Why? They were earning twenty times that amount before streaming services that an anourmous amount of people pay, but because those contracts are too new, that income is funneled to higher administrative jobs, not to those people who produced the value of the content. They deserve contracts that pays for adequate royalties. At least ten times that.

Production companies are already doing this and taking all the risk. Most often the studios only contribution to a project is distribution. The contracts with these unions has expired and both unions have tried to renegotiate. The studios are doing exactly the same thing to the writers and actors as they did to musicians years ago. Now the vast majority of musicians can’t make living. You no longer have freedom choice in the music you listen to. Instead the industry decides what bands make it to the top of your Apple Music and Spotify playlists. Instead of the traditional methods of artists touring to gain a fan base. Be careful, the outcome of this strike will set the stage for other labor disputes and AI is coming for everyone’s jobs.
This isn't their actual pay though. These are royalties. The one with all the small royalties from episodes was from a show that ended over 5 years ago. They got paid more at that time. Expecting a lot more money years later for something that isn't even still running would be like a plummer calling you and saying you should pay them for fixing your sink 3 years ago. Yea, you paid the plummer then, but you're still using that sink. Yes, I agree that many SAG actors are underpaid, but they should be showing their initial checks to make that point. Not a royalties check 5 years after their work.
You aren’t thinking about this rationally. Residuals are profit sharing. They make money if the movie or show is played somewhere. They aren’t making money off of shows that aren’t being watched. So if the show they were on five years ago is still being watched why shouldn’t they be sharing in the profits of their hard work. What is the corporations contribution to the ongoing success of the product that they should get 100% of that money. Residuals give actors who can go months or years without a new project a safety net. While studio executives make millions off their work, plus multimillion dollar bonuses.
@@Kenzalina_i agree with you on some points but I get why some of these cheques are low.The CEOs are getting paid from hundreds of shows and movies each year.Where as hundreds or thousands of actors get from one project. The main actor gets more than the supporting characters or extras.if we take the 50 million from the CEO and divided it among the actors and crew not everyone will get the same amount. @@jaceylfe That’s the problem with streaming services they don’t. If the show is syndicated on traditional networks the the writers and actors continue to get paid, the same goes for in flight films and television. For example Friends is distributed through NBC Universal and the current CEO did absolutely nothing to contribute to the success of that show. Obviously residuals will vary based on the importance of the writer and actor to the success of any individual project. However, it’s not just the CEO’s who are benefiting from the residuals being stolen from the actual creators. It’s all of the current C level executives, including creative executives and the current investors. Who once again did nothing to earn that money almost thirty years ago. Unless you can find a good reason why people who have done absolutely nothing to benefit off of the work of people that are actually the reason people are still watching those shows. You really haven’t made a strong argument against why you think the writer and actors shouldn’t be striking. With streaming it gives the networks the ability to make money off of properties that have been money makers for decades. With zero continuing investment. You could argue that six top cast members have made a fortune which is true. However, there are numerous smaller actors who have guest starred that rely on that money in between gigs. But at the same time there are people who are collecting royalties from music and books that other people produce, just because they inherited the rights. The job of an actor is to pretend to be someone else. They are our court jesters. In the theater of life, the accomplishments by those in medicine, engineering, and other noble professions are infinitely more important. Most of us only get paid once per job, even if whatever work we do extends into a later time. If an artist paints a picture, they don’t get paid every time someone looks at it. If an engineer designs and workers build a bridge, they don’t get paid again every time someone uses the bridge.
Artists actually do make money when their paintings are sold on the secondary market. Galleries make 50% the first time a painting is sold. The artist if they are still alive or work isn’t public domain own the copyright to the image not the owner and can continue to make prints from it. Like wise if the original is sold again on the secondary market. The owner is only entitled to 50% of the original value in the artist’s lifetime. The artist is entitled to 40% and the dealer is only entitled to 10%. The other things you mentioned don’t continue to make money. Where as films and television do. Take friends for example, it’s not only syndicated but is on streaming and still very popular. No one currently at NBC who makes money off of the royalties had anything to do with the success of that show. There have been multiple CEO’s of NBC Universal since that show went off of the air. The cast and writers however are the ones who created the show. Why should people who did nothing to contribute to that show make all of the profits almost 30 years later?
Think of how much better every aspect of life could be if this wasn't always the case. 95% of everyone's blood sweat and tears are always embezzled and wasted. I know some people are defending these CEOs because of "how much money" they invest. These people have insurance against projects that don't go well, granted that's if the project doesn't make it out of production, but they still have fall backs in case things don't go like they want. Actors and writers get none of that security with their jobs. I know, I was an actor in LA for years...its tough as hell

Kimiko Glen? The voice of Peni Parker?
I had no idea she was Peni Parker I'm just now finding this out even though I watched into the spider-verse many years ago
Shame on this I got a check for 1.45 $ cents
Capitalism at it's Absolute Worst...CEO's make Billions doing nothing. While Actors & Writers who actually do the Hardwork make crumbs in comparison.
Think of how much better every aspect of life could be if this wasn't always the case. 95% of everyone's blood sweat and tears are always embezzled and wasted. That's why so many die old, alone, and in poverty even after busting ass for 30-50 years, because some guy in a suit needs to throw it at young girls and sniff it up his nose.
