Keep at it. You have a fun and energetic way of explaining stuff. Other people can do bigger better fancier builds, but they don't explain what they are doing, you are explaining and teaching when you do it.
Fantastic stuff and great timing for me too! I've just redone my garage system this weekend and replaced my old Pioneer headunit with the same Aiyima amplifier running some DLS components and a JL 12W3 off a dewalt battery. So shocked at how well and loud the thing sounds! I was gifted a Yamaha HS8 bass driver ages ago (so obliged to do something with it) and not having any T/S parameters never knew what to do with it except maybe transmission line. I was always put off by most of the comments posted in forums etc about the complexity and my ability to get it right, but this has re-inspired me. I'll be playing with speakers again this weekend, thanks.
You were mentioning the clarity of "the thumb on the E string". That's what I love about T-lines, the clarity of the bass. It's usually very natural, not boomy, more realistic when listening to acoustic instruments. I have a pair I built from a kit, but to be honest I've never built another pair because I was thinking I had to hold to all the complicated shit to get a pair that sounded decent. Well to hell with that, I'm going to build a pair using the basics. Thanks for sharing this. Oh also, try throwing some dampening material in there and the bass won't fall off as quickly.

Making your own speakers can be quite satisfying. My speakers each have one 15" woofer, two Philips AD0210 SQ4 dome Mid-Range drivers, and four Philips AD0160 /T8 dome tweeters. How long do they last you may wonder. I built the speakers back in 1976. The only eventual replacements were the outer foam rings of the woofers. The old rings had begun to turn to dust. But that only cost about $27 and an hours work per woofer.

As a person who's built and modified my own sound equipment i 100% agree with you. Doing it yourself not only saves you money and is fun and educational but if you do it right the results can really impress you and be better than pre-made sound equipment that is much more expensive. Even if you use cheap equipment that doesn't mean it's bad at all! You'd be surprised how good cheap equipment has gotten. Definitely recommend more people try this. It's a fun & educational hobby!

It all depends on where your shopping. I got a really good small sound system from walmart. It was 120w 3.1 channel system. It got a front left, right, center and a 200w sub. For anyone wanting a decent sound system good will is a great place to check. Same with some pawn shops. Alot of shops usually underprice home stereo/theater systems and overprice car subwoofers
Amazing job on those speakers. I can tell the sub is doing work since my sub was picking up the low notes that the sub in that video was playing. Thats impressive. This inspires me to do my own project. i hope to see more of you man

