    John you are an incredible builder! I love your work. I just purchased the beagle and am planning to use all of your videos as a guide to build from. I had purchased the USS Constitution from model shipways last year. Unfortunately never having built a wooden model ship, I didn’t get far. It came with blueprints, which I can’t make heads or tails from. I would be grateful if in the future you could build that one and make a set of vids for it, lol. My hope is to use the beagle as a first build then go tackle the larger model. The hull alone is over 24 inches long. It’s a massive model. Tell wolf I said hello!

      Hi Noster! The series will be completed during November. Take a look at my others series with the big ones like Santisima and Montanes, they are closer to the size of the Constitution. I do not know if and when i will build again the Constitution. I will give Wolf a bug hug for you :)

    Only mistake you made was listening to your friend wanted high gloss paint.
    Ugh! Did that myself a few times. Go matte

    I am retired now, but in former my carrier I was a director and technical engineer of video for live television for horse racing. I traveled across the USA to many racetracks, and I have had to climb many camera towers, to install cameras and other equipment. The tall ones, 50 or more feet, did scare me a bit, but at least they were steel ladders. The thought of climbing the rope ladders on a rolling ship, especially the transitions, where one would have to climb at a reverse angle, would scare the “crap” out of me!

      Think about climbing those ladders in a storm :)

      @@JohnsWoodenShips I don’t believe that most people nowadays, could tolerate or even survive the conditions aboard those ships. Bad food, bad water, disease, very dangerous working conditions, harsh treatment, and punishment, savage seas, and warfare! The ships were fantastic, but life aboard was horrible. But it might have been better than serving in the army! In the movie Mutiny on the Bounty, starring Marlon Brando, his character was asked by Caption Bligh, on why did he join the navy, and Mr. Christian replied, “because I thought the army would be rather dusty”!

      @@billa2967 Just think that you are not an officer, you work constantly in cruel conditions and you sleep in hammocks with 100 or more people. You do not get a good rest and you do that for months until you get to a port. And when there is storm the situation is the same but harder!

    In the 19th century it was common that the futtock shrouds were made with chain or wire. You can find it also in the book Anatomy of the ship of the beagle. But i can tell you that rope works a lot beter and faster! I did the chain futtocks, but it was a battle!

      The rope just makes it look better, my opinion of course :)

      @@JohnsWoodenShips that's totally fine of course! You make the decisions, you are the captain of your ship! Always do whatever you want or what you think is right, don't build what somebody else wants or what somebody else thinks is right, because it will eventually take the fun away! Just my humble opinion... Keep up the nice work, John!!

      I got this from the local store that sells threads and needles. It's main purpose is to pass the thread though a needles eye. This is the one with a quick Google search : www.kaufland.de/product/335840752/

    Tying the rope ladders was something I've been dreading. I've watched others do it and was not at all impressed.
    Watching you create the rope ladders from start to finish was a treat.

    Hi John, great progress and workmanship as usual, thanks for sharing. Not sure if I have asked you before or not but when you are varnishing, do you varnish your blocks as well?

    • @JohnsWoodenShips
      @JohnsWoodenShips  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Moike! No i do not varnish the block because i would have to open up the holes and also the ropes will give me a hard time to glue on them.
