I've watched The Heiress with Olivia de Havilland and Montgomery Clift as Katherine and Morris. The ending is quite dramatic with Morris Townsend being barred from entering the house as he believes that Katherine is willingly waiting to elope with him at last. Katherine gets her revenge as she walks upstairs with him pounding furiously at the locked door. "I can be very cruel. I've learned from masters", she tells Aunt Lavinia. I also watched Washington Square with Albert Finney, Ben Chaplin, and Jennifer Jason Leigh as Dr. Sloper, Morris Townsend and Katherine Sloper. I like both versions, and I might like the newer version better. Washington Square seems more closer to the book. In Washington Square, Katherine doesn't turn on her father. She has other chances to marry, and she isn't bitter or cold
Good video. I think it’s interesting how Catherine holds on to the first act of rebellion against her father, even though she has no intention of actually marrying Morris.
Excellent review! I’m following along with my book because I read it straight without highlighting and now I’m trying to go back.
Great review, I'm also fascinated by the scene where Dr. Sloper threatens Catherine in that isolated spot.
Thank you for the video. I just read this a few months ago and noticed there aren’t many videos on James’ work.

Remind me where in the book the father is quoted saying he just wants to be right? Which chapter?
