This trip looks so lovely. I love all the little videos you were able to put in this video. Makes me want to do the same thing next time I’m solo traveling. All of your outfits were so cute on this trip! I’m happy you were happy 💕
I had black shorts on under the clips where I went up to Arthur's seat - I recommend shorts under dresses... made it so much better. Spinning and climbing no worries at all! :D. And thank you
I did a solo trip to Edinburgh about 7 years ago and loved it. Did several of the same things. It's a beautiful place. I didn't know at the time but I went just before fringe which was perfect because it wasn't so busy but the university halls were open as cheap accommodation for fringe so I stayed in a single room for super cheap. So pleased you enjoyed it as much as I did :)
I'm from Scotland, I never did fringe either (mainly cos of work) but I'd say it definitely counts cos you left your country to be in another one, baby steps! You'll be able to do anything now 😊
Been over five years since I've been on a plane. I'm not nervous of travelling, I'm nervous of being unwell whilst travelling. Flying with a migraine is something I never want to experience again
@@beckiejbrown I managed to go to Sweden myself last year, first time on a plane in 6 years and first time on one myself - I was quite scared but I did it! I can't even imagine what must have been like 😔 I'm glad you enjoyed Edinburgh tho! Funnily enough that's where I'm going tomorrow ❤️
@@beckiejbrownI've never been on a plane. I never even got round to getting my first passport. I really want to visit some really good friends in Toronto Canada but I fear a migraine attack. There are so many things to do with flying that can trigger a migraine attack, even air pressure!
Your first visit to Edinburgh is pretty similar to mine (though mine was in 2010). I didn't know I was autistic then and found the Fringe festival absolutely overwhelming. I've been several times since at quieter times and really love the city.
It has been decades since I have been to Scotland (or anywhere, for that matter. (Health reasons, darn it.) I keep saying I have to go again before I die! I have done most of my traveling alone. I once rented a car and spent three weeks traveling through Scotland and England. I stopped at almost every castle and Manor Home I passed! And I loved it! (Scotland & Lictenstein were my favorite countries. Now why couldn't those two be closer together!) Every time I went to Scotland, I headed for Greyfriar's Graveyard and that statue first thing. I saw the movie so long ago only once and the whole thing is imprinted on my soul. I am a dog person through and through. The image of Bobby going to sleep on his master's grave every night for 14 years is so sad, but so comforting. The large, reddish stone was for his master, John. It was said Bobby was buried next to his grave, but there was no stone for him. It seemed like such an injustice after putting that graveyard on the world map! Is there one now? If not, I do wish there would be. (I like the sticks for Bobby though!) His loyalty knew no bounds. It is such a wonderful story. I need to track down that video and watch it again. Most of my ancestors were Scottish, so I guess the fascination with the country is understandable. I haven't watched all of Highlander either - yet! What on earth have I been doing! I am so glad to see videos of you, young lady. You do seem happy. It is an up and down thing for most of us. I am glad you enjoyed the trip and all the Art. After following you since you were a young teen, it is good to see you having fun. Do not let labels rule you. Just take and make your fun and enjoy it as much as you can! I am so glad you discovered kayaking!
What a fine, spontaneous thing to do! Your happiness on being able to climb that hill in such glorious weather was particularly great to witness in the video.
I love this for you! I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself, you deserve to have the best times.❤ I hope you find yourself well enough again soon to be able to do more of these fun travels. 🙏🏻💕
I was in Edinburgh for 4 days in June 2015, and it wasn't nearly enough time! The one sunny day we didn't know yet about Arthur's Seat, so we didn't go up there. I've love love love to go back.
Has pros and cons certainly. I think travelling single is far more expensive which I find so frustrating. Times when you want to have a partner on the bus cuddiling for warmth or making memories WITH someone as opposed to the endless life lived inside our own minds. I'd love to then reflect back to it with someone who has seen me happy at those stages and appreciates my quirks... The pros are - no pressures of sex at the end of the day to enjoy time away, no one holding you back if they don't agree or engage with what you're up to. Can really concentrate on what we love rather than faffing for someone else (or children I suppose). Not worrying about splitting bills, or paying the right amount at meals... or even having meals paid for or paying for entire meals. You just do you. Depending on what the travel is, its certainly better. I know for example - waltzing around galleries on my own has always been better than with partners so far in my life - they just haven't got me or seen what I see
@@beckiejbrown Those pros all sound pretty good... I guess the ideal traveling companion would be someone who wants to do cool things but is also respectful of one's desire to do their own thing, and is therefore capable of going off and doing their own thing too. I'm quite an introvert and in the past I've found that people (mainly partners) take it as a personal insult if I do need time to be alone with my brain, and that's probably shaped my perpetual solo adventurer lifestyle.
