues to this day. Globalism is a plague.
Stop blaming others for your own failures. I dont see small towns in California falling to crap
The real Georgia.
They' re back
I was born in a small town on the reservation in Carolina I miss it I miss the wind on my face as we ran in the yards we help each other every day
Def a southern GA accent that is discernible if you're familiar with the south as you know...
yup!
"I love urban decay." Me too!
You should go 20 miles over to Cuthbert and Andrew College. Lots of history.
Cuthbert smells like a pig farm
Sugar came is absolutely delicious. My grandfather would grow it in Mississippi.
Home of Otis Redding!
Nicknamed the "King of Soul", Redding's style of singing gained inspiration from the gospel music that preceded the genre. His singing style influenced many other soul artists of the 1960s.
Macon, Ga Is The Home Of Otis Redding.
Otis was born in Dawson GA.

Its politics in general and hate that destroyed these towns

@@awkwardquilterGA I would love to have an online pal from a small town like this!
The bedrooms in those homes are so big. I remember my grandmother would have two beds on each side of the room. That's how big the bedrooms were.

I don’t care i am a youtuber not someone in the dawson historical society
Roll up your car windows!! To much noise with them down
...............you are invading their privacy............so no wonder they're not pleased.
We are living in 2022.. all new cars are REQUIRED by law to have cameras.
Wasn’t no tornado they knocked it down
The Southern small towns life is good its not nearly bad as what you see.
