Someone criticized the taxidermist's argument as they felt it belittled and didn't validate Badii's experience. But really how helpful is it to validate the experience of someone who's suicidal? Is realizing that someone cares for what they're going through going to keep them holding on? I believe those who are suicidal are not looking to be understood but rather are looking to understand or re-understand crucial relationships. One of the many things I love about this movie is how pivotal I think it was that Badii spoke with the soldier and was able to reminisce and be animated in the nostalgia of his days in the army. I think the past is so important in order that we hold on to the future
One thing to notice is how director shows different phases of life through these 3 characters. 1st : Being a young boy soldier ran ways, as he doesn't have much experience in life. He don't want to think too much and wants to run away for complications of life...and in last he just ran. 2nd : In this phase, a person generally try to find answers and use his brain for logics behind actions, which the seminarist did, in the path of trying to be a responsible and mature person ...he did its best to not get intimidated and nervous...he listened and gave his views. 3rd: that's the last stage of life, where a person have seen almost all high and lows and he is wise enough to see things rationally. It's a phase where u know u can't control anything, u can try and if it not changing, you just have to accept it the way it is. The old man tried to make him change its decision but in last he just accepted the task and gave the protagonist some relief. Also point to notice is ...how our protagonist gave respect to the old man by not arguing with him, he listened patiently as if he will change his mind.
Your explanation made me cry bother, beautiful. Also after having the conversation with the old man he returns back to him and asks to throw stones and shake his shoulder to check if he is still alive or not which shows that Mr. Badi had got few motivations and meanings to live yet he was confused and not sure. He watches the children, the sunset and the couple which showed him that there are things to be happy upon.
I can totally relate to what you are saying. Iranian Movies has this ability to touch you deeply with their simplistic representation of life. It really force you to think. 🙏
There is beauty in the way you have taken the viewer through the highlights of the movie, intriguing the mind to watch the full movie. Liked the snippets, analysis & the interpretation of the movie, very precise & complete.
Long shots (also commonly called Wide shots) show the subject from a distance, emphasizing place and location, while Close shots reveal details of the subject and highlight emotions of a character.

Don't validate but don't counter either.