@@beckiejbrownthese cons sound like you’ve had some pretty ordinary rships in your life Beckie- me too. But then I found my partner. You will find someone who places no sexual expectations or financial controls on you. Good people are out there❤ You look so happy x
I can tell that this was both challenging and incredibly rewarding for you. Travel can be so so good for the soul. I'm genuinely happy that you faced the challenge and lucked out with weather. I hope your brain can work with your heart and find you a permanent home for memories like those. Seeing you smile like that is so so uplifting. I hope you get more travel time soon!
I visited Scotland for two plus weeks back in 2001. Loved it to death; however, my friends lived in St. Andrews and talked about the summer vs the winter. In the summer, they were like, "please birds, it's 4am in the morning, stop chirping!" In the winter, "oh, it's really dark outside, time to knock off working / grading papers / doing research . . . oh crap, it's only 4pm!" They said that the lack of daylight did make things rough for them during the winter. Luckily, schoolwork on their masters / doctorate kept them focused.
I love Edinburgh. I’ve done a couple of trips there on my own and did similar things as you did. I didn’t go during Fringe, thankfully. I’m glad you were healthy and had good weather. You will need to go back when there aren’t so many people and properly explore the old city.
So happy for you. I have been in Scotland earlier this month for 12 days. If you want peace and quiet Islay is thr place to go. I found Skye very busy!
Oooo, how wonderful to see you again so soon. Warm, sunny days in Edinburgh aren't unheard of but they are scarce so I can only surmise that the Scottish gods favored you out of happiness to see you. I'm glad you had a great time and posted so interesting a vlog - one of your best. Thanks. Now save your pennies and pounds and travel into the Highlands. The beauty will take your breath away.
Glad you had fun in scotland 😊 defiantly come back to Edinburgh when the fringe isnt on as its wayyy less busy (and maybe avoid December with the xmas market)
Love that you enjoyed the place. Haste ye back! If you get the chance, and you're back in Fife, maybe head to Falkland for the Outlander connection, and pop up the hill (East Lomond) for some cracking views.
I found this all too relatable, but I am Scottish and know Edinburgh well so it was nice seeing it through other eyes. If you want to find out more of a place that is even more beautiful, silent and vast (also good for kayaking), I may be able to let you into a secret or two.
Here in the US, if I travel south to Mexico or north to Canada I 100% see that as going to another country, so you absolutely did too! So glad you had such a wonderful trip and how happy it made you, Rebecca. :)
I'm American, and my mom is so OBSESSED with Outlander, she went to Scotland last year for a 10-day Outlander tour around the whole country. She missed the tattoo because her original flight was cancelled, but she's already talking about going back!
I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Scotland :) please come again, visit Loch Lomond or further north and experience miles and miles of NO PEOPLE, it's the best
As a fellow autistic person, large crowds of people don’t (necessarily) bother me. It really depends on whether there are any expectations for me to talk to them, whether I view them as judging me, how much sensory information is being shoved at me, etc. Amusement parks don’t bother me because, yes, there’s lots of people, but you’re still kind of… invisible. No one cares whether you’re there or not, you’re a background character. Which I enjoy haha. I love to travel. That’s when I’m at my happiest and most at peace, and I enjoy traveling with family. Honestly, the idea of traveling by myself is terrifying. I hope you get to travel more in the future.
lovely video!!! so inspiring too. id love to do some soloish traveling like this, but im in new zealand which is great but means just casually popping to another country is soo expensive + guaranteed hours of flying 😭 ill get there though just need to save up!!!
It is only when you have encountered difficulties, that you can appreciate true happiness. If you are feeling good, all of the time, it must be the meds. A bit of Leonard Cohen does you good. Best wishes
Before you leave the UK in search of solitude, maybe you should connect with Hattie Butterworth, a neuro divergent cellist who I understand is based somewhere in the countryside.
scotland wins again! 😂 joking obviously glad you had a nice time in Scotland .....i done the same thing in Edinburgh during the fringe my friend went to see a few shows and i was poor so i went with him and just spent the day walking about the city....it gets a bad rap from the rest of Scotland but when you are there all day when its busy then at night its eerily fantastic ......we booked the Greyfriars tour for halloween that was nice
I can see why - must be good for businesses though at that time maybe. I couldn't believe the schools were in session whilst all that was on at the time!
I find that the hate of people isn't so much about the autism itself. It's got a separate origin that can be addressed separately. And depending on what that separate origin is (there are multiple options) it can be changed over time, or you're still stuck with it.
Im glad u enjoyed Scotland as its were im born and live its amazing it has so much to explore and more^^ hope u come back id for sure recomend falkirk and glenco
