A nice first reaction! Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. She entered and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" Not only that, but she received the copyrights for her version of this song from Queen, which makes it hers now. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity.
Now 17 years old, living in Los Angeles, and is signed with Republic Records, whose clients include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake to name a few. Her family and Republic Records have agreed not to heavily promote her just yet so she can live as normal of a life as possible and finish her schooling. She is working on a new album of original music which will be coming out this year. She recently returned back to Norway and performed at a number of sold out concerts in which fans from around the world came to see her. Many of the fans there said she sounded better live in person and was a once in a lifetime experience.
Her fans call her The Barefoot Princess. She always performs with no shoes when she sings. Why? The reason is very special. When she was 6 years old, she was traveling with her family in Iran where she met a shoeless homeless girl in the streets that was about her age. She made money by weighing people. After speaking with her for a few minutes, Angelina noticed the scars on the girl's feet and asked the girl what her dream is. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor but she couldn't because she had to make money for her family. Angelina did what came natural to her, she gave the little girl her shoes and told her to not give up on her dreams. Since then, Angelina has performed barefoot in honor of that little girl and to those who are less fortunate around the world. She keeps this promise to this day. One of the reasons why we love her so much!

Congrats! You stumbled upon the greatest jazz singer of our time! Angelina was 9 years and 2 month old when she arranged and recorded this song. Meanwhile she is 17 years old, signed with Republic Records and will drop her first album on that label soon.

A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice.
She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. In this video did you notice:Angelina finishing some notes and handing them to the pianist, who smiled as he read them? They were her wishes (instructions) to the band how she wished therm to play the music. In the band, she was called a boss.

Thank you for discovering my favourite singer, Angelina Jordan, I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on TH-cam, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. If it had been a "one-off" I would have thought she she was acting out the part, but she does it every time. It has been commented that she when she reads the lyrics of a song, she intuitively understands their emotional contents and knows how to release those emotions in her performance. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener.
Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below,
    (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
    (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
    (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
    (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
    (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
    (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted.
    (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song.
    (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time.
    (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word
    (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
    (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
    (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella!
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

SO EXCITED YOU FOUND ANGELINA!! I'm 59 years old and Angelina Jordan and Ren (Gill) are the only two artists I would travel anywhere I could in the world to see them perform. These are once in a lifetime musical geniuses, and you will be amazed and delighted to travel down their two respective, and very unique, rabbit holes. Buckle up and enjoy the rides!! Angelina: her cover of Bohemian Rhapsody on AGT, her original song Shield, & one of her most recent: cover of Elvis Presley's Suspicious Minds. Ren: pretty much anything he does is hard to fathom, love the Hunger, Genesis, Money Game (parts 1 & 2), w/Sam Tompkins Blind Eyed (MC sessions), lots of stuff with Chinchilla, etc. You are going to absolutely LOVE both of these artists!!

I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point.
Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! And she is just 17 years old... That is unfathomable. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her.

You just watched a Masterpiece! Destined to go down in Music History as the best performance by a 9 yr old, Period! Past, present & dare I say Future! I'd like to see anyone, young or old who can do a cover of this & with the justice it deserves as Angelina has done on every cover she does. ♥👣👸🏻

Yeah, Angelina made history here. Suffice to say, she "understands" music at a deep level. Great reaction to a vocal tour-de-force! You've done it now. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (160+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice!
If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or a 40-piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come.
Why God has performed the miracle of touching the world with one of such talent, musical IQ, commitment, and generosity as Angelina we can wonder but we must all marvel. Welcome aboard the AJ train! Please react to more of her impressive library.
It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). Genius: Exceptional intellectual or creative power, the greatest musical genius of our time is Angelina Jordan. Can one be hypnotized by sound? Shamans use rhythmic drumming and chanting to achieve control over a mind. Angelina's is unique in that she has the ability to create audios that trigger your brains "frequency following response". She has the ability to create a euphoric addiction to her total being similar to drugs, but without the side effects, she is in fact, like nothing I have ever experienced in the past, or more than likely to in the future. Extraterrestrials, If you have ever questioned whether there are extraterrestrials among us, you now know it to be true, it is the only explanation for this being, Angelina Jordan.

