I tried the diet coke thing after hearing this episode. JESUS CHRIST they were not lying! It hurt so bad. When they say your taste buds are not awake, they mean it. I did feel like i was more awake after. It makes sense that all the teachers in my school district drank diet coke every morning.
Honestly I love this bit so much I keep coming back to it. Also I do love how they ended up with the legitimate marketing technique of false scarcity with the single $25 Pepsi
the substitution thing is exactly what i did! i had to tell myself that im either gonna have coffee or a soda today but never both, i have to choose one. after a few months of that i couldnt drink any softdrink w/o being disgusted.. you could probably do this with juice too or some other sugary drink to satiate yourself. i do miss that sting that makes you tear up tho....

It's triple filtered and now even bottled water pales in comparison. Pros: It's free. Cons: You'll never be able to comfortably drink non-bucks water again.
The "coke tap water" thing is probably because Coca Cola launched Dasani in the UK but it was just treated tap water rather than actual mineral water (more popular here than in the US I think?) so it was a massive flop. It didn't help that the sitcom Only Fools And Horses where the characters come up with daft money-making schemes had a famous episode with that exact plot. Also there was some concern about the plastic used in the bottles being carcinogenic.
@@Mike-os3pt as far as I was aware that was a thing since world of coke sells pepsi products. The ingredients also are the same thing since warm coke just tastes like pepsi and so on. I just figured it was a left and right twix sort of thing but looking into it you're right. No idea where I got that information from unless it is just a giant conspiracy lol
