I will never get tired of watching Miller's beam routine here. She just nailed it. Never lost her balance one time, not even close. Literally the only deductions I see in the entire routine are the small shuffle of the foot and a little bit of leg separation on the dismount. That's it. I'd have to give a 9.90
Lilia is simply beautiful to watch - such a stunning gymnast. She 100% deserved the all-around (and floor), but Shannon's gold medal was completely apt - an almost flawless routine.
How the heck did she not break her neck?! Super painful to watch in slow motion. She is a fighter and completed the rest of her routine beautifully with an amazing landing. Such a shame. :(
I don’t know what Martha said to Dominique M when they walked back after Dominique’s scary routine when she landed on her head. But it sure is disturbing that Martha - disguised as comfort- slapped her on the back of the neck!!!
That’s the way a lot of coaches got away with offering “comfort” to their athlete so they could tear them down right away. It’s gross af but it’s *still happening* 🤦🏾♀️
Shannon said waiting for the judges to put up the green flag so she could start this routine was the most nerve-racking moment of her career. It's crazy to watch it here!
No matter how many times i watch this, i bawl like a baby when miller dismounts. Then Lilia comes up and i get scared for shannon. Lol. Kotchekova’s set was far superior in execution and difficulty compared to Gogean. Was never a fan of Gogean’s gymnastics back then. I appreciate her, just wasnt one of my faves
I've actually never seen a coach not [at least to try to] go for a hug after a fall like Moceanu's. Marta is disgusting. Moceanu was just a baby. What a jerk.
After the 94 goodwill games, I thought Dina was going to become the next big thing but I think having an off-year in 95 hurt her reputation, at least in the eyes of the judges. Because at times in 1996, they seemed rather unwilling to reward her with the exception of the 96 world beam finals.
She only has herself to blame for not building off her strong 94. Gymnastics is a reputation sport and even though she had a very good 94, it was not like she had such an amazing year she was already such a big star to drop off then come back easily.
@@milkybum6339 Part of her problem in 1995 though was that she seemed to have had a growth spurt. It also didn't help that Arkaev was having her do yurchenko style vaults which she was clearly not comfortable doing. Her front handspring and tsukahara vaults were much better.
This is something I do agree with you about. I'm really surprised Gogean even had a 10.0 start value (I'm guessing her dismount was counted as a flight series). Lilia had nice form but two backhandsprings into a Rueda is not very impressive for a flight series (although kudos to her for even having one I guess).
I suppose that had to be it (counting the dismount, ugh)....Romanians working the code yet again in order to do as little as possible. Yeah, if it had been a Rulfova or the late lamented ff-three layouts Pod's series would have been more competitive. Of course, Miller removed one of her three layouts in 96, making her flight series far more quotidian. Dawes still did her four-element series however. Kochetkova a very underrated and undervalued gymnast, perhaps partly because of her stone face..
@@annapavfan4680 I think she was robbed of the silver. Not the gold since she had obvious mistakes but I think her routine even with the mistakes was better than Lilia's which had smaller mistakes too, and lacked a quality tumbling pass and some other things, even if her style is beautiful.
@@annapavfan4680 @LB7, she deserved silver clearly. Even with the mistakes. Lilia's beam, I just don't like her, and her tumbling pass is weird. It is amazing to think she might have won had she done the punch front combo, which I don't agree with at all. Amazing gymnast, but I never liked her beam that much, I liked her bars where many felt she was overrated much better. And Gina' routine was just bad, it was like a junior routine.
Those little girls are amazingly tough (especially Moceanu who finishes her routine after falling heavily on her head!). Let's ask our sissy soccer players to be as tough as those girls!
Gawd. Don't even start with Gogean. Horrible. and so MANY undeserved medals! Kochetkova was totally screwed here--probably should have beat Pod for the silver....
Are we not going to talk about how the crowd literally shut up when Shannon Miller needed to concentrate while performing?!?! I noticed how quickly and silent the crowd was for Shannon Miller when she needed it. In other performances you could hear the crowd murmuring throughout passes and such. Maybe take a listen and hear me out lmao
Ikr, what an unfair result... I hated watching Gina Gogean on any event, she never smiled and always looked very exhausted all the time. Dina Kochetkova should've won the Bronze medal no doubt :/
Her head was known to fall off in practice and Bela would just screw it back in. Marta would push it down and wait for the snapping sound and then they would wind her up and pull the string and Domi would fart over and over for them like the perfect robot they always wanted.

Shannon is one of the best beam workers of all time :) Gorgeous routine.
Landed low with chest parallel to the floor.
Watching Shannon’s beam routine took me back in time I still have tears in my eyes !
my neck hurts just watching Moceanu fall on her head... glad she wasn't seriously hurt. She was my idol back then. love her.
Shannon and Lilia were both amazing!
Aside from that scary fall, Domi was freaking right on. Deilled that dismount AGAIN.

Shannon Miller is the best champion in the Olympics on the beam she Is a champion

I wish Dina had won bronze on beam in Atlanta. I believe she retired almost immediately after these games.
I've actually never seen a coach not [at least to try to] go for a hug after a fall like Moceanu's. Marta is disgusting. Moceanu was just a baby. What a jerk.
Wow, go Shannon!
@dmann3g I totally agree with you.....Dina deserved the bronze even with the wobble.
14 is just too young for the olympics
Shannon is the best on beam!!!! Wahou !!!!!❤❤
Good work on the beam Shannon Miller she this the great beam champion from terry Schnell

Notice how Marta slaps Dominique on the back of her neck and digs her claws into her too after that disastrous performance.
Poor Dina was robbed of her bronze here..it's like the judges were paid to give Gina medals throughout the quad..lets not even talk about 97...

In the 90's.
Dominique was used to the pain by that point Bela Karolyi would beat her and Marta would throw phone's at her head :(

She got so many medals she didn’t deserve in her career
Including that very undeserved gold at the 1997 Worlds on beam. Still makes me angry with the judges, and the COP at that time!
Dina, Dina, Dina!
@@lb7617 she's better to watch than that wrestler Biles
