The fist thing England needs to do is to leave that arrogance behind and not just the players, but the fans too. I'd been living in Canada for 40 years in a little town called Stratford, is predominant English, I'm Brazilian and our national team is going tru some bad times right now, we got kicked out of the Copa America, we are 6th in World Cup qualifiying at the moment, but we had won the World Cup 5 times and still the English fans here in town always tell me right on my face England is the best in the World, they have the best league and the most expensive players and I all I have to ask them to keep them quiet is: How many European championships or World Cup England has???

time and time and time again you do it to yourselves, you completely exhaust your own players mentally with one extreme to another. You say "its coming home" like you own football and it should be in England. You get royalty, film stars, pop stars and other sport stars to make videos, you start talking about who should be knighted after you win but also at the same time degrade them. You make them do interview after interview in the build up to every game, repeatedly ask them if they know what it means to the country etc which obviously takes its toll. Sure other countries get emotional as well, but no-one does it to the same extent as England and its why almost everyone else end up wanting you to lose. Your country gets the results the people deserve!

Sorry Cundy, when Spain scored their second goal it came out of the blue while England were on the front foot and hence it was a counter attack, they were not sitting back. The bottom line is that the best performing team won having won every game they played and defeated the other favourites and biggest teams in the competition on the way conclusively. Having said that Southgate was let down by the fact once again, just as he did in giving in to media pressure to not take Sterling to the competition having taken him too the last Euros despite a coordinated and relentless campaign by the media demanding he should not go, he changed what had been his successful approach of bringing substitutes on late and brought them on early as demanded by pundits. The result being that the England goal to equalise came too early giving the opposition time to respond while England's defense was weakened by the substitutes who were attackers. Southgate's strategy of bringing on the attacking substitutes late was a fantastic use of the players he had, ensuring they got the goal with a more attacking team on the pitch and weaker defense, but with little time for the opposition to take advantage of the weakened defense. Bring thee substitutions on later in this game would have meant when the England goal came, there would have been no time for Spain to respond, taking the game into extra time where everybody in so tired anything can happen. Still then, Spain may have had too much for England, but you never know. The main reason we did not win this tournament and did not perform in it is simply that we did not take our spark and most reliable player in tournaments and the attacking player who suits Southgate's style of play best of maintaining a solid defense while continuing to be an attacking threat, Raheem Sterling. The irony is that in the final England came face to face with a Spain team that has won every game because of the additions of Sterling clones in style of play to both their wings who have terrorised defenses all through the tournament. Speedy, dribbling, high scoring, assist providing wingers dangerous going down the wing, cutting in, or slicing through the middle with their dribbling ability and passing ability, and dangerous in counter-attacks. A variety of weapons in just one player Spain had operating on both wings without taking away these players ability to contribute to defensive responsibilities, and so giving Spain not just a lethal attack, but also a strong defense, much as England had at the last Euros with Sterling in the team and Saka being to some extent mentored by him for the other wing. Make no mistake, the teams England played at these Euros were far weaker than the teams the England team at the last Euros played in both reaching the, but the team of the 2022 Euros beat those better teams convincingly. That England team where the manager and equally importantly his staff more ruthlessly ignored the demands of the media was a better team than this one, even if there too the big players as always tournament after tournament failed to perform to their expected heights, until Raheem Sterling as their spark inspired them to raise their level: stronger in attack and stronger in defense. If Raheem Sterling had been in this team and so taking it closer to the weapons Spain had without weakening the England defense as takes place when the substitutes come on, I think England may have won or given the a tougher game. What was missing was a bigger attacking threat to support the strong defense as the last England team of 2022 had through using Sterling and his variety of weapons to singlehandedly create chaos and panic. Bringing on substitutes that weaken the defense was effective in the last minutes of the game giving the opposition little time to exploit the weakened defense, but would not be effective if used to play a full match in which your defense is weakened by the added attacking threat. The balance would be wrong. Let's be honest, the attacking wingers are dangerous with all their weapons, but although heading that way as clones of Sterling, they are not yet of the level of Sterling on his day who is like them almost undefendable, relentless with all his weapons without weakening your defense, giving the opposition of the 2022 England team the position of a boxer of a boxer who is being hit, but cannot hit his opponent, and that is the objective of a Gareth Southgate system. He has done a fantastic job for England and with the England 2022 Euros performances gave most of us the best international tournament experience we have ever had. Let's be honest it, although we got to the finals of this 2024 Euros and the players should be proud, the teams we played were weaker than the team of 2022 played and our performances against them were uninspiring. The last minute goals should heave never been necessary against the opposition we faced. Unless we turn back to Sterling and so a better balance of attack and defense again as we had in 2024 and then match Spain in having Sterling type wingers on each wing using Saka, our future whoever the manager is does not look bright, because Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, France and even Italy all look like they will be much stronger next time, and we are not even talking about Columbia, Argentina and Brazil. Peace and love

