I'm of the unpopular opinion that it was actually better than Season 1. Just found myself way more invested in the characters and found the villains so much more entertaining.
I think the only real problem is how the season ended. It's not even an issue with what happened, it's just that it felt like it ended very suddenly, like season 2 and 3 are one season split in half.
@@simplyepic3258from what I've heard and read, the creator basically had a very long season 2, so he sorta had to split it in half, and find a good point to end season 2 on, which ended up being Jung-bae's ending, so it did sort of end a bit fast, because he had to find somewhere to end it. Unofficially, it's the second half of season 2. Officially, it's season 3.
I mainly think it's because people just got their hopes up. They've had 3 years to imagine where the second season would go. And sometimes that leads to disappointment. Other times it leads to pleasant surprises.
The debt collector sacrificing his life for his friend deserves praise. Who would of guessed that the Recruiter from season 1 would be a psychopath. The actor who plays him does such a fantastic job that its terrifying.
I love episode 1 because of course our experience with the Recruiter in season 1 leaves us with the question: "What kind of person would do this?" And the moment I saw him extend his hands with the bread and the lottery ticket, I knew he was going to make them pick and I got my ansewr: "Oh, holy cow, he's a crazy self-satisfied sadist!" Great showing, not telling.
It should be noted that the recruiter is using polite terms towards the homeless people. He is calling them 선생님 which is literally translated "those who are born earlier", so you use it for someone older than you, it's what you'd call a teacher too. And he is using the m~nida style as well, which is very polite. It's like he is talking to very important people, not homeless people. Hearing how deceivingly polite he is gives me the shivers, his duality is scary.
So happy you’re watching this show in Korean. Makes it so much better when it isn’t the awful dubbed version! You’re a fair reactor as well, and you have already picked up on things that other reactors haven’t regarding this season. I think you’ll really enjoy the message of this season and see it clearly. Lee not telling the police his brother was incharge of the games was the correct move. They could of justified he was mentally ill and struggling to cope with his brothers disappearance.

I love how squeamish you got during the Russian Roulette scenes, especially the second one. Just goes to show that even with Gi-hun's plot armor, and without actually going back to the island, you can still have a tense af scene.
True! I feel what a lot of people forget that, even if you have plot armour on a character, or even if it is obvious they’ll survive, if it’s written well, you’ll just feel with the character. Because the character /doesnt/ know they’ll get through. If done well, it’s enough to keep the tension way up there
if you liked squid game, you should definitely give alice in borderland a watch. it's loosely based off of lewis carroll's alice in wonderland, but the vibe is very similar to squid game. the story is very different though and especially if one knows the original alice story, it's really cool to watch. it's set in a dystopian, kinda parallel universe style japan (it's a j-drama).

I dont think he necessarily thought "i should die rather than him because he has a family", if that was the case he could have lost on purpose at any point. Its more the fact that he has to *choose* to kill him. He knows if he removes Scissors his friend dies, so he hesitates. Its essentially the same thing, sure, but there is still a difference in your mind. He obviously didnt consider sacrificing himself before he actually had to be the one to "pull the trigger" so to speak.
I hear but that doesn’t change his choice to consider he has a family either. Think about it, if he did what you say, only wait until he HAD to kill him, only then would he also consider the fact he had a family to nurture. Obviously he wouldn’t have considered that in the heat of the game when neither of them were certain to die.
I enjoyed this season more than the first. I found the story inbetween the actual games more interesting this time around. Excited for new episodes at the end of the year :)

interesting connection to the North Korean girl in season 1, and the North Korean girl in season 2: Their names, Se-byuk means dawn and No-eul means sunset. Their surnames, Kang are the same. I haven't finished season 2 yet, so I don't know if this is a spoiler or not.
I really don’t understand the way people dislike this season. Especially with the characters? S1 I was only really attached to two of them. Gi-Hun and Sae-Byeok. And Ali was pretty close as well. With this season I can think of five characters off the top of my head that I’m super attached to.
I LOVED the first episode more than all the rest of the actual games. My second favorite episode after Gganbu last season. It was stunning and intense. The acting was elite. I appreciate when you can can tell that a series that got more money and USED it for the viewer's benefit 100%.

I probably would have chosen the scratcher as well. That bread could sustain you for what, a few days if you ration it? That scratcher had the potential (granted, a very small chance) of sustaining you for many years. I don't know how the Korean lottery works. Like if it's either you get the jackpot or nothing, or it's like the American lottery where there's also a chance of hitting smaller amounts. If it's the latter, odds are pretty good that at least some of those people would have won a minor amount worth more than the bread anyways.

Once I was far into the second season, I realised that there is a continuous theme in the second season about the choice -- or "The illusion of choice" as you said yourself. When I realised that the democratic vote was going to come again and again, I also realised that must be the general theme of the second season. I get the creative choice, however I don't know if the first season nessiciarily demonstrated much of a choice. Sure, they had a vote in the first season, too, but as the first season also demonstrated, the desperation of people often lead to a situation where there is BARELY a choice.

this season 2 can be explained based off the first episode. The bread n lottery concept is the core of this season.