To answer your question about Angelina’s soulfulness, Angelina’s deceased grandfather seems to have been particularly sympathetic toward underprivileged people, taking Angelina out to help street people from a young age. Perhaps others in her family behave similarly. Besides or in addition to this, Angelina seems to be an empath. Also, she appears to have the ability to not only meticulously recreate the sounds of the past vocalists she studies, but she appears able to mimic with her vocals the emotions they experienced. She is so attuned with the lyrics, can access a wide library of previously heard vocals, and has such vocal control, that she can apply them with such ease that it appears effortless and perfectly suited to the song.

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with the same band at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and gives them some instructions. Well mimicking and acting aren't bad words or anything, more depends how you mean. She does a lot of impossible things in this performance. Some of it is techniques she'll never use again, doesn't need too, her voice is more mature now. Her creativity and control to do unorthodox things to get the sounds she wants is insane for a 9 year old. No bad habits formed, always exploring and finding her voice and adjusting as she goes so fluidly.
She also isn't alone responsible for the arrangement. She alone is credited, generally, doesn't mean it isn't a group effort, it just means she is the boss and has final say. She could be alone responsible for the arrangement sure, but not a claim we can make or an assumption anyone should make. We've seen her at work, and it's always a group effort in which everyone seems to take and give direction with no issues. She's a genius no doubt, prodigy, so without question praise for those around her takes nothing away from her. Saying she alone is responsible feels wrong to me.
But indeed the empath part, the emotional intelligence, the ability to identify and feel emotions to a greater extent. I assume that is exactly why the kid can portray pretty much any emotion and lay it on super thick. She can see desperation, or loneliness, vulnerability, sadness. So I mean who needs lyrics at all at that point when she can see and feel what the performers she studies are feeling in their performances. That and she wants this real bad, she digs really really deep for her vocals which always helps in that way, adding both depth and emotion to her vocals.

You just "watched" a child Prodigy.. she arranged this and her others as well... She's been singing since 1 1/2.. Trying to unravel the WHY is going to get you ALL KINDS of theories... It's a God given talent.. it's best to appreciate what you hear, and let yourself be captivated... Angelina isn't a singer .. she's an ARTIST... She grew up listening to jazz, but she already revealed a special gift.. here she just gets it. She jumps into the performance with the totality of her skills, her passion IS MUSIC, it's a great relationship coupled with that voice.
I'd stop asking "how did" and focus on WHAT she is able to accomplish with a mastery of interpreting lyrics, abilities that boggle the mind, a vast accomplished use of breathing, phrasing and vocal ornaments.
You didn't cry with this "child"...
Maybe too much to absorb in one sitting... Maybe we'll see you on the flipside... PEACE

AJ recorded her arrangement of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' song a year after winning Norway's Got Talent (age 8). During the intro, you see her with her Grandmother and giving changes to her arrangement to the music director. Jay's image was on the candle and you can see the bone in his nose that was a part of his original performance, an early shock rock performance which was highly theatrical. AJ took the song and changed it into a highly emotional performance which may have been more in line with Jay's original intent (he and the band were drunk during the original studio session and got carried away but decided to keep it in).

Cognitive dissonance is common the first time watching this since what we see is not matching what we hear. You mentioned you weep at times when kids do marvelous things. If you choose to experience the Angelina Wonderland of musical discovery, you will weep often. Many of us do. Learning very early from Billie Holiday and many others how to tell a passionate story, no one tells a story like AJ or includes as much passion. She's 17 now but her first international exposure was when she won Norway's Got Talent after entering at 7, singing jazz and blues, her vocal foundation. Good reaction.

