The idea of zombies remembering everything from their past lives is actually pretty terrifying. If you ever bullied someone who turned into a zombie or you abandoned them to be eaten by the horde they can and will come after you.
of course.. this goes the other way. if zombies can be sentient and chase down those they have a grudge on.. what if your friend got infected and you had tried to save them but failed and they were sentient, would they attack u or would zombie instincts kick in?
imagine zombie movies like Train to Busan with this zombie logic, also if the zombies retain their past memories then I'll basically choose to become one, plus the bully would get mad Karma in the example u put.

I absolutely love the smoothness of the animation, especially around 2:50-2:55. Considering his face when she was shot it seems he had some form of guilt for leaving her behind,
