I've just put GP5000 S TRs on my bike. They're fantastic, so fast! New Zealand roads use heavy chip seal, which is really rough in places. These tires at 30mm smooth out the ride incredibly.
I’ve been through the wringer over road tires. Had the gp5000s and got a tire-ending sidewall slash, got the Pirelli P-Zeros then got a refund through the product recall, then bought the Vittoria Corsa Pros, then got free Goodyear VectorRs from SRAM. I have zipp 353 wheels, all tires were 28s except the Goodyears which are 30s. The gp5000s were the most difficult to set up but were the fastest by far. They rolled so smooth that I felt like my bike didn’t have wheels - I actually had to relearn how to descend on these because they transformed my ride that much. I don’t have an air compressor. I had to go to the shop to seat the GP5000s but was able to use a hand pump and floor pump to seat the Pirelli, vittoria. Floor pump for the Goodyears. I’ll probably move back to the gp5000s once my Goodyears die out.
Currently on Pirelli p zero tlr RS 30mm, so far so far so good, i love them. After using gp5000 for age, continental is such a no brainer go to when it come to road tire tough.
I totally agree with you about the validity of the Continental 5000 S TR (28) tires, which I happily started to use on my road bike a year ago. However, I have a doubt: why in the rolling resistance table you didn't mention the Pirelli P-Zero SL tires at all? I consider them a little smoother than the Conti S TR, equally light, but much more prone to punctures. Moreover, they cost much more than the Conti...
I believe in the resistance table, I was simply highlighting the difference between 28mm and 30mm. If I were doing more of a comparison, I would have included the other top-tier tires.
Depends where you ride. In one year I’ve had to put two plugs in my tubeless GP5000s, and last night I got a screw puncture square in the centre of the wheel. I’ve had heaps of minor punctures that have been sealed up thankfully. (I wish their tan wall version looked better - meaning, had a wider tan section like the pirelli’s)
Currently on corsa pros 30mm but only because im a sucker for tanwalls and the gp5000s tanwall version is to dark for me. I was riding the contis for the last 2 years when i had a black bike.
Michelin Power Cup Competitions are faster, more restistant and cheaper than the GP5000s both the clincher and the TLR versions. I love the GP5000s and used them all my life with no punctures at all over thousands and thousands of kms but the Power Cups are to me the new king in town.
I run the Power cup and the gp5000 on my bikes. Both tires are very good, but they have one negative aspect. The michelin feels scetchy in the wet (maybe its just a feeling), and the conti has quality issues from time to time. Sometimes continental tires dont run 100% straight.
I have tried 2 years ago. Had a terrible experience - was running tubeless and flatted both really fast. Could be bad luck and they might have improved since then. They seemed very thin and weight optimized.
My 25 str front has micro cracks near sidewall, not old, just under 3k kms, theyre quite common with 5000 str upon checking on forums. I'll just use them til the the twr is gone, so far just 1 slice which sealed easily. My 28c rear non-str has been perfect tho. Theyre much stronger than my goodyear f1 eagle tlr
What kind of sealant do you use them with? And tell me if there are any nuances with them? I'm also thinking of using 25mm tubeless, do you have any advice? Maybe you need to know the recommended pressure so as not to exceed it?
Is the normal gp 5000 the Same tyre but you cant run them tublesse? Because they are cheaper. Since I dont want to Ride tubless could I just by the gp5000?
These are just better, for everything. He spitting the truth. I have 3k miles on mine gp 5000 S TR's with zero flats and zero reason to want a different tire.
I just went from 30mm corsa controls to gp5k 32mm. Sadly i have to say. The corsa’s are soooo much better in terms of comfort and grip. Defo going back to the corsa controls but in 32mm next
Hi, i was thinking of a Fray as you said in your review you had PB's over the "most aero bike you owned" - Venge. But now you say the SL8 is the most aero and fastest and most comfy. Is the SL8 faster and more comfy than your Fray? I can t keep up with the contradictions and would like clarity. Please do clarify as we value your opinion - even if you are American! Or ignore my comment.
I;m only wanting to switch to a tire with some sidewall protection-thinking of cinturato velo- because i punctured two of the gp5000 str and a power cup comp in the last month. A sizeable gash on the sidewall i’m getting where a performance tire isn’t really expected to have a protection nor the sealant can do anything for. 28 mm cinturato velo is approved for cadex 50 ultras but it’ll bulge out so wanna go 26mm; any idea anyone? Other than that; don’t try to fix what ain’t broke people (use 5000 str’s)
Are you sure you are not pinching tyres? Most of my flats were pinched tubes, and it can even happen with tubeless. I'm riding Cinturato Velo, but they are relatively slow, and certainly compared to the GP 5000's. Else they look good to me, I don't think you can find stronger, even compared to Gatorskins, and they have a good grip too. I have both 26 and 28 mm, and they are both 2 mm wider in 19c and 22c rims.
Much worse puncture resistance. I run Enve Raceday 27s on my crit bike and GP5KSTRs and PZero TR (not the new RS’s) on other bikes and ride all of them in varied conditions and the Enve’s flat much more often.
You can find pressure calculators online, taking your weight and kind of rides into account... Continental also give their own indications, look in the manual for tyres pressures, also on the sidewall of the tyre itself... Then the wheels manufacturer might also give some indications. I look at these 3 sources and try to stay in the advised ranges.
Just Done a Video on Some Tyres I've been Running For the last 8 Months. I have Faster & Lighter Tyres Than These GP5000str For 1/4 The Cost 25c 100psi For the Win 🤙 🤙
They feel quite slow to me, I'm riding them because I wanted strong tyres, and they have good grip too. I'm a slow rider anyway, so speed is not my priority, but my X-One CX tyres are just as fast.
I’m curious about the tire pressures you use. The Silca tire pressure calculator recommends 64 psi for the roughest (paved) roads in the rear tire at a measured width of 30mm. How did you arrive at 50 psi for your setup?
Try em out, you’ll see haha. I have the 30s, used the Silca (gave me 69 psi!), slowly dropped down and it’s way better. I currently ride them at 60ish psi and they feel amazing. And I get a bit of leeway in case I have a small puncture and lose a bit of pressure to the sealant.
bad side if we made good affordable tire famous it will jump up the price. this GP5000 is middle class tire but today bike shop sell this thing like top premium tier tire.
@@ISpitHotFire I bought my GP 5000 (tube type) 32 mm tires for € 39,99 in my local shop. I think this is a good price for a reliable, fast and comfortable tire.

