I keep hearing Destin from Smarter Every Day in my head.... "keep it short or noone will watch". learning how to keep things tighter and stick to essentials and interesting tidbits. But yeah, lots, lots, lots left out. I think my days of 25 minute vidoes have come to an end. under ten or die tryin'. hope you are feeling wellness.
No matter how hard I tried to understand this I couldn't. But when I came to this vid it helped ALOT. Could you please talk more about things like the Tea Act and other taxing and what it caused?
LOVE your videos and enthusiasm! I have used some of your videos in my class to help my students and would love to use more, but frankly can't due to your cussing. Please consider the fact that your audience could be significantly broadened if you chose not to use cuss words to make your point.
Remembering is a tough sell. These videos are designed to help with that. I do have some test strategy vids.... their is a "Guessing for Dummies", A Meditation for Tests and a DBQ for Dummies if you have a document essay......
my teacher doesn't teach in class but instead talks about his life, i love coming to your channel and actually learning something. Thanks to u my gpa in class went up thanks
I just subscribed to your channel and honestly my inner history geek is doing the happy dance. Sleep I don't need no stinking sleep not with all these cool videos.
Excellent. I love this era because it was a huge turning point. So much more could have been said but you have to cut somewhere. Nicely done. Any Hughes fighting back then or is your family all late-comers?
Eric Jay Dolin stated in his book Fur, Fortune, and Empire that the British didn't wand the Americans to cross the Appalachian Mts. Because it would spoil the fur trade in that area. Which meant going further inland to supply their markets. Which most of the conflicts in America were over the fur trade
really interresting channel, also if you are speaking fast (I'm french, and sometimes it is diffucult to understand :) ) are you in real life an historian or history teacher? because I would have loved to have a teacher like you! makes history much more interresting!
Wasn't it a member from Washington's outfit that accidentally shot into the french and later had Tanaghrisson (Iroquois "Ally") that stabbed a french diplomat leading to the battle of fort duquesne?
Any chance you could publish a video about how you make these videos? I'm learning about flipped classrooms and would love to learn how to present engaging social studies videos like yours.
I like what you are doing, but I find the backgrounds either distracting or informative and obscured. I also think there is too much reverb on your voice. Though that you are at times talking without script and just going for it is great! I would like to watch this revised with the same vibrancy but more tidy.
Chill! Slow down. You are talking way too fast there chief. Thank your for the video post on early American/British/ French/American and Canadian Indian history. A little less speed please.
Have you considered making videos about American history from a global perspective (particularly Mexico and Canada)? I think this would help us viewers better understand history overall and from a less biased perspective.
Hey yo Keith! You're a straight up G! Thanks for doing what you do, you do it well! I'm taking a college history class and your lectures are legit and seriously helpful. Dude and the beats you drop on your videos are siiick! Thank you!!
You Nailed it. Good job. Short, sweet, concise. Hey Teacher: "Leave that invisible non-existent PONY alone!" What? You want me to tell you to leave the kids alone?
I love this guy and the videos he and his group produces. i find it very suitable for the classroom and entertaining. This is another resource for the drill and kill process.
I want you to tell me all of the CAUSES of the French and Indian War. Second Paragraph: I want you to tell me the 4 major EFFECTS of the French and Indian War. Third Paragraph: What is the BIG LESSON to be learned from the French and Indian War?
OMG!! I understand you better than my teacher which is very odd o.o maybe i just dont listen well but THANK YOU!! u help me alot :3 and yesh u need a haircut ^^
You're welcome. Hope you sub and check out the deep reservoir of vids, over 200. And I still need a haircut. And make sure to share your new secret help source with your school peeps!
I wish there was more info about Braddock's epic defeat, the battles at Lake George, Ticonderoga, Quebec, & Montreal. Half of the video shouldn't be devoted to the effects of the war. Or if Mr. Hughes wants to spend 4:30 on the results, then please add about 3 - 5 mins on the war itself. This would be an epic 12 - 14 minute video. It's a nice summary and a memorable presentation, but too short. I used the first half for my 7th/8th grade students. It helped memorably re-inforce the learning that took place.
As a native Pittsburgher who once worked at the Ft. Pitt museum, I am going to be "that girl". Ft. Duquesne is actually pronounced Ft."du KANE" and Washington was sent to the area twice before Braddock's Defeat, both times following the Potomac from VA into what is now W.VA before entering what is now western PA. Braddock followed the same route in 1755, only widening it. It was not until 1758 when Forbes captured Ft. Duquesne for the British that a road was cut across PA (GW was there too!).
actually the british didnt treat the french badly they allowed them to keep their lands thats why you still have such a big french population in Canada many of the french that went to louisiana were former title holders and french that couldnt see living side by sude with english.
