I was lucky to catch Mind Game on Toonami when they switched to a Japanese layout for April Fool's day and let me tell ya, it was bizarre. At least Jojo was meant to be coherent plot-wise; Mind Game fought the laws of physics and won.
YES YOU DO!!! Watch "The tatami galaxy" and then "The night is short walk on girl" both amazing works by Masaaki Yuasa. "The tatami galaxy" being what got me hooked on this amazing director in the first place, and I'm so glad he's been getting more popular as we head into this year!
Imagine my surprise watching this vid to see that the movie "Mind Games"(which I watched on a heavy dose of LSD years ago) was made by the same guy who makes my current favorite anime(Eizouken). Mind literally blown
I'm so glad other people are appreciating Kanamori right off the bat. Even her character design in the intro was intriguing before actually digging into the anime; Tall, lanky, and an expression that seems perpetually annoyed at the world, but still goofing around with these more carefree-looking characters. And her personality fits so perfectly, once you do start watching. She'd like the production manager who's not afraid to twist arms to achieve goals. I half-hope she isn't overshadowed by Mizusaki and her endearing curiosity and devotion to animation. But I also hope all the characters receive their due recognition. They're all great.
Ping Pong the Animation is one of the most underrated anime of all time. In so few episodes you see such touching characterization. It's so heartwarming and makes you appreciate something you may have never cared about.
I've been a hardcore Yuasa fan since I was a young teen and it makes me SO happy to see his work finally gain the recognition it deserves! P.S. Go see Ride Your Wave in the cinema if you can, it's absolutely beautiful!
as someone's who's going to art school, this anime is exactly how it feels to look around for ideas and try to put on paper what you want other people to see, specially when you're working with your friends
Crazy animation changing how you experience a film/show is what I adore and that's why am weeby I will be doing some insane artwork projects with my friends till am dead and even beyond death am still going at it
I love this channel, so many amazing anime I'd have otherwise missed out on and I love how you can hear how passionate the hosts are about anime and manga. Can't wait for the next vid!
After watching Devilman Crybaby I became very interested in his work, I watched Kemonozume and loved it, so I'm glad to see something newer from him besides Devilman! I'll have to check this out!
Love this video. I've loved Tatami Galaxy for years and was delighted by Walk On Girl. Good to see someone giving them and their director the homage they deserve.
Well, guess I'll just have to watch, like, ten more movies and series now. Thanks for ruining (?) my free time, @Getintherobot! When will I ever get a break from anime?! And if Dorrie made make-up tutorials, I'd probably binge-watch that, too, in spite of not wearing any make-up (btw, your eyeliner is really perfect, today, Dorrie, please make make-up tutorials)
Awesome episode Dorrie about one of the greatest anime creatives in the modern age! Can't wait to see you cover more, I'm never familiar with alot of people by name in the industry but I love that you guys continue to highlight and show gratitude and praise for all the work and art these wonderful people have created. Much love and can't wait for the next video!!
Masaaki Yuasa is definitely one of mine top favorites anime directors within the anime industry along side with Shinichiro Watanabe. Cause there both not afraid of going outside the traditional box when it comes to animation or taking on different styles of genres in anime and doing something unique with them as a whole.
great vid, thanks for your work putting this one together, was already aware of many of yuasa's shows that i need to catch up on but now i'll have to add a couple more movies to the list. would very much like more videos like this one and hope you'll have a nice day dorrie :)
That was great! I love his style of over exaggerated but very specific way of telling a scene. His animations look so smooth. I wish more studios would focus less on polish and more on delivering better story and adventurous scenes like Yuasa and his teams do (I'm looking at you Boruto, who SOMETIMES gets it right.) I hope someone remakes or gets inspired to do some art based of of his works in Dreams (PS4.) Side note: nice outfit Dorrie. Pink eye-shadow, pink skirt, red hair, and red-ish nail polish really went well with the good old Get In The Robot Background All in all great video GTR team! Will watch more of Yuasa's work (up next Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!) Thank you!
If you have one word to describe Yuasa it's "POP". His visual direction always was pop, and it popped out from the crowd of generic looking shows and films. He also loves popping people, literally. Like Kaiba, it was really pop with the Tezuka and Akatsuka inspired design but also alot of people popped into yellow goo. And we got to see more of it in Devil Man Cry Baby, where every thing popped into yellow goo.
Dangit Dorrie, why you gotta be so energetically and darkly adorable? you give us a fresh and deatailed view on most of the anime I love. you would be my best anime of 2020 if someone had drawn you.
I honestly love Devilman Crybaby. Like it had such a beautiful ending and I was fascinated by how different the animation style was compared to other anime I've watched. Sure through the s*x and violence it was quite an interesting world which pained me when I finished the series. I heard about Keep your hands off Eizoken recently and I was considering watching it but after discovering it was by the same genius who adapted devilman it's reached top of my watchlist damn i be writing a whole paragraph.. here i can write a whole paragraph about anime by not about a poem from the 1800's
I found out about Yuasa after Lu over the wall. I saw a video of one of the musical numbers before the movie came out that they used for promotional footage and the music was so good I just HAD to watch it. Seriously, she's not kidding, if you're a fan of music, you NEED to watch Lu over the wall, the team's music is a driving plot point in the movie and all of the music is SO well done.
wait wait wait... you are telling that Masaaki Yuasa, who is the director of keep your hands off eizoken, which is currently like my favorite anime right now, also did shinchan the movie robot dad AND maruko chan, both are which like my FREAKING CHILDHOOD!!!! I am crying from nostalgia right now, he is the person i shall be loyal to throughout my life.
Best girl for me in Eizuken is [sic]Misuaki. She's like me, in a lot of ways. Highly imaginative, deeply skilled, kinda flightly. Also, redhead. I LURVE ME REDHEADS!
*whispers* dorrie I love you I know this is unrelated but I would personally love to see you talk more about higurashi and other visual novels by the same author!! The vn video you made is my favorite on the channel❤️
Jokes aside, yuasa does do an amazing job at animation and the beauty of abnormality, and I think in some cases this is also what anime is missing. Sure there’s a lot of good shows that are being produced that do deserve such attention and is very charismatic, but half of the times, there really are just some cheap animes that are created that tell the same story over again but in a different scenario or circumstance. What I’m trying to say is that anime shouldn’t be JUST a place raunchiness or terrible writing, but simply, an animation style to tell stories of imagination.
Devilman crybaby was the first anime i had ever watched of my own accord and i have been in love with the animation since. i reall love that free not polished feel that comes off these anime they forsome reason just are more intriguing and keep me interested
Actually I believe that the swimming pool bit is based off a real 4Cº (Or maybe production IG, don't remember) studio that was a repurposed swimming gym :)) So it's not really invented, it's real.
You could say the funny run animation is his staple since you've shown it both on Mind Game and Devilman Crybaby. One might call it the... Yuasa Run? You can get this one for free lol
Thank you for putting this guy's past work on the spotlight, some of my favorite animation ever and i'm with you on the why the hell every plot is based on an school ? Can anime teens ever go to college?
6:29 best shot ever! the lovely Dorrie talking about cannibalism with a cute lil smile on her face B^) not to mention how absolutely adorable she is with twin buns and a lil red nose
What's your favorite show from Yuasa?
Coming Soon to Get in the Robot🤖