Bloody amazing content, keep up the amazing work. 😄 so glad someone’s having fun with cheap speakers & subs and sharing it with the world, makes for great content🤣
just found you what you are doing is awesome. testing and building. loved the big jbl in the window. me and a buddy of mine call it geeking out on stereos. waddy kentucky usa says hello
I’d love to see some controlled frequency db testing to be able to see how the calculated frequencies vs actual output of the build. Haven’t built a T-Line for around 10 years, but this is the first time hearing about placing the speaker down the line to flatten response. When I calculated mine, I was assuming beginning of the wave started at the back of the speaker, so I always located my subs right at the beginning of the line. I hope that makes sense, and I’d love to experiment with that to see if the peak frequency shifts at all, or how much db you lose (if any) by flattening the curve and getting a broader response range. Also I never thought to put tweeters in the T-Line, do they seem unaffected by being in the enclosure? Could be a nice space saver
Totally unbothered! Because the tweet is sealed, all the wave sees is a very minor bump in the woods surface which makes no difference what so ever to the response.
Greetings from Canada, eh! Great videos and I love your enthusiasm and energy. Quite infectious. How about doing a video on actually designing and building a transmission line speaker system like this one? I am sure lots of us would love to see it and you have a great way of teaching. Looking forward to the next video mate!
@johnb1156 greetings, eh! It's certainly an idea but I think there are people out there that are far more qualified than myself for such a task, im certainly no leading expert on transmission lines and I wouldn't want to p155 people off be pretending to be 😊. There's plenty more content on the way, im just stuck on the latest project currently!
With much respect. I have seen some of those videos and tbh, after I still have no idea and want to get that 30 minutes or so of my life back. I think you would be able to show and explain in simple enough terms for all of us to understand. So I’ll be watching your videos because they are damned good, and hoping one day to see a tutorial on transmission lines eh. 😊
Having the speaker 1/3 of the way down the line does not "flatten the response" necessarily. You are cancelling the harmonics that cause you to only have 3x the fB as your range, so once you place your speaker 1/3 the way you can play higher. HornResp is great, play with it
This video was great fun, I'd love to build speakers in the future. Also you've got overscan turned on with your TV, the edges are being cut off for stupid old TV broadcast reasons. There's probably a mode setting somewhere on there to fix it.
Technically you have made quarter-wave "tubes", a true transmission-line has specific damping materials along it's length to absorb certain frequencies and prevent reflections. I have a pair of TL speakers that someone DIYed back in the 80s using USA made Realistic full-range drivers (cheap and cheerful, but Realistic was serious about home hi-fi back then). The TL is fully damped and even the front baffle has damping material on the front under the grill material. They sound fricken amazing and the sound-stage is truly something to hear for near-field listening.
I agree with this a hundred percent. Build some similar TLines with an Tuning of around 60hz with a few different sets of speakers in (Speakers placed in the beginning of the line). and damn. These sound so good. Some Acoustic stuffing on the backwall of the line to prevent some unwanted reflections and you have it. an damn good sounding pair of speakers. Love your vids bro. Keep em up!
I have just subscribed to this channel, after seeing this. I have always owned hi-end stereo separates and speakers, so this was an interesting watch. 👍🏼
@PacmanBasshead I agree, this is potentially going to spur me on to create my own floor standing speakers? This has my spider senses tingling... now, lets get down to looking at full range subs ect 😜
I built some big dog transmission lines as well. Twin 6.5's and a 1 inch tweeter, with my own recipe of 2.5 way crossovers. They're tuned to about 38Hz, but dig down to 30 with ease. They're phenomenal and surprise the absolute crap out of everyone who hears them.
@@PacmanBasshead I think you did well given the drivers used, and they seem (given your comments/reaction) to blend with the sub nicely. You'll push the drivers to distortion if you ask much more of them. That said, when the sense of "what if" gets the better of you and you inevitably build new enclosures, add another woofer in the same 2.5 crossover setup I used. It's an easy upgrade, given you understand the principles, and then you'll be able to target lower frequencies efficiently. From memory, a rear port was more in phase below 45Hz (or something like that), but I don't remember if that was due to the enclosure depth, more than frequency... They measure as well as they sound (using REW), so whatever the reason was, it's correct for my setup. I look forward to watching that video in the near future 😁
I subscribed to you today, watched a few of your videos, and this is by far the best DIY cheap sound series i have ever seen! Keep up the good work mate!
I would probably make the mains tuned just as low as they can go and just use a larger enclosure. Should be plenty loud and low. Getting the sub up above in the attic might help some too
@@PacmanBasshead Agree! The commercial was clear not muddled, that was proof enough for me. Why not just do some wood fill, paint and add some fancy feet? I bet you can sell those for profit or a 10k subscriber giveaway?
Great job! I built many speakers and it is fun. And if you do like this, you can get great results for an affordable price. I belive that spend a few more money on the Wood, you get extra good results. Dont need to be much thicker than this, but really dont build with to thin Wood. Then you need to put braces everywere Also, you dont always need Wool in the speaker. That is often used to fool the speaker that the box is bigger. Spend an extra few hours on facts and how to, and you all Will be very surprised what you just build!
@@franshaan7388 Yes, this post was more to beginners who watches this series. Very fun, to watch. Its actually more science than many thinks behind a clean sound that is hz matched. But it doesnt need to be that expensive as byuing a set for 1000$ Some math, some carpenting and you soon have a nice set of sound. Sell them and earn a few bucks, build a new pair with higher quality of speakers. Try different setups, as tweeter, 6,5” mid base, 2x 8” base elements. That offers for a really good stereo setup with the right volume of the box. Think this way also, the bigger woofer you mount, the more air it might push. But it can sound crap in a small room. Two 12” bases are like one 18” base in area, but they act quite differently. 18” can have trouble to get a snappy base. But pushes good on low hz. If you not but really expensive bases that can handle that effect required to push hard and fast. So, its easier and more affordable to build with 8” or 12” for bases. Good push, that can go deep and be snappy, a great mix for normal rooms.
With some decent stuffing, and absorbing treatment on the inside surfaces, it would be even better still! You could have lined the inside with cheap felt padding, and some pillow polyfill would get it done on the cheap.... but the cabinets are already closed :(
Hi, if you want to check ish tuning on your box. Play hz tones at good and high volume, watch the sub... When the sub is standing most still... there you have your tuning :) Tline should be much more videos of, really fun boxes. my self i was going to build dual chamber bass reflex box, but since seller sent me 12 insted of 10" then i need to change plans. thinking of tline myself.
Have to say, i partialy watched bits of one other video you made, and very quickly came to the conclusion you were... well, abit of a dose... Sir, i owe you an apology. Your an absalute Fcukin Legend

Would be great if you could do a v2 of this vid going a bit more in depth on the build process and lessons learned from v1 and comments n such. Thanks, fun vid got a sub. Oh maybe a reuse car speakers to desktop pc speakers would be neat, the cheapest speakers are the ones you already got laying around 😉
Well, glad you did go with transmission line in the end, i think you should try to up the budget and start building higher, and higher, maybe for next idea go with car subwoofer build, just by using temu.
Trouble is, temu doesnt ship big speakers and the 12 they do have looks so bad i wouldn't want to waste my time on it! If you can find a sub on temu thats worth chucking in a car please met me know 😊
They may work even better if you added some correctly tuned crossovers to the speaker cabinets. Great build and really good explanation of Transmission Line speakers
Really pleased it turned out good. I've been messing with this kind of thing since being an apprentice decorator. (You need music to work by.) Started with putting old radio cassette players back together and fiddling with more speakers before building up to all kinds of wierd boxes and getting a lot louder. Currently messing/experimenting with should I go with line arrays or large diameter cones?

