Every Dead (and dying) Mall seems to have a PAYLESS shoe store - just today it was announced that they are pulling the plug on 2100 stores! How will this affect these dead or almost dying malls?
The thing with payless is that their margins were already so low, on products that most people can pay the same price on clearances or sales. Clothing industry today was not like it was 20 years ago. You buy something like Steve Madden or Kenneth Cole on sale for as low as $20 once it's on clearnace. Todays shopper Is a bargain shopper. Looking for the best bang for buck wherever possible. Payless couldnt discount prices any lower.
Having such a strong presence in all of these malls, surrounded by empty and abandoned store fronts sure did not boost the image of this company. Also, the rents on these thousands of locations must have cost an astronomical amount. Seriously, do a search for dead malls here on You Tube - pretty much every one has (or had) a Payless...

Another victim of the retail apocalypse. There is no way in hell every single retailer will close because people will want to go somewhere to shop. So far, it looks like the winners are Target and Wal-Mart. I can't see either of them liquidating.

Well this company upper management was so bad they never gave employment opportunities to minority’s (in my case blacks) I worked there for 6 years and glad I left....I. the end Yah had the last day so :)