Robbin Peter 2 Pay Paul 🤔🤔🤔
They can all go away
To think every movie and tv show over the last 5 years has been utter garbage. You deserve that terrible pay.
I couldnt care less.
"Residuals are a bonus."
Ok maybe so...but do you know how pissed I would be to find out my "bonus" is enough to maybe fill a little over a quarter of my gas tank?
Other people don’t make residuals from their job, so why should we care about writers and actors?
Because the nature of their work isn’t normal. They have to fight for roles against countless other people. Residuals and royalties can help a lot. Tell me what the fuck a CEO does to deserve multiple millions while they scrape Pennie’s from their struggling workers.
Actors and writer make the entertainment happen. As do the rest of the crew. You want to be entertained? Support those workers.
@@ichigokage Just like me, they get salaries for the job. When I start getting residuals, I will start caring. Until then? Nope.
So, what’s new?
I know some people are defending these CEOs because of "how much money" they invest. These people have insurance against projects that don't go well, granted that's if the project doesn't make it out of production, but they still have fall backs in case things don't go like they want. Actors and writers get none of that security with their jobs. I know, I was an actor in LA for years...its tough as hell
What happend to him who is he
This is like the fry cook at McDonald's complaining the district manager makes more than them lol
Capitalism duh
I don't believe it, in my 8 hour job I get paid that much
If all YTber know they will not try to become actors anymore
Don’t forget how happy you were to get the part.
Break the unions now.
Wait i thought kevin was ceo
+theghostmaker45
Kevin who?
Kevin is CEO of Marvel Studios. They're showing the CEO of Disney. Disney owns Marvel.
@@thealjohnsonshow2188 fugey fugie
Serves them right. They've annoyed people with their preaching to the point that no one wants to watch them anymore anyway.
I’m baffled as to how this is possible. Do writers sign contracts? My brain cannot understand this lol how’s do you get screwed this horribly by hidden wording in contracts? Don’t states have a minimum wage if no contract like what damn deal did you make to work for a company that is paying literally pennies. Strike hell I’d quit and write a book lmao. Expose everything then talk about all the shady shit.
The amounts mentioned aren't their salaries, but residual income. Residual as in "extra". How much residual income do you receive?
@@sgtm7 How much money do the projects YOU worked on continue make decades after YOU made them? Why should people who did nothing to contribute the ongoing success of a project YOU worked on make more than YOU? Just because they are current executive of the studio that initially made said project. Residuals aren’t a bonus they profit sharing for creators.
@@Kenzalina_ All the projects I have worked on continue to make money decades after I worked on them. Next question.
@@sgtm7 then it sounds like you should unionize to be able to profit share. Or start your own company to make your work isn’t profiting a CEO who is making money off you and your fellow employees hard work. Just because others work in a business model that traditionally allows profit sharing and is unionized doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to see those profits. You never responded to my other questions which is why think that CEO’s who had nothing to do with these projects outside of hosting them on a app deserve to make all the money from those projects? Are against workers rights?
@@Kenzalina_ No union, but we have profit sharing. However the profit sharing is a percentage of our salary, not a percent of the actual profit. No thanks, don't want a union. Union dues are an extra tax, and I don't like the taxes I already pay. I keep taxes as low as I can. Which is why I have been working overseas for the last sixteen years.
They probably earn enough they just decide they need to live in LA and it costs too much. Not the fault of anybody but their own. Be better you’d earn better. And the people they’re showing are having secondary parts in animated tv shows. Not many people watch that shit. And they’re only showing royalties which is not their pay. They’re trying to make it seem like they only get that the whole year when it’s just how much they make when somebody buys the show
And now please release what they got payed for the gig themself :)
Well I don't know that name or actor so makes sense they get paid nothing and the ppl who IMPLOY them get payed more
If u dont like the pay get a better job. Or get better at it.
You either go after the money or you go after what you like.
Thats extremely freaking stupid and it is how greedy CEOs get away with this bullcrap. Theres obviously some corruption going on in this industry
Lol. Learn to code
@@mrpants5462
Writing code would be really good for those who dont mind sitting at a computer. Basically writing a novel in a foreign language
@@zachcarter3186 And you believe that AI isn’t already taking over coding jobs? Coders will be the first people to go.
@@Kenzalina_
Can always code your own app...
Or get ai to do it .
Just cause u dont do it dont mean u cant sell it bud
Weird take, actors are overpaid
Sharping the residuals but they don’t share how much they got paid to do the job which I guarantee was a shit load more than what they’re showing. This is been going on for years with the CEOs of these different companies possibly these writers and actors actually wearing good shows they probably get better residuals but all that’s put out today is crap
I mean, they are running almost billionaire companies, so it kind of makes sense. Show us how much the A actors' paychecks, how much they make. "Started from the bottom". Yall know the rest.
OH WELL THEY SOLD THIER SOULS FOR IT TOO! I WOULDN’T ENVY THEM THEIR ACCORDING TO THEIR DEMONIC POSSESSION OF A LIFE END WILL BE ABOUT PAYBACK
TO HIM THAT HAS THEIR SOULS FOR PAYUP
MAYBE IF THEIR LUCKY THEY WILL SEEK GOD AND FREEDOM FROM THE BLACKNESS IN THEIR HEART THAT RULES THEM
Let me just get out the world's smallest violin. 🎻🎻🎻
They can just quit and get another job though. Nope they work for that just to whine lol. It's not like Disney holding you hostage
