hi james i recently had all new victron swicth gear fitted to my narrowboat and have had the solar dump installed aswell .... there is a feed to set up the dump inside the victron invertor ... one goes to make the 204v work and is the supply to your 240v fuseboard and the other feed out in bottom of invertor goes to a 16amp trip then on then to a time clock which controls on and off to then go to the immersion heater element .... time clock set to come on at 11am so the first part of morning free electric tops up house bank of batteries for the day then when sun is coming up to the hotest part of day the time clock switches on to heat the water ... the house bank needs to be 99% before the invertor switches supply on to the immersion and when the house bank of batteries drop to 95% it switches off so the house bank gets the free electric to the take it back upto 99% and it just keeps doing that till 4pm when my time clock switch off supply to immersion so it dont run down the house batteries before the evening starts .... to set up the switching thing in invertor a laptop and the special lead that you can get from victron so laptop can talk to invertor to set up all the setting needed to set up the victron switch gear and set up the limits on your lithium batteries so they dont over charge and all the other stuff you need to set up the cerbo gx and solar chargers ....i must say thou to make the solar dump work well you need 1000watts plus of solar capacity from your panels else when it kicks in and draws the power from batteries you need that solar wattage to take the batteries back up to 99% so it can again click in again from invertor to make it send 240v to immersion heater again ..... last summer was pretty shit so the odd days it did shine the set up worked well .... having it set up this way makes sure your house bank off batteries are protected first and the immersion cannot drain all your power by accident .....hope this helps
James I'd check, but I think if you put the calorifier under the bed it's to far away from the engine? The water would be to cool by the time it reached that far. I think it has to be within a certain distance to the engine? I could be wrong so I'd check.

hi again i forgot to say there is a couple of vlogs on u tube to show how you get the invertor to work the solar dump from its settings in the invertor .... there is a few things you need to program into the invertor so it takes a few rewinds of vlog to make sure you dont miss a step in its programming .... but it does work and to get free hot water in the summer is just brilliant

For the 'this ship loves' wall, you could laser engrave all the names into the reverse side of the cupboard doors. It keeps the names honoured and makes a great visual set piece for what is essentially and access space.

Regarding the Calorifier, dont forget that Domestic Hot Water needs to come out of the Top of the Cylinder. You may need to rotate it in the Clamps. Hope all is well Old Friend 🙂

I still don’t understand why a full set of Victron electronics and a couple of LiFePO4 leisure batteries is better than an EcoFlow Delta Pro. The Victron kit costs more and can’t be used anywhere other than the boat. Please will someone explain it to me?
@@markxtc123 it’s a valid question and one I’ve seriously considered. The main reason is that the Victron set up can do so much more and is far better prospected as a system than just an EcoFlow. Those EcoFlows have a limited amount of solar - they may take up to 2000w of panels but at a low amperage - therefore filling them is very tricky just with solar. That’s the main issue. Other concerns would be in the event of a malfunction - that’s it no power. But with a larger system it’s possible to diagnose the issue and fix it. Also Victron has many safety features that EcoFlow don’t have. Don’t get me wrong - it could work but it doesn’t come close to a proper Victron set up but costs about the same. The Victron system is more versatile and easier and cheaper to scale up and add components . However I will be using a delta pro as my backup and for that it’s perfect. Those are just my reasons and I’m sure others would have some others -
A calorifier is essentially a hot water tank as you say, but with subtle differences. A domestic hot water cylinder generally has one coil heated by a domestic boiler and is mounted vertically. A calorifier has two coils, one heated by a boiler and one heated by the hot water from the engine and they are generally (but not always), mounted horizontally. If you went to a chandler and asked for a hot water tank, they would advise that you need a calorifier.

Yes mate that was an EcoFlow delta pro - massive output. I’m sure a mobile welder will have the power though - hope that helps

Correct, it is generally a boat thing. We use water tanks in houses.