This was great! I had to watch this and another video for my us history class, the other obviously took lots of money and actors to produce and i was bored to death so i learned nothing, but this video was interesting
You are so freeeeeeking smart!!!! I give you the award for smartest history professor ever!!!! Have you ever thought about being a college professor when your in your 50 and 60s so you don't have to work so hard and get paid double !!!! Do it!
this is a teacher right, Mr. Hughes . teachers put this videos on in the prometian board right, but it says ass in the middle of the video, " pain in the ass ", and other stuff over exaggerating over this whole thing like the world is about to end, and he said subscribe or a pony dies. LIKE WHAT I AM CONFUSED HERE
Halfway through and already found two mistakes! Fort Duquesne (2nd time) was 1757, not 1775 Paris Peace Settlement in 1763, not 1863 Maybe you could put it on the screen so that people don't make that kind of mistakes.
In 1954 it's not fort Duquesne's battle it's Fort Necessity battle, were outnumbered milician and Indians Under Washigton'command had to retreat. Fort Duquesne's assault took place 4 years later in 1958, the British regular Army with nearly 6000 men took the place without a fight , its 500 french defenders burned it and retreated before their arriving. anyway this war is a long skirmish with only 6/7 real battles, wich were more balanced than commonly said. It's fun that the Fort Carillon Battle is usually not mentioned , i guess winners are doing history. A pity cause this battle is kind of a stunning victory 15 000 British Regular lost against 3000 French. Another thing to know, the British had complete domination over sea, a situation that made them, N°1 target for all the other Empires that had any colonies in the world. It was not only France. England was at the same time at war with Spain(Gibraltar),Neitherland(South Africa), Austria,Russia,France (Hanover). During the 7 year war (the real name of this conflict) the British and their Fleet had pushed Great Britain borders litteraly to the coasts of Europe, forbidding any fleet crafting, by watching all important military ports, Le Havre, La Rochelle, Toulon, Amsterdam etc... It was nearly to impossible for the French to send massive backups for there colonies in America, except for little convoys, each time they tried naval fight they were captured or destroyed, by the British Fleet wich was more skilled and powerfull. In the mean time Great Brtitain send 50 000 mens of their best with all material necessary... That's how you win a war, with a good global strategy, man quality counts, but is never enough .
I REALLY love your reviews! I work at a small Christian school with a little budget, and it's great to have a quality review video without having to pay big prices. That being said...I can't show the class this video because you swear :( Boooo Please keep it clean to appeal to all audiences.
I am a 39 year old Medical Cannabis Patient here in Maine. Wrong English I know....Some will hate huh? Anyway...Can we get a Why Cannabis is Illegal lesson? The world we live in is changing and in need of a little Truth. Or is it too much of a touchy subject? I'd understand.
My 5x great grand pappy Fredrick Michael See was murdered by a Shawnee raid led by Cornstalk and Puksinwah. It was known as the Muddy Creek massacre and was the result of those pesky settlers illegally moving west after the French and Indian War.
I was really looking forward to showing this to my fifth graders. Keith Hughes is funny and I think my students would enjoy him. But when the word "ass" pops up then that makes it inappropriate for fifth graders. I know they say it and hear it all the time but I can't go there in a conservative, rural district. I guess this is targeted for older learners. Too bad, I really like it.
Sorry Amy, I don't script and just speak from my soul so sometimes words like "ass" pop up, I know it cuts a hard line. On one point it gives the video an edge and ropes kids in but as professionals in the class in some districts its a rough go. If I only say it once you could very simply pause the video and just skip it with a mouse clip! I won't tell you that I am also an admin for the "Badass Teachers Association" (36,000 members) so me stopping the ass word is probably a no go but Ill try to be a but more aware..... much love and peace ~HipHughes
Amy Compton You could mute the video at that point. I did. However, with the movie/TV obsession with the world, it's pretty calm in language compared to the filth of Hollywood.
I don't see both sides. The British did what they felt they needed to do in their own self interests, regardless of the Colonists. They just thought it was convenient to tax them and use the French/Indian war as justification. It's like if someone gave me a lift to the store, and they were going anyway, and my place is on the way so it doesn't take any extra gas to stop and get me, but they're gonna want me to pay for half the gas to get us there and back. Although it might be a little insensitive for me not to offer a couple bucks in gas money out of common courtesy, it still doesn't justify them in expecting me to pay money for a trip that didn't cost them any extra than what they had already planned on spending.
I agree, they should be the norm. However we live in the world as it exists not as we would imagine. Well.... that's not necessarily true..I think John Lennon just rolled over in his grave...... but for my reply to your comment its all I can come up with.
Who else is here for school?

