Morris had a work-a-day career for a couple of decades. HIs music is unobtrusively supportive of the films he scored that in most cases offer enough to listen to on their own. This one is a light accompaniment to my work this morning. Like Ron Goodwin and Charles Fox, he wrote melodic music that set the appropriate tone for the stories to come and helped moved the narrative along. They were also of their age, and their approach to film scoring for the medium-budget movies that were their bread and butter fell out of favor by the early 90s.

“Clue - it’s not just a game… anymore”, those were the words to promote the 1985 movie, based on the highly popular “Cluedo” board-game. While it is indeed quite a task to put some board-game-plot into a movie, it was done here successfully by screenwriter John Landis and director Jonathan Lynn. Besides that, the colorful cast, featuring Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn and Christopher Lloyd (to name a few) make watching it a funny experience. And in the end, it is John Morris’ wonderful music that gives it its final touch, being not too serious about itself but still keeping the tension of an old mansion and murder in the air… Enjoy!
