Synopsis:-
Gerulal ( Sanjeev Kumar ), a truck driver, comes to a small mountain village in Himachal Pradesh . Dhaniram, a local dhaba owner, gets Gerulal a room on rent in the house of an old woman, Jyoti ( Waheeda Rehman ). Jyoti has three daughters - eldest… Nimki ( Sharmila Tagore ), middle… Mitthu ( Shabana Azmi ) and youngest Chinaki ( Kiran Vairale ). Gradually Gerulal comes close to the four women and becomes like a member of the family. He falls in love with Nimki but she refuses to marry him and tells Gerulal that she should marry Mitthu. Gerulal has to leave from there.
A few years pass and once Gerulal meets a woman dancing in a nautanki. This is Chinaki who now lives with her father Kishanlal. Gerulal learns from Chinaki that he has made a mistake by not taking any information about Nimki and her sisters in the last three years. When he goes to the village, he finds Nimki living alone. Both Jyoti and Mitthu are dead. Gerulal brings Nimki with him. The film is also known for its good music by R.D. Burman.
