This was awesome!!! Because these are my local historic homes, they have to be my favorites. If you are ever in the Philadelphia suburban area, Northern Delaware, or Southern New Jersey, they are worth the trip. Schmancy wasn’t kidding when he said that Longwood Gardens takes a whole day. The have renovated the fountains in the last 10 years and put on a fantastic lights/fountain show in the summer. Tickets in advance are mandatory, they sell out. It’s a don’t miss. Also, if you have any interest in 18th-19th century “stuff”, Winterthur, is an absolute must see! 😊😊😊

My mother was the first person to get your ticket for a tour of an eighthof the obnoxiously large country home. However Christmas and point to point tailgating and watching the finest Thoroughbreds from the local horses farm. Tradition of bar crawl in North Wilmington 🎉😊

Winterthur is the best. Love going there to see the rotating exhibit on display, do some holiday shopping, then go to Buckley's Tavern in Centreville for a beer.

Very well done! I've lived in the area for my entire life and only went to 3-4 of these homes. The Nemours Estate is the best. Right next to the Children's Hospital (behind the water tower on the estate).

The estate tour guide told a story about Alfred DuPont's will being broken to build the hospital: His widow had use of everything until her death when it was then supposed to be built. She went to court to change the will to take the land and money and have it built right away rather than waiting for her death. The court said, "Yes."

This video makes it seem as if Winterthur was built all at once as a 175 room mansion: it was added on to and added onto again several times to get to its current size. There is one more mansion in Wilmington where the gardens are restored and open to the public, but the mansion is currently derelict: Gibraltar.

Great houses! The history just shouts beauty & the beast! Wonderful gardens beautiful art & artifacts yet @ the helm the human state of greed vanity exclusivity & division... Prejudice.

Minor thing - Hockessin not Hockassin. I only share in case someone wants to google where it is.

Another grand DuPont estate. However, for this list we only wanted to include those geared for tourism, not the private ones. Thanks for watching!

I've seen many of these homes. My favorite (as a mansion) is Nemours. I think of Winterthur as what it was meant to be by Henry DuPont, a museum. The gardens at Longwood are spectacular, but the house is "meh." Very good and enjoyable video.
