Hi Tom and Jason: It would be great if you shared what games you find better when you say things like, "Its not my favorite when compaired with other bidding games." As always, thanks for the review!
Thanks, guys. This a classic game I've long heard spoken of vaguely, but not much has been out there to sink my teeth into. I love auction games, and this looks like it sets a standard.
One of the best auction games of all time. Some people don't like it, but to me the whole Ra mechanic moves the game forward so well and combines a bit of push your luck. Almost feels like a game show.
You missed Priest of Ra (by Rio Grande I think) that is exactly the same game except the tiles you are bidding on are different and so the scoring works differently even though the mechanics are exactly the same. Not played Ra but PoR is really good :)
If pharaohs are too valuable, have you ever considered houseruling them to be worth less points? It seems like a relatively effortless adjustment. I mean I concur that a game should be well balanced to begin with, but I wonder if making them -3/+3 instead of -5/+5 would make for a more interesting game for you.
isn't it -2/+5? and in a multi-player game it's anyway only for 'most' and 'least'... Actually, I don't get how pharoas are so powerful as Jason says... where other strategies can give 15 points as well.
Pharoahs control the game? Max of 5 points per round for 3 rounds ... controls the game? I won yesterday with a monument strategy, finished either next to last or last in pharoahs. I can't remember.

Great series keeps on rolling. Thanks guys
Knizia's masterpiece. Along with Tigris & Euprhates.
Tell me the better auction games. Thanks!
RA CHICKEN (The push your luck part when you are the last one left)
I'm glad that I got this from a Secret Santa one year. Great game.
My 44th favorite game after only 1 play.

Great game! Really interesting auction mechanic.
I thought Tasty Minstrel was bringing back Amun-Re, not Ra.
+Marcy Kennedy I believe this is correct, too.
