  • This video was recorded in 1999 to mark the millennium. Written and presented by local historian Tony Brewin and produced by Peter Butler.
An entertaining walk through of notable places, events, people and how Melton Mowbray has become famous for food, farming, markets, our unique Town Estate, fox hunting and the odd saying!

The beguining? Melton has origins long back in into prehistory. Its at a confluence of many pre Bronze-age routes from many areas. Sewstern Lane and the Ridgeway that connects Syston and the Wreake to Tilton on the hill.., burrough hill... You start the history post Romano. Its a much more ancient area. Even if you begin in the Ang-Sax, you make no reference to the River Eye/Wreake and its importance with Viking settlements.