Angelina was 9 here, but is 17 now. She has always had soul, wherever it comes from, and it easily seen from age 6 on up through today, 17. In spite of her obvious youth, she seems to have an affinity for older people (me, in spades) and music that goes even further back than my birth year. You will never be disappointed if you follow this beautiful creature and her music all the way back to age 6 when she first started captivating hearts. But first enjoy her early years. I'm not sure anyone's childhood was ever so beautiful or could bring as much joy to people's hearts.

Thank you for a professional and genuine reaction. Your commentary was right on and I can tell you really get Angelina. There is a very deep rabbit hole here! What you have just witnessed is the finest recording ever of a 9-year-old vocal performance. I don't think it will be matched in my lifetime. Norwegian born Angelina Jordan began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only 8, singing old time classics from Billie Holliday and George Gershwin, and became the youngest ever vocalist to win an international Got Talent Show! Her performance at 9 years old of Screamin Jay Hawkins, I Put a Spell on You is considered one of the finest recordings ever of a 9-year-old vocalist! Angelina also went viral on America's Got Talent the champions in 2020 with her unique versions of Bohemian Rhapsody and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Angelina sings in English which unbelievably is her third language! She is a true prodigy.
She is now 17, and has recorded a huge library of songs, including covers and several originals. A major attraction to Angelina's music is the emotion and attitude she conveys, although she has not experienced the life events! She is known as the barefoot princess of 1,000 voices as she can adjust her tone, style, and register for any song or genre. She was signed by Republic Records almost two years ago. She is not widely promoted yet, however, as her family decided to wait until she graduates school this year, so she could have a normal childhood.
Here is a link from ages 6 to 17 of over 100 Angelina chronological TH-cam performances with five originals.

Why does Angelina sing barefoot? The answer may bring a tear to your eye. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Angelina ask the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said a doctor, but she could not because she had to take care of her siblings. She asked Angelina the same question and Angelina said I want to sing for the world. The young girl said she would pray for Angelina. Since then, Angelia has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She even donated her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond.
Angelina captures hearts because she is humble and has compassion for humanity. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world and spread love and peace. I trust this will cause you to embrace her as millions of others have, and that you will continue down the rabbit hole from which you will not want to escape. Peace and love.

Angelina, in my opinion, is the only one who was truly born to sing, since she began at 18 months old and was more vocally advanced than any other for a given age. She was around her 9th birthday when she created this arrangement and delivered a powerful performance.
Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina Jordan and her music, inspire many people to improve the quality of their lives, making themselves more capable to help others.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on TH-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
    *Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are.
Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial
Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
Musicians working with Angelina would call her the boss since she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song and would confidently instruct the musicians. While one could say Angelina was mimicking other artists, there is no doubt she had her own style and created her own arrangements, even at this early age.
Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition to trim the number of vocalists who passed their audition, and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. The vast majority of the prize money was donated to charity benefitting poor children.
Record company executives flew their private jets to Norway to attempt to sign 8 year old Angelina but all were thankfully rebuked. Disney also made an offer but not accepted.
In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration.
Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore and Mexico among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14.
At age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. The album can be purchased on iTunes or Amazon.
On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year.
During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each.
In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter and allowed Angelina to copyright her version. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT which would give Simon any control over her career.
Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on TH-cam. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On TH-cam, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video.
The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her.
During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles.
In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one.

Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield”
In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song.
Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022.
In December 2022, Angelina performed at the Asian American Awards in Los Angeles.
Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be.
I encourage others to use this biography to help educate others about the love, empathy, magic and beauty that is Angelina Jordan Astar and her unique music.

Angelina has a role model in her grandmother who is an experienced jazz singer herself. And she is supporting Angelina in every way she can till this very day. Since Angelina was just 1,5 years she has listened to jazz/blues music constantly so she knows very well what is going on, even at 9 years of age. And she loves this genre. Angelina pulls every trick she knew back then out off her vocal registers. It is funny and at the same time impressive to see this. And that breath control.... out of this world.

