Are there any special precautions for handling butterfly koi? I can't quite figure out what type of infection he has and I need a closer exam. Even though I have countless fish tanks, I've never actually handled a fish, so he's never been handled before. He is VERY TAME but I don't have that everso necessary confidence you speak of! I also have a question about the koi socks. I have one that holds water but when my husband and I have tried to move larger fish with it I worry about it pinching their fins. Like, when we have a fish in the sock, out of the water, and the fabric inevitably bends/folds, I am afraid that it's going to hurt him. The one in question is about 20" from his (cute lil) snout to caudal peduncle (I can't even type caudal peduncle without smiling) he has always lived indoors, his first year he was in a glass tank, now he's in a large indoor pond. When his original tankmate died (ate a piece of gravel, I was a noob then) he was temporarily housed in a 150 Gallon stock tank while I waited for his pond to be built. During his solitary confinement he was notedly depressed so I started spending time with him, half hour twice a day. Since then, he has preferred my company over other fishes. Mid "flirting" if he sees me he stops trying to push Berta into the walls and comes over for my attention. And he has definitely tried to spawn with my leg before! TMI?
A good vid for the final destination of koi to bowl. But it serves no purpose of getting the koi from pond to the bowl. Really need to show actual pond condition and moving a smaller koi from the beginning. NOT a large koi. As large koi are just to easy to move around.
Great now understanding how each type of net work and what is more appropriate for what.
Thanks ThePondDigger.
This video very helpful. Thanks Shawn
