RCA cords - i’ve had gigs where they’ve saved me from not being able to patch into the master. Also a pre-recorded mix in every genre locally on your laptop in the event that you need to stall for time
Mini controller and laptop or tablet/phone and required cables. If the house system has catastrophic failure, I have a complete mini/portable setup ready to go in my backpack.
These days I would never rely on a club/bar/pub's house gear unless I have seen it that day beforehand. Dusty, sticky and who knows what the last DJ did to it beforehand. For the last 3 years, I have been bringing my own controller to all gigs (first as a backup, and then just started using it for all my sets) and no venue has ever had a problem with it. If they want you on at prime time, they will let you play on whatever you want. The only time I don't use my rig, is if I'm opening for a big name and then YOU KNOW the venue has brought in top tier gear for the night. As long as you're using a pro controller (Rane Performer, Pioneer Rev7, etc.) the sound will not suffer and switching out the house xlrs from a club mixer to your controller mains takes 1 min.
I am sure we as DJ's carry several mixes on our phone its always good to bring a adapter to connect your phone to the mixer in case you computer starts acting up.
The paper towels/napkins for temporary slip mats works surprisingly well, and it’s tough to even see them underneath a record. I’ve definitely done that before!
Very rarely have I ran into a bar/club gig that has a house set up here in Texas. I'm not primarily a club DJ but I've never even seen anyone with a house set up. You should definitely try to be prepared though.
And so does a rev 1 or and small controller that fits in your bag just in case the whole house system is a piece of s#%t you can just pull it out do your thang and bounce I’ve seen it happen like this plenty of times!😂

Couple of other pro tips: For thumb drives, I would also add the tone control files in it. Just in case the cd’s doesn’t read. And for laptop users, it’s also good to keep audio drivers of the popular mixers, so Serato/Rekordbox/VDJ doesn’t have to download it. Firmware drivers too.. I’ve seen multiple “dj’s” ended up not spinning because the drivers were not installed. Long story short, it’s always better to be overprepared specially when it’s your first time in that location!
2 usb sticks and CD's with Serato timecode, 2 usb B cables for either a CDJ or a controller, Batteries for a wireless mic, Laptop stand, extra cables for an external HD or SSD, Y cable and RCA cables
Couple you missed; for turntables, a stylus/needle brush. Nothing worse than the record skipping or not tracking because a wad of dust is stuck on the stylus. Similarly, a record cleaning brush. If you actually play 45s, your own 45 adapters. For CDJs, not one, but two thumb drives in case the CDJ's aren't properly networked (or the first usb stick has a problem). Under miscellaneous: A good water bottle. Yeah, you shouldn't have liquids around the booth, but it is great having a bottle with a lid to stay hydrated and safe. Lastly, a pack of gum and a granola bar/candy bar.
Hey listen this is gonna sound 🤓 but screen / lens wipes. Especially for those of us with glasses, you never know when you’re gonna accidentally schmutz your peepers and not be able to see the beat grid. Not only that, it keeps your laptop or CDJ screens looking fresh, and even adds a smidge of sanitation if you saw the DJ before you blowing snot rockets on the crossfader or whatever 😂
if you have to bring all that stuff with you everytime you go to play better buy a small controller and hook it to their mixer. for places where space is an issue i have my portable turntables :)

This is an apocalypse 😳 guide to a dj gig. Number 1 thing is scope out the place a week prior or a night before. Most of the time cdjs will be there. Vinyls are less common now adays.

Bring a laptop 💻 and bring a phone with iPhone adapter with Djay app! Sometimes sticks don’t work. I been there !! Comes in super super handy!
