@snakeclaw Hey, I've been installing pool tables for about seven years now. Me and my partner laugh at some of the "Pro Installations" we come across. So, I give you props for even tying to do it yourself.
@snakeclaw I second that. If your cloth is stretched tightly and lays flush in all the pocket then your installation is better than 90% of the tables I've inspected which have been covered by "pros". Professional means you get paid for doing it and that's it. The faster it get's done the more money you make. I would love to have a pro do mine each time but honestly we don't have anyone like that living in my area, just a bunch of hacks. If it's gonna be not perfect I aint paying for it.
That's why I did my own simonis. Play area came or adjust flawless but the pockets aren't perfect but they are shaped right. I replaced the bumpers too. If anyone is doing bumpers too k55 is the way to go
interesting info, and thx. however, it would appear that the championship cloth that i'm using is teflon embedded whereas the 860hr is not, so we are still not comparing apples vs apples. having children, i've cleaned several spills that are completely invisible. i do appreciate the info though and will consider a simonis cloth next time around....presuming they have a teflon feature by then. that is a feature i'm not willing to give up just yet.
thanks, marc. i try. the felt is REALLY tight and plays fast. with championship cloth, it works out well. if i was using simonis, it might stretch the shit out of it. sand the corners of the slate real good or the felt will tear at the lip in a few weeks. i stopped the tearing with super glue, which created a whole new set of problems. i had to sand down the lip that the super glue created. funny stuff.
@stivinity i ordered it online. i cant remember the name of the site, but if you google up something like "championship pool cloth", you will find many retailers. i cant remember the price either, but it's somewhere around $200 i think. could be more. could be less. there are faster cloths out there, but if you have kids or like to practice masse shots, this cloth is really durable.
there is a 3/4" mdf board glued to the bottom of the slate on all perimeters to provide a surface to staple onto. originally, my slate did not have that so i had to install that.
I think i stretched mine way more than you did, maybe too much. wish i had of gotten the euro blue instead of electric blue, but it still looks much better than brown.
hi, i,ve recovered my 7 ft snooker table with a used cloth from a full size table which still has the black, pink and blue spots on the baize, as they are not now in the right positions do you know how i can remove them without marking the baize
huh...no, i dont know. i would call a pro pool equipment dealer and ask them. i've dome some very creative work with sharpies on my cloth. not sure if that trick will work for you. let me know what you find out. cheers
Hi, I bought a used table and mounted it (all I had to do was put in the feet) and after playing a bit I noticed that the table is lower in the middle than the sides (so the balls roll to the middle). Can I go about doing this without removing the cloth, maybe by placing some planks under the table in the middle so it raises it a bit?
Your table is warped and it is not slate. If you moved it and all you did was mount the legs then it is a wood playing surface. Moving a slate table without slate removal is very heavy. A typical 8ft 3 piece 1" slate table is 800lbs or more. Heavier 9ft tables get over 1000lbs.
There's a difference between Championship Tour Edition and Simonis...the wool/nylon percentage. Championship is 70% wool, and 30% nylon, whereas normal Simonis 860 is 90% wool, and 10% nylon. If you want to compare the two cloths, then compare to Championship Tour Edition to the Simonis 860HR...then you'll see the same wool/nylon % in both cloths, then you'll see that the Simonis is a much better cloth over the long run.
@willibetmore i have a friend with simonis. balls roll great on his table. better than mine for sure. problem with his is that there are about 50 small tears in it, and i've probably put a dozen in there myself. if you nick the cloth doing a masse shot, simonis cloth doesn't like that too much and will tear the fiber. so it comes down to your lifestyle then. the comprimise is a fast cloth (simonis) vs. a durable cloth that doesn't tear or stain (championship). sucks i cant have both
if you attempt putting shims in the middle to raise the center (and yes, that will raise the center a bit, you will potentially break the wax or plaster seal at the seam, thus requiring you to remove the felt and redo your seam. so, in a nutshell, no, you cannot do it....BUT, go ahead and try since you are going to have to remove the felt anyway. one chance in a hundred you'll be lucky enough to have it work w/o removing the felt.
check, i'm glad you are a pro installer. i am not. in fact, i never claimed to be. there were no good installation videos on youtube, and so i thought i would help out other diy's with their installs. although my technique is different from yours, that does not make my installation wrong. my table looks and plays great. i'm aware of how you pro's do installs, which is exactly why i did not want a pro to touch my table. i've played on "pro" installed tables. i'm not so impressed.
@ILOVETHICKBITCHES google up "championship pool table felt". you will see many retailers. there are many brands you can buy. i prefer the championship as its crazy durable. its not as fast as simonis but it doesn't tear like simonis does. if you have kids or do a lot of masse shots (like i do), you will appreciate the championship cloth.
@bigtreez77 yeah, i was a cheap bastard and did it myself. i'm a builder/carpenter and couldn't resist the chance to put one together myself. it was a fun. i play on it 3 times a week, it plays well, balls roll straight, and i have fun. thats all i care about.
@Brendan945uk in one of my other vids you can see the wood (mdf board) that i glued onto the bottom of the slate. my table originally was like yours and had no wood backer. if you are going through the effort of re-felting, you should install the wood backer otherwise you cloth will never be tight and your pool balls will always roll very slow. there is no way to achieve the tension on the felt w/o the board. the added mass of the mdf board will improve the play also.
you are a genious. i live in st. louis, mo. where ever the fuck azbilliards is, i'm going to get in my car and drive there to see you? yeah, right. i know how most people stretch felt, and i think it's completely gay.
Thanks for all the detail. Nice work on the table and vid. Good Job!!!!!

@Checkrayze 275 installs a year? Ha, I probably do that in 3 months! and trust me professionals aren't always "Pros"
What if im doing an oval shape?

that is the worst way to stretch pool table cloth...come to azbilliards and talk to a mechanic...im going to post a video soon of the proper way
