@@Adventureswithbecky home and auto. I was on the customer service side so I would hear the client’s side, the claims department side, which is basically the department that decides if they will payout or not, the company side and then the individual agent side. Man the stories I could tell!
The main reason I retired from insurance in 2022 is because I woke up to the corruption of insurance companies too back when the pandemic was forced upon us. My cousin and family are in Englewood, FL and their insurance company is one of those mentioned on 60 minutes.

People keep going with large, faceless insurance companies... I have a rural mututal insruance company... a small company only 3 full time employees, and a little over 1,100 total policyholders. This way, local people who are also policyholders are the board of directors for the company.
That might work out for Becky if she has damage to her home that is declared wind/hail damage instead of flooding from Hurricane Milton...She has said she is not in a flood zone...

20+ years as broker in Insurance industry as well as served on board for a national insurance association. #1) don't buy the cheapest crap insurance brand you can find. buy a well-known and regarded carrier. again DO NOT BUY the lowest price carrier. #2) a "mutual" insurance carrier is one where the stockholders are also clients. highly recommend an insurance company with the wording MUTUAL in it's name
Was the insurance company Allstate, because I gotta say, the people in my town that had them as their insurance were screwed over by them last year when a Tornado hit our area. All of us had damage to our houses and property but the people who had Allstate insurance had the hardest time getting their insurance to pay for their damage. They were underestimating the damage, denying that something was damaged, even though it clearly was, and then just straight up not paying. Ppl are still fighting to get their houses repaired. Allstate sucks.
I think that in the long-term people need to assess the risk of living in areas with seasonal potential disasters. Rebuilding only to have a hurricane, tornado, fire, etc. is a recipe for loss!!
Much of the country has natural disasters. You simply cannot have everyone in small areas. The point of insurance is to have coverage. They are in these States/areas having no problem doing business and taking money. That is something to really think about. Many of the areas haven't had serious things like this happen at all or for many years.

We have had to battle auto, medical and home and I had no idea this is going on. I knew they were shady but had no idea it was this shady!