    - Who is Angelina Jordan -
Angelina is a Norwegian born child prodigy in music. She's a singer/ songwriter who's arranged over 180 covers and 5 originals, all since the age of 7. Angelina began singing at 18 months old. At 2, she began teaching herself how to sing, focusing primarily on the jazz masters of decades gone by. These are artists such as Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Etta James. She's also influenced by Amy Winehouse, Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, and Adele, to name a few. She's also been said to be the girl of 1,000 voices. Yet even though we can hear the phrasing and style she puts in the songs, it's always Angelina that we hear.
At 7 years old, she auditioned for Norway's Got Talent. She was the last to audition. The judges had no idea who she was or what she could do. They saw a diminutive mussy haired, barefooted girl with her teeth still growing in. For her audition, she performed "Gloomy Sunday" from Billie Holiday. On TV-2, they've reported over 14 million views of this performance. This does not take into account the many hundreds of reactors showing this audition to millions more.
Needless to say, Angelina went on to win the 2014 season of NGT shortly after her 8th birthday. The family was bombarded with requests for performances, interviews, and record label offers. They turned down 90% of the requests, as they insisted that Angelina should enjoy a normal childhood.
That didn't stop Angelina from performing at select engagements around the world, singing for Heads of State, and even Barack Obama. She's spent time and worked with musicians such as Quincy Jones and Alan Walker. She first appeared on American television, The View, at 8 years old.
Angelina auditioned for America's Got Talent The Champions at 13 years old. She made it just up to the final selection of the final 5 when she dropped from the competition. It wasn't that she wasn't good enough to be in the final 5, but it was because she refused to sign with an AGT affiliated label, should she win. She knew very well what production hungry labels could do to her music. She even turned down Disney.
At 14, Angelina signed with Republic Records. Republic gave her complete artistic control as well as control over the performances she would make. Angelina is now 16 and lives in LA. She turned 17 on January 10, 2023, and will graduate from high school after the spring semester. From then on, she will embark on her full-time professional career. She's been working closely with Republic on her first album under their label. It's likely that it will drop shortly after her graduation.

Subbed for more Angelina 💗💗💗 I think it's both; that soul was in her from an early age, she's an empath, but studying all the classics for years helped her to develop the vocal toolset necessary to actually express that soul musically, if that makes sense. I'm convinced there are people with just as much soul who can't sing at all, they might be painters or artists or just ordinary people - and there are other singers who have mastered their vocal technique and styles as well or even more than Angelina, but aren't able to convey as much emotion because they lack that soul...

Maybe this sounds crazy, but this is the way I'm explaining Angelina Jordan to myself these days. I think we underestimate the depth of emotions that children experience. You are never so terrified as you are as a child...mostly because you're come to realize with time that most of the stuff that was terrifying before really isn't so scary. (I think the scaredest I ever got was when I was 3: during several scenes in the The Wizard of Oz--witches, flying monkeys, etc.) You also never experience unadulterated joy as you do as child. Pick an emotion (jealousy, compassion, rage, unequivocal love) and a child feels it much more intensely than anyone else. But they can't express that feeling in a work of art (at least most of them can't). They have no way to communicate them artfully, no words, pictures, songs, dances, plays.
When Angelina Jordan expresses those emotions, I have no doubt that she's felt them herself. So she has ready emotional fuel for this song or any other, contemporary or historic. And she projects it through the lyrics and music of the song and through previous, famous performances she's heard and studied. Her voice, here at 9, belongs in the line of interpreters of this song since it was written, some of them among the greatest of all time. How did she come up with that kind of mastery of those vocal effects, so intimately tied to the lyrics and music as to be inextricable? And then sing it so intensely (in a version she apparently came up with herself), with all the flavors and shadows and sound shading bent in the same direction? When I see her sing at 9 or 7 or 10 (dial up her Feelin' Good, for example), I see her as an artist, like the young Picasso, making art. That's what's so rare.

