Been looking at cold air intake videos on here and you are the only one who gets straight to the point! Thankyou! Am heading over to wish...............
Yeah I just wanted to see if I could free a lot of the air restriction and make something myself. I’ve added ducting to direct cold air to the filter since this video.
Thank you Michael I thought I had wasted $400 after I accidentally ordered $400 forge intake not realizing it was for European spec cars not us cars now I have hope
honesly i would say just flip the plastic piece and have the intake piping and the filter facing the front of the grill so it can get some cooler air in.
@@bobbik do not buy this ever, I brought a punto Abarth with this same filter, took it off and blew a air compressor through the filter and you can feel about 1% of the air coming through
Thanks for the great video. I am planning to do something similar. Can you share the size of the hoses, the T's used and the connection that you drilled into the original intake? Maybe you could put all the itens in the description. Best regards.
Hey, I am looking to buy one of these por a BMW 120i, and, being a total newbie, I was wondering, what is that blue hose for? I saw you plugged it into the AOS (?
Yeah so the Air oil separator recycles the oil and sends the air back into the intake. So that hose directs the air through the air flow sensor and back into the intake. A lot of guys just put a filter on the aos but I wasn’t sure if I’d get a check engine for the airflow sensor, so I just ran it how it would work stock.
@@MichaelBoggess You shouldn't get a check engine light BUT you COULD fail an emissions test "Visually" if you put filters on instead of the rubber tube. Sadly that Oil Air going back into the Intake is hot. It's just an Emissions thing.
I'm so glad I found your video. This helped a lot with ideas for intakes on my 500T The re-routing of the hoses is where I'm stuck. Did you have a reference you used?
Are you still running this? And have you encountered any issues with it? I have a 500t that's getting a new down pipe an upgrade from the literal pony keg that was stock and have been looking for an intake. I can justify spending 200 on a down pipe but 200 on an intake is just ridiculous when 90%of them are exactly what you did with prettier hoses. Thanks for the video.
Yeah I actually am haha. I’ll be changing it soon due to buying a front mount intercooler but it has been working great. If you do it, just take the time everyone once in a while to check to make sure the filter is clean and there are no leaks.
Kickers and Stickers thank you! Much appreciated. Every Monday I have something out and 99% of the time it’s my car haha. I might be giving away my intake depending on what I do after the intercooler so stay posted!
@ i don't see how you would be losing power from a larger better intake. The 500 suffers terribly from heat soak and moving the intake to the top or the very back of the engine bay is the most logical place due to the turbo being right at the front.
Blow off valve, or diverter valve provides the air release that sounds like that. If you want a cheap option you can get a spacer that goes in between the stock BOV and turbo
That is so bad your Air Intake is way back no cold air its going to suck all heat from hot engine (Hot Air) making your car slower and struggle on hot day
I don’t plan on keeping it in the long run. It was more of me seeing if I could do it. Also, the stock air box is directly above the motor and much more congested compared to this, so in reality it’s still a better option, but I see where you’re coming from. I plan on a fenderwell intake in the future in order to avoid all of this entirely. Thanks for the comment!
@A But a more Restrictive airbox with slightly less hot air can be just as bad though, if not worse. He can put a custom heat shield too ya know. Btw the stock airbox is RIGHT on TOP of the engine while his new intake is a little bit farther away with easier air suction so... all around as good if not better
I just wanted to see if I could be successful in making my own intake that wouldn’t throw a check engine and it worked! I didn’t plan on keeping this design at all haha. I’m moving it to the fenderwell after I get a front mount intercooler. It’s in the same spot as stock so I have no complaints. Plus it sounds way cooler than it would stock lol
Nice idea Dumb decision lol It is too close to the engine bay and jt only changes the sound Maybe with a hood scoop or something it can suck cold air and perform better I saw some intakes that go to the front grill
I noticed that too. It's not a dumb decision, It's just poor design placement is all as the stock box gets just as hot where it's at. Now making a Hood Scoop (which isnt that cheap) for a car that doesn't come with it 'Would Be' a Dumb decision as it's too much Mod for something so little benefit. For the intake itself, if the pipe was extended to be further away from the engine, then yes it could work a bit better. But Hey! If it gives the slightest increase to throttle response As Is at $20... that's not a bad deal.
It recycles the compressed air after the turbo, back into the intake while you’re on the throttle, when you let off it still releases pressure. If the car made more power it would be more effective in holding boost than a blow off valve
You seem to be creative guy. I prefer spending more money on a reliable airfilter as k&n have oil treated filters preventing small particles (or most of them) to get in the engine. As I said, you are creative guy but whycin the hell would you place the intake at the back of the enginebay taking in all of the engine heat? :/ It does look like this tiny car doesn't have alot of space but then I would have kept the stock one. Or do spend money on an induction kit.
Thanks I appreciate it! And it was just a test to see if I could make something and I ended up keeping it for longer than I intended. I’m going to reroute it in the fender after I get a new intercooler. And as far as the filter goes, I just make sure to clean and wax it when I change oil every 3k miles
@K Mods On a Car that is forced induction... Just due to the fact that the stock box is already so restrictive, (Hence the lack of throttle response) this current mod still benefits as it will make it easier for the turbo to spool as the air will naturally suck in easier. Now on a non-turbo car, you are on to something, BUT it's not like the intake filter is Directly touching the engine. Their really is NO perfect cold placement under the hood of a car in general. The Best placement (while rediculous) would be removing a headlight and letting it stick out.
The 2015 Airbox system seems waaay more complicated than my 2014 abarth - I only have to mess with the AOS line. You had like 3 extra things on the stock box to deal with ! Tks for this idea! I had an Abarth ram intake from Ebay, but the filter was just too small and caused restriction. I kept looking at Abarth specific stuff, but you made that generic work great. Now I just need to find a small filter to fit on the AOS.
Been looking at cold air intake videos on here and you are the only one who gets straight to the point! Thankyou! Am heading over to wish...............
Thank you!
The problem with this setup is that the new cold air intake is actually going to be intaking hot air based on the position of the air filter.
Yeah I just wanted to see if I could free a lot of the air restriction and make something myself. I’ve added ducting to direct cold air to the filter since this video.
Great point, but that is the same as all short ram air intakes.
Pros and cons.
But it’s not metered and what’s the difference once it’s going through the hot turbo and through the intercooler?

Awesome. Would this work on a 2004 chevy tahoe without the heat shield? 🤔
Most likely, you wouldn’t need to drill a hole anywhere in the current intake system because the wish intake is made for a naturally aspirated motor.
@@MichaelBoggess thanks. You are the best 👌