Me :/
yessir
Yep my late ass slept in for math and music and writing, and now I made it to history and I barely went on break ✨😭
Why else would we be here?
Yes, I misspoke I said proclamation of 1783, instead of 1763.
Thanks for kudos! I love these comments! And kudos to you for kicking ass. Be sure to share HHH with your peeps for good karma points!
Thanks! Be sure to share the site with all of your AP Peeps. Pay it forward!
I keep hearing Destin from Smarter Every Day in my head.... "keep it short or noone will watch". learning how to keep things tighter and stick to essentials and interesting tidbits. But yeah, lots, lots, lots left out. I think my days of 25 minute vidoes have come to an end. under ten or die tryin'. hope you are feeling wellness.
and then the algorithm started to prioritize watch time over all else... simpler times, they were.
No matter how hard I tried to understand this I couldn't. But when I came to this vid it helped ALOT. Could you please talk more about things like the Tea Act and other taxing and what it caused?
Awesome info! Thanks for the layer, ill have to vuidit the museum, I'm not far in buffalo!
LOVE your videos and enthusiasm! I have used some of your videos in my class to help my students and would love to use more, but frankly can't due to your cussing. Please consider the fact that your audience could be significantly broadened if you chose not to use cuss words to make your point.
The second time George Washington went back to the French forts you said 1775, did you mean 1755?
Remembering is a tough sell. These videos are designed to help with that. I do have some test strategy vids.... their is a "Guessing for Dummies", A Meditation for Tests and a DBQ for Dummies if you have a document essay......