    Hi Wolf,
even if you already got some comments with good information allow me sending you my "standard firsties comment" (SFC) - maybe you can find some for you new information in it ;-)
So, here is my SFC (a wee bit personalized):
Welcome to the universe of Angelina Jordan and thanks a billion for this nice reaction to her - I'm sure to hear more reactions to her from you! ...because it is...
    ...too late!
From now on you are assimilated in Angelina's entourage! Resistance is futile...
Even if you won't believe it and if you are in denial about it: Only listen to one song sung by Angelina Jordan and you are hooked on listening her voice! Maybe you aren't aware of it yet... a legend says in rare cases there are humans who can resist.... but I can't believe it ;-)
Every time it's a pleasure to watch people reacting to Angelina Jordan - especially when it is the first time - and I hope to see more of your reactions on Angelina Jordan... ;-)
    A little explanation:
Her cover "I put a spell on you" b/w studio version at 9yo (th-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/w-d-xo.html - btw. she made most of her cover arrangements by herself!) based on the original from Screemin' Jay Hawkins (from 1956) - Live: th-cam.com/video/7kGPhpvqtOc/w-d-xo.html
or another version of it: th-cam.com/video/orNpH6iyokI/w-d-xo.html
and here a version from 1990 in Tokyo - I feel, this is like the version Angelina has taken as the model, but I don't know it ( ;-) ): th-cam.com/video/Bb9ag8bch_U/w-d-xo.html
    or as Audio-Studio-Version: th-cam.com/video/82cdnAUvsw8/w-d-xo.html)
that's real fun - if you watch this too and may be after this watch Angelinas cover again you will find out that Angelinas cover is a real tribute to Jay Hawkins :-D
At the beginning you see her something writing on a sheet and a man reading it and smiles than.. in an interview this man, who was the "bandleader", said, this were some "wishes" from Angelina (she was every time very polite he said) for changes of her arrangement for the piano :)))
The candle you can see at about 0:12 shows a portrait of J. Hawkins - I think her grandma bought it at a concert in Tokyo ;)
At 0:26 you can see the bassist smiling - I can imagine that he smiles about the expectable reactions of the listeners in the moment, when Angelina starts to sing at 0:30 ;-)
Btw. I read somewhere that her grandma was in person at a concert of SJH in Japan (as she, AJs mother and uncle lived there some years - AJs grandpa is Japanese) and there AJs grandma bought this candle as a souvenir ;)
    ...I hope this story isn't a HOAX :))
Maybe you wonder, what videos you should next react to ;-) ...
Furthermore there is a big pile of over 170 videos on TH-cam with Angelina Jordans rehearsals, covers and originals... and each and every one is worth to listen and to react to - even the very early recordings when she was 6 yo!
She is born January 10th 2006 in Oslo/Norge (English is her 3rd language ;-) ), sung her first notes of a Whitney Houston song with 18 months (link see down), started researching the internet for Jazz 3 yo, entered Norske Talenter (Norwegian Got Talent) 7 yo and won it 8 yo, was on AGT The Champions (recorded Oct. 2019, aired Jan. 2020) where she didn't won - some rumours say because she/her mother didn't sign the contract with the enterprise of Simon Cowell for to stay independent - meanwhile she has signed with Republic Records (musicnorway.no/aktuelt/industry-talk-michael-astar ).
Btw. her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar, but in most occasions she is introduced as Angelina Jordan - she herself answered in the audition of Norske Talenter her name is "Angelina Jordan"… ;-)

and songs which are especially written for her:
    a. "Song for A": th-cam.com/video/Bo3mhxPM-uA/w-d-xo.html - (there is a discussion if "A" stands for Angelina, Annie - the woman in the lyrics - or both of them ;-) - the lyrics are from a poem from Robert Burns written in 1783 ! )
    b. "Above the water": th-cam.com/video/SC3F0bKKk3U/w-d-xo.html - interesting voice - even if EDM is not my preferred genre ;-)
... here her "mini concert" from AGT the Champions (Watch out: With these videos other reactors have the most problems with copyright claims...):
    "Bohemian Rhapsody": th-cam.com/video/7gQljxeaNuM/w-d-xo.html
    "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road": th-cam.com/video/NVRWYEk8T3A/w-d-xo.html

