It doesn't have a sad ending, really, the edit makes it look like Ander was beaten up for being Gay, but it was because of an unrelated event. I think the show is very realistic and they're the most healthy, loyal and loving couple in it, trust me. I do understand what you're saying tho, I'm so done with lgbt characters having miserable lives and dying in books, movies and shows. It's getting old.
