I love that Amity was not mad just because she felt jealous, but rather because she worked hard for that star and the teacher gave it to Willow after doing just one good assignment
Exactly my thoughts, Amity has worked her whole life to be top of the school, and probably thinks of the badge as something to show for her achievements, if others don't really care for them, then Willow comes along with one good abomination and takes it (not her fault obviously, but it seems like it to Amity)
And I also forgot how intense she can get…
She was less hostile than I remember, but I think that at the time she didn't see things from Willow's perspective, she picked on her so much for being "half a witch" that Willow might've felt like she had to cheat to get respect and success. I understand where Amity is coming from but I think there could've been better ways for her to deal with it instead of making a scene in the cafeteria or trying to get Luz dissected by her principal. I think she should've let it go and walk away, she would keep working hard to get that badge back.
Yeah and now that we know why she bullied willow (bc her parents told her to) she wasn't being herself she was just doing what her mom wanted her to do
@@halfmoonx yeah but, Amity's parents just wanted to cut Willow out of her life to maintain their reputation. Amity's bullying, her behavior and harmful actions were her own conscious choices and nothing to excuse or justify. Despite her parents abuse she was ultimately her own worst enemy.

You know, I just realized that Luz’s friends understand hugs, but Ed’s doesn’t, so I think that means that it’s just Eda who has trouble understanding affection.
It could mean that her childhood might be pretty messed up.

Eda more then likely had come from a family where things like affection, praise, and probably even compliments were far & in-between, which WOULD explain why she's only so used to giving out little head pats..
It would also explain her rebellious nature, when you really think about it~🤔

I kinda like the principal. I get the feeling that he was onto them and the bit with him threatening to dissect Luz was an act to see how far they’d go. Also he can’t be all bad. He saw great potential in Willow’s plant magic. He could have punished her for aiding and embedding an intruder but he hooked her up with a course transfer. Dudes alright in my book.

When willows angry, she becomes a "womping willow"!🌳💥💫
One of my favorite things about this episode I like is that Amity, as much as she could have been kinder, wasn't completely in the wrong here. Willow and Luz DID cheat and they overshadowed/embarassed Amity in the process. She wasn't just jealous and vindictive someone was better than her, Amity KNEW that they were cheaters and weren't just good competition and honetstly if someone took my rank as top student in class via cheating and lying, I would have been pissed too. And Amity holds to these morals of not being a cheater or liar Covention too when she's the only person involved in their whole magic duel that DIDN'T cheat. Lilith didn't even suggest cheating to her cause Amity would NEVER. It's just really nice to me how you can see a sense of integrity and morality in Amity which she really never strayed from, even back when she was a rival instead of a friend or romantic interest.
Plus, it was unfair to make her the top student after one assignment.
I can’t get over the fact of King’s laugh. It reminds me of Bill Cipher (from Gravity Falls) every time, and yes I know they both have the same voice actor Alex Hirsch. This makes me love King even more.

In one of the gravity falls comics it says when Dipper and Mabel met the exotl it basically told them that bill could be redeemed in a different form in a different time

The mixed messages keep us from writing her off like some Boscha.

And with this episode I can say principal bump is better at leading a magic school than dumbledore. When did dumbledore take that active of a role in protecting his school. Yes he tried to cut luz open but he believed her to be an intruder to the school

Which is why he let Willow do the first cut instead of doing it himself, because if he was right that it was an intruder then she wouldn't want to cut them open
I can imagine what willow did when angry, is probably what it's like when witches and wizards goe through puberty!

A surprise for the fans, Luz is NOT attending magic school, but is instead being mentored by Eda. Speaking of which, it’s obvious she was a drop out and yet achieved “greatness” by just being herself.
We'll have to see how well this ages, but now it's cheese

When it comes to Magic Schools, I'd either want to attend Underbridge Academy or the Augefort Adventuring Academy.
For those unfamiliar, the first example is from a book from the Simpsons universe called The Troll Twins of Underbridge Academy. While the latter example is from the CollegeHumor/Dimension20 D&D campaign, Fantasy High

I think it make sense that Luz and Eda got the best of both worlds in this episode. Luz is learning from an indirect way by those two student teaching her magic and Eda is pleased that Luz herself it not going to the school itself. Don't forget Eda is rebellious against the system. For Luz to go to that magic school would goes against Eda teaching.
A little late, but I'm p sure "I was a Teenage Abomination" is a reference to My Life as a Teenage Robot