...and for those, who like to hear it with the audio from the rehearsal without the noise from the audience at the performance a version edited from pa1189j : th-cam.com/video/O6Jw-ETH1mA/w-d-xo.html
In the meanwhile there are some more live versions of her originals and some cover songs from her summer 2022 concerts like in Kurbadhagen... ;-)
Besides she is mostly making her very own arrangement there are some very interesting videos of her, where she uses the original arrangement or a big one of someone else like "I Have Nothing" (Whitney Houston Tribute) th-cam.com/video/eTcvvO6B3Io/w-d-xo.html or "Fly Me To The Moon" in the arrangement of Quincy Jones (rehearsal with concert mixed audio for his birthday party in the O2 arena): th-cam.com/video/OMkwoqUNNkE/w-d-xo.html .
And here is a video where it is explained (with English subtitles) why she performs barefoot: th-cam.com/video/A-OKLslO74Y/w-d-xo.html and here an Interview in the Norwegian TV (with English subtitles) from 2015 after she has published her book about the story why she is barefoot when performing: th-cam.com/video/-cCLDY0CSZ8/w-d-xo.html
In addition to school she got also vocal training at the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program (I read, that this school said, they couldn't teach her more stuff because she has all learned what she could learn in this school ;-) ) - and btw. she plays also grand piano, violin, flute and guitar, make her arrangements herself, wrote a book, sew clothes for herself (partly with art from her grandma like in her first AGT performance and in her music video "Shield").
So, she is a real all-rounder and I think all her fans are eager to see and hear what she is doing next...
All the other things like more recommendation, chronological playlists and so on you can read in the comments of the mega-fans like Fernando F., Rusty (AJ videos in chronological order th-cam.com/channels/55am_6Y5-Fj4ri8xOInstA.html), Andy Schnell, ...
Thanks a billion again for your reaction! … and see you soon with your next AJ reactions - with greetings from Berlin/Germany :-D Best regards
    Andreas

Perhaps she understands or perceived music in a different manner. It seems that she can capture the essence of the emotion of each and every song. Could it be that she can hear sadness or joy in the music, and then in turn be able to apply sad or joyful just like adding a vocal effect. Simply amazing.

She has been listening to the greatest blues singers since birth, so even though she can't possibly understand what she's actually singing she can channel that emotion because it is what she's always been hearing.

I think you're viewing a nurtured child. And a child who's seen the realities of life and has related to it.
I saw her a few years ago on a video and read her back story a bit more then. When I looked it up again just now, it kind of clicked, ah yes. One, she noted that she encountered a homeless girl and gave the homeless girl her shoes and vowed to never wear shoes when she performed. I.e. she was exposed to the harsh realities of life in an intimate confronting way that she related to personally and conveys in her expression, possibly this extends to her voice.
So, yes, she has felt and connected with suffering.
Also, she attended music schools were her voice was supported so it's possible there was a training element.
The third part, and the part I'm more leaning to, is that we all have this element and it doesn't get to express as we're distracted by schooling, and the responsibilities of being good children, following the path of fitting in or desperately trying to survive and developing coping skills 'we abandon ourselves'.
We now live in a time where there's children who are nurtured for their soul to be shared.
And there are others who are beaten out of fitting in (performing, having responsibilities, being a good citizen) over long periods of time (by significant suffering / challenge as they experienced ...), and outcasts to the point where they are just who they are, so then they share from their soul. This is the more familiar in terms of the 'they've been through it'.
    Thinking out loud...
Note. I think you'd also enjoy experiencing Stromae if you haven't already (from under the rock), the live performance of L'enfer was an experience in the French speaking world, it has subtitles you can turn on.

    - The Barefoot Princess -
(From her book, television and radio interviews, and podcasts made between 2014-2015. Includes excerpts from her diary made that day in 2012.)
Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz," amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them.
Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true, you have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day, 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. Right then and there, I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.”
From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. In 2015, at the age of 9, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, as everyone continued to ask why she sang barefoot. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, created the artwork for the book. So at 9, Angelina Jordan became the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina has performed alongside many other artists, raising attention and helping to raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars for children in need.