The 7 years war was said to be the first world war
if someone asks, yes, a world war was fought in the continental united states
Wasn't it a member from Washington's outfit that accidentally shot into the french and later had Tanaghrisson (Iroquois "Ally") that stabbed a french diplomat leading to the battle of fort duquesne?

Duquesne is pronounced Du-cane
George's 2nd forway doesn't leave- builds and surrenders Fort Necessity
The main idea is you neeed a haircut

At 4.09 he talks about The Treaty of Paris in 1873, but the graphics show 1763
Thank you!
You are a life saver!!
I'm planning to self study for the US history regents in August, will watching the entire playlist entitled "U.S. History explained" be enough?
You Nailed it. Good job. Short, sweet, concise. Hey Teacher: "Leave that invisible non-existent PONY alone!" What? You want me to tell you to leave the kids alone?
I learn more from your videos than i ever did in school
Do you know which six Native tribes met with the colonies during this first almost meeting without the British?
Proclamation of 1763** at 6 minutes I think. Great video. Thanks as always.
very informative but that music is just terrible
ikr
Hashtag Awesome. Thanks for the kind words.
It doesn't have to be short if it is interesting. If it is dense material shorter is better, but I rather like the length of these videos.
Appropriate for Middle and high School
Thank you so much; this was very helpful, and your sense of humor really lightened up the war!!
im indian and im unaware of this war , and now i am
I love this guy and the videos he and his group produces. i find it very suitable for the classroom and entertaining. This is another resource for the drill and kill process.
Do you mean 1755 instead of 1775 at 3:35 yeah? Great video!
your videos always help me collect all my thoughts after a long lecture from my teacher, thank you !
Nailed it. Using spikes and a sledgehammer! Take a bow!
I want you to tell me all of the CAUSES of the French and Indian War.
Second Paragraph: I want you to tell me the 4 major EFFECTS of the French and Indian War.

I do not know anything about US history but I wanted to self study for it next year January
Was halting expansion the right thing to do?

Hi I have two tests on Thursday can you give me tips about how to remember this history stuff😁
As a native Pittsburgher who once worked at the Ft. Pitt museum, I am going to be "that girl". Ft. Will do! Thanks for the quick response. You certainly are the cat's meow....the bee's knees...the ....cows....I don't know....Thanks, man!
This was great! I had to watch this and another video for my us history class, the other obviously took lots of money and actors to produce and i was bored to death so i learned nothing, but this video was interesting
You are welcome Posioness Potato
Am I hearing this right? 1863? How' many times is the 1800s going to be used in this?
British Proclamation was in 1763. not 1863 or 1783 or whatever he said
I am a real life teacher. And I have a problem talking fast. It is genetic.
If you would like to know about this from our viewpoint (native) feel free to ask.
You are so freeeeeeking smart!!!! I give you the award for smartest history professor ever!!!! Have you ever thought about being a college professor when your in your 50 and 60s so you don't have to work so hard and get paid double !!!! Do it!
I adjunct now. Double pay? lol. Nope! College professors get paid as crappy as high school teachers!
No mention of the Hudson's Bay Company and their stake in all this?
Is it the Cow's Milk?

Would like to show this to my 5th graders. However, the use of profanity will prevent me from doing so
Roon Mc why does it matter the a word is not a bad word
Because they are 10 year olds and that language is not appropriate for them
+Roon Mc They say it all the time behind your back.
Skip that part my teacher did
I'm sure they have heard the president say worse on live TV.
I'm doing a project right now and this is like feeding my brain
Does someone know who made those awesome beats ? And the names ?

That's how you win a war, with a good global strategy, man quality counts, but is never enough

Given that this war started in 1754 (and not 1954) and lasted until 1763, there's very little sense in calling it the Seven Years War.
I REALLY love your reviews! I work at a small Christian school with a little budget, and it's great to have a quality review video without having to pay big prices. That being said...I can't show the class this video because you swear :( Boooo Please keep it clean to appeal to all audiences.
The seven year wars really didn't end well for the Acadians that for sure.
it was a common medieval tactic to launch rotting corpses into enemy cities/castles. nothing new there.
Actually Washington attacked first. According to several records he attacked a French and Huron party without real provocation.
Lots of lost violence in the history of our continent.

It was known as the Muddy Creek massacre and was the result of those pesky settlers illegally moving west after the French and Indian War.
like go check out the fort baby hahahahaha freaking cracked me up hahahaha
french and indian war, the war of the forts!
Was also going to say bio not chem. Also not sure if your demographics are middle schooler's as much as brain wrinklers like myself.
1:04 where did you find that map?
