BIG MAC was the greatest Baritone I ever heard. Beyond the great huge sound was an incredible sensitivity, musical integrity and depth of emotion that no one could equal, I saw him when he was 60 he was so beyond amazing. R.I.P BIG MAC you were larger than life and still amaze me.

@@susankeuter968 Your father was, in the opinion of this baritone from a much, much more recent generation, the greatest exponent of his fach in the second half of the century in the Italian tradition, And indeed the greatest baritone produced in America, which is no small thing in consideration of how many of them indeed came from your land. He is remembered, admired and honoured as not only a glorious voice, but an astute musician, a superb interpreter and overall a brilliant artist.

    Wrong voice for this repertoire.

Maybe a case of a wrong moment for the repertoire. He was probably the greatest baritone of the second part of the century but he had peaks and valleys. He was undoubtedly suited to sing the big belcanto roles because he sang the verdian roles in a way that is consistent with the belcanto tradition, this is especially true in his Carlo V. This is not the referential quality that I usually associate with the master, that so much is true, and particularly when compared to the likes of Battistini, Di Luca, Tagliabue and Silveri one can be left in slight disagreement with how things were done here, including some strange decisions by the conductor.

    God....what a WOBBLE :/

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

It's not a wobble, his vibrato function is normal, albeit slower than the optimal. Wobble is when the voice is not pulsating but rather "slaloming" imprecisely, covering usually at least a whole tone. It's a big difference. Netrebko has a wobble, it's obvious that her vibrato is warping erratically. Here you can clearly hear pulsations.