I am Spanish but I understand you,all english, perfectly and I totally empathize with the disappointment that all English fans of the European Football Championship feel. Until 2008, the Spanish were the same as the English. Year after year and championship after championship, Spain was eliminated despite having very good soccer teams. We had great soccer clubs that won club championships but the national team was not able to get past the quarterfinals. Spain had won the European Nations Cup in 1964 against Russia, playing in Spain, but from that moment on the national team had achieved nothing. very similar to what is happening to England today. England has a selection of enormous quality, one of the best in the world. It also has a fan base, enormously passionate followers who demonstrate it every time England scores a goal. When England tied with Spain, the seismographs in England showed as if there was a real earthquake. Therefore, I repeat, I understand you perfectly. Due to the quality of the team, England deserves a great victory that gives hope to a great nation because there are few things that can restore hope like football. In Spain, every time the Spanish team wins, the number of those who support independence in Catalonia and the Basque Country decreases.
I hope to be next final with england again, and dont forget spanish loves england people

The reason we talk about easy routes is because everyone says he has the best record of any England manager like it makes him a better manager... when in fact that best record is a reflection of the draw rather than the quality of manager he is. I think Sven and Beckham would have beat Slovakia and Switzerland but would Southgate and Kane beat 2002 Brazil?

Who cares how you get to the final would of you handed the trophy back had you won don't think so you play what you get, he's been your best manager spite how you win

@@thenry866 ok so the reason you care about how you get to the final is because if you've fluked your way by playing easier opposition, getting lucky decisions and moments of individual player brilliance there it's an obvious indication that the manager has little to no clue what he's doing (evidence being that luck has played higher role in success) and you're then statistically far less likely to win the final when you get there.
However, if you play like Spain did on route to the final - you build momentum, play with rhythm and cohesively with slick moves from the training ground, you win convincingly against top teams, then it's a clear indication you've got a good manager who knows a thing or two about football, giving them a much better likelihood of winning that final when they're in it.
Just because weve had more success under Southgate doesnt mean we have a manager who is capable of getting us over the line and playing on the easier side of the draw means were essentially papering over the cracks. For all we know hes no better than Sven who went up against 2002 Brazil and Portugal twice with a prime Ronaldo.

So he's not the best manager but got results, bruv accept that we didn't win , if we had another manager if we played harder teams, if we playerd differently we would of won, means nothing in stats you gave, on the day it is what it is, tomorrow the sun will rise again, and you live to fight another day, bruv I'm not your enemy I'm gutted with the lost, but for me southgate didn't bring it home but I'm so grateful we made the final if that's all I got.

@@thenry866 maybe this is where we see it differently. We have the best squad of players on world football. The international stage is poor compared to what it used to be (think back to prime Brazil, France, Germany etc). I'm not grateful to be in another final. It's time for us to win the thing. And if we have a manager who can get us playing properly as a team rather than waiting/hoping for moments and riding their luck then we will win the thing. At 1-1 the game was there for the taking, same as it was last final, our manager chokes and sits back. Hes had 8 years, it's been fun, but there is no evidence to suggest he can win us this thing and based on the talent we have available we deserve to win it. We need to be a world beater otherwise when we dont get a favourable draw (like last world cup against France in the QF) well be knocked out again.