Would you look at that... All the greatest anime.. Coming soon! I'm so here for it!!
Hamtaro...... NOW!
Haikyuu!!! Haikyuu!! ❤️❤️🏐🏐
Can't wait for demon slayer vids!

Me: not paying attention cause I’m distracted by her cute outfit/hair/makeup
No one:
2020 humans: "sImP!"
I am just glad
That Eizouken and Devilman Crybaby are getting the recognition they deserve
They're both amazing Anime!
Dorrie: BEEP BEEP
Me: I don't think that's the sound trains make champ! Love you Dorrie!
She's trying her best, okay!
To be fair, modern trains do go beep beep beep sometimes.
Some trains do actually go ''beep beep''
Favorite Yuasa Anime?... Gotta say, the crew here looooves Kaiba. If you need to something trippy, yet full of feels, check out our Kaiba clips.
Mine is Tatami Galaxi
I'm feeling Dorrie's makeup 👏
So Dorrie was the other person who watched Kemonzume. I knew there were two of us, but it's nice to meet the other
Kemonozume was my introduction to his work way back when, that ED song is still in my work playlist to this day!

Watched Kemonozume before Tokyo Ghoul even got serialized and I was honestly offended by the release of the latter

Great video! I hadnt realized that Eizouken was being made by the Devilman Crybaby guy!
The first Yuasa work I saw was Kaiba. Since that I'm in love with his work
The first one for me was Devilman: Crybaby, the most famous. Then I watched all his works. He's now my favorite director ❤

Huh. I somehow never heard of Masaaki Yuasa before, thanks for this video. I've got a lot to watch now.
My favorite anime director of all time. Tatami Galaxy, Yoru ha Mijikashi Otome, and Kaiba
I knew there was a reason Eizouken drew my attention. Haven't had a show's visual style grab my attention so forcefully since Ping Pong the Animation.

I feel dumb... I've seen that eps twice and never noticed until now that the staff room was in a pool.
Dorrie: "Before Devilman Crybaby, Yuasa was hesitant to show things like blood, violence in his projects"
Kemonozume: "AM I A JOKE TO YOU?"
I know the channel isn't running anymore but I can't bear to unsubscribe because of how amazing it was
