Brazil: Uncontacted tribe members targeted while patrolling for invaders

  • The Javari Reserve in Brazil's Amazon is home to numerous tribes who have never had contact with the outside world.
    But illegal hunters and fishermen are encroaching on their space.
    Native trackers patrol the rainforest to keep the tribes safe from threats.
    But as Al Jazeera's Monica Yanakiew reports, they have also become targets.

    Indigenous tribes across globe suffer this same violence. from Australia to Amazon.. "protected" areas are targeted by poachers & Corporations. Sinful!

    • @kiabtoomlauj6249
      @kiabtoomlauj6249 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Poachers are like pick pocketers, teens and individuals out to steal small amounts from other individuals.
      It's organized group, the petro (gas and crude oil) corporations, giant farming and fishing industries... as well as the governments themselves, through neglect and through forcibly taking lands from native groups, by moving them around, by isolating them on purpose to make them die out... those are the real few groups & entities to fear from...
      Historically, governments have been the most dangerous entities where Natives are concerned. You have some ways to deal with non-governmental groups and thieves; you have no power against a government that decides where you live.
      Most of the Native Americans in North America, for example, had been relocated to the less or least desirable places... but even then, they're not safe; if gold, oil, or diamond are found in those new places, the government could come and take it all or relocated powerless Natives again... or trick elders to sell the lands for "exploration"....

    0:57 This guy alllegely killed Dom Phillips, a british journalist and Bruno Pereira, a very experienced indigenist expert 4 months laters.
    Bruno was present in one of the boats used during the recording of this footage. He was probably the most important indigenist for the Javari area in the whole world, having worked for years with recently contacted and uncontacted tribes of the region, which is home for the biggest number of isolated tribes in the world. He even spoke some of the languages only spoken in the area.
    A sad day for Brasil and for all the native people worldwide. This event is the epitome of an ongoing politic by federal government in order to enrich the same few people who control agricultural and mining business, escalating violence in the area to levels reminiscent of colonization.

    Why don't they tag the fish they catch? Give them a few tags so no one would over fish a specific specie and if someone does, he would be penalized. Oh yes, it's not like this is happening in US waters and knowing Brazil govt. Is crooked? It's no wonder the fishery is a disaster.