Great video, you've got a subscription from me. I love the backyard budget build, I suppose it makes me feel this is something I could do myself.
I would probably make the mains tuned just as low as they can go and just use a larger enclosure. Should be plenty loud and low. Getting the sub up above in the attic might help some too
Nice! Great video! Sounds really good without the dampening.
It probably *could* be smoothed out with damping but for yout average consumer, its plenty good enough!
@@PacmanBasshead Agree! The commercial was clear not muddled, that was proof enough for me. Why not just do some wood fill, paint and add some fancy feet? I bet you can sell those for profit or a 10k subscriber giveaway?
13:57 I'd love to make something like that. I do small DIY stuff in my channel and planned on doing some small speaker projects in the future.
Cool, facking energetic, fun, entertaining and educational.
Keep up the amazing work/fun
Thanks man!
Great job!
I built many speakers and it is fun. And if you do like this, you can get great results for an affordable price.
I belive that spend a few more money on the Wood, you get extra good results. Dont need to be much thicker than this, but really dont build with to thin Wood.
Then you need to put braces everywere
Also, you dont always need Wool in the speaker.
That is often used to fool the speaker that the box is bigger.
Spend an extra few hours on facts and how to, and you all Will be very surprised what you just build!
I know Adam a bit longer, he is into Soundquality as well as bass. He has allready done great stuff but doesn't show it off that much!

Yes, this post was more to beginners who watches this series.
Very fun, to watch.
Its actually more science than many thinks behind a clean sound that is hz matched. But it doesnt need to be that expensive as byuing a set for 1000$
Some math, some carpenting and you soon have a nice set of sound.
Holy hell mate your vids are absolutely hilarious they’ve inspired me to want to start my own project 😂
Good! Do it!
With some decent stuffing, and absorbing treatment on the inside surfaces, it would be even better still! You could have lined the inside with cheap felt padding, and some pillow polyfill would get it done on the cheap.... but the cabinets are already closed :(
So this is what im now learning, what stuffing goes where 🫠. Its a minefield!
Hi, if you want to check ish tuning on your box. Play hz tones at good and high volume, watch the sub... When the sub is standing most still... there you have your tuning :)
Tline should be much more videos of, really fun boxes.
my self i was going to build dual chamber bass reflex box, but since seller sent me 12 insted of 10" then i need to change plans.
thinking of tline myself.
Love your vids and i hope you become a big TH-camr soon in the future
Thankyou mate that's such a nice thing to say 😀
Love your Montage Tunes.
Have to say, i partialy watched bits of one other video you made, and very quickly came to the conclusion you were... well, abit of a dose...
Sir, i owe you an apology. Your an absalute Fcukin Legend
You are the undisputed master of run-on sentences. Well done; I had to replay it thrice at 75%.
PS. (That's not criticism; I'm just jealous.)
@@226SW40 haha thankyou, i dont even try, i tried to write jokes and gags but they suck!
Yh they sound top notch bro will upload my build when i start next month waiting on clamps and midbase drivers ..am making some ten inch studio monitors just for fun
@constantine2731 thatll be a loud studio!
@@PacmanBasshead hopefully lol 😂
Great content brother, Happy to have found your channel. Might just have to order some stuff and put those extra car speakers to work.
@LewdnCute happy to have you man! Thanks!
Very entertaining as ever, kinda worried about your dome long term, but hey that's your problem😆Keep on keeping on!
Those gaming socks look like something I already have.
Or at least close to what I have.
Looking forward to more videos like this. I subscribed
Thankyou!
Hi Francis, congratulations. You are a global celebrity 😂! I am Alexandre from Brazil and I am up for the challenge! I am studying to build a PC sound system! I am planning something smaller and easier, since I am right-handed but apparently, I was born with two left hands!
Brilliant haha, maybe learn scissors before cutting wood if you have two left hands 🤣🤣.
i didnt expect him bump his head im new here lol
Haha, youll get used to it!
Cara, estas caixa são incríveis, obrigado pela aula
"I'm going to go spend some money that i don't have on a project that i don't know if its gonna work"
This is exactly me lol 🤣🤣
this guy is so fucking underrated, i hope your channel will grow a lott because this content is worth more then 2k likes and 9k subs. Keep it up!
Thankyou man, its on the right trajectory now! Ive got a load of video ideas in the pipeline so i hope they work out!
OMG. This is how it's supposed to be! Fast, cheap and outta control. Subbed!
(You need music to work by.)
Started with putting old radio cassette players back together and fiddling with more speakers before building up to all kinds of wierd boxes and getting a lot louder.
Currently messing/experimenting with should I go with line arrays or large diameter cones?