I only use 1 Brand of Tyre Now, I have to bulk order them from America as they are not available in Europe. And if you want more protection with minimal rolling loss, the GP5000 AS TR is a good option. A popular tire at this year’s Transcontinental Race
Pirelli P Zero is a great tire. F1 supplier also. And OEM on my Porsche. But I also rode Conti’s for long time. Two great companies
Hahaha, love the Porsche flex. My really hot girlfriend agrees too.
I have been riding Panaracer GK slick in 32 and love them. But now I am gonna try these soon.

Interesting! In what way is the power cup more comfortable? I wonder how they would compare to the ASTR
I’ve used both and personally I prefer PC, it feels a bit more cushy for me and _feels_ more grippy in wet. GP5000 feels harder.

My favorite tires. I use 32s on Industry Nine AR 40 wheels. Measure around 33.4mm.
Conti GP5000 S TR, latest pair are 30’s and they’ve been great as all the former 28’s were as well.
I don’t use TLRs because I don’t know how to care for them and mount them. I trust tubes but the 5000s are my go to tires. best on the market for me.
Presumable TR means tubeless ready. So my question, how hard is it to install the tire with a tube inside? Great presentation.

Did you ever end up trying the AS (all season) version?

26mm turbo cottons. Best. GPs no comparison and I've used them both extensively. Combination of latex tubes and turbo cottons is amazing.
