Get em Canon! No-Ah I mean Get em Mr. Dillon. I watched The Killers one night and there playing a professional killer was William Conrad. Who would later in life play the fat man in Jake and the fat man and Frank Cannon a portly P.I. . Anyway he looked short and heavy then and maybe that was why he wasn’t picked to play Matt Dillon on tv like he did on the radio, he did have the voice for the part. Thanks for the great channel. I listen as often as I can. Steve
I remember Cannon, I don't remember Jake and the fat man what was it about was it good? I enjoy William Conrad on radio and tv, but I don't remember Jake and the fat man
Yep that happened to many of the actors they had the perfect voice but not the perfect look to go with it. William was so loved and so talented they made different shows for him on TV. Another perfect voice that didn't translate to TV was Johnny dollar. It happened so often in the change over to tv. Its where the joke "a face made for radio" comes from.
17:48 in The Dragnet radio show they made a similar reference to future technology by wishing there was a way to identify a suspect using blood beyond just blood type.
This Marshall is a lot more high strung than Matt on TV and the Doc is not a very nice guy either. I still like the stories but I am glad that the cast was revamped for TV.
What a well written episode. Am 25 years old, and can imagine when my Grandfather heard these for the first time in the early 50s.
This is the best find on TH-cam in a decade for me. I'm so serious. This is better than any show I'm watching currently.
I love listening to these when on a long drive especially in my 85 k10 Chevy and I'm 20
I really enjoy these, It's the greatest. Gunsmoke is legendary!!
Yes! I thought it was just me. I love these. And the tv show is amazing. ✌🏻🥰👍🏻 Yehaw
As a musician if you study the sound effects an orchestra of gunsmoke those guys were incredible
I absolutely agree they was the best, artist can learn a lot from these musicians.
I thought the same.
I think so, too; so well-done!
As always Gunsmoke rocks!
Kitty came on strong early in this episode.....much more overt than I've ever heard her before.😮
The Marshal yells like George Castansa's Dad....
But these are great !!!
Serenity now!!!
@@rockhead11 😂
I love Gunsmoke
Chester was played by Parley Baer who played the mayor in Andy Griffin and Doc was Howard McNear, Floyd the barber on same show.
William Conrad estimated that he played more than 7,500 roles during his radio career.

Outstanding!

If Marshal Dillion had been a first grade teacher the world would be a different place. 😅
I will take 30 minutes of Gunsmoke over 24 hours of today's garbage any day.
amen
YES
That's pretty good.
Directed by Norm MacDonald
I'm glad Conrad toned down the screaming over time in this series. Not very fun to hear when you're half asleep 😂

As the episodes progressed, Matt eased up and Doc became much more likable. Chester went from competent to pretty pathetic.
Me, too. Plus, the tv cast were outstanding; except for Chester who l found really annoying!
I like the radio cast much better. I guess it probably has a lot to do with the more gritty stories.
did they take out the commericals or did they have any during the show ?
Kitty's way hot for Matt
I don’t like her voice, though; she sounds really hard bitten!
These are the early versions. Kitty obviously is horney and doc is a greedy half witted coot.
Later they toned down their personalities
The radio version is probably closer to reality than the TV version was.
These are great. I love the personalities.
