Recently got into reading and books, I’m currently building a library but I want black authors first. I joined a AA women’s book club and have gotten some great reads so far.
Thank you for this video! I’m a fantasy and historical fiction girlie too. I’m reading Legendborn right now, about halfway through it, and I love it. I have Blood Debts, Skin of the Sea, and Blood Trials on my TBR. The Blueprint and Rust in the Root sound interesting too.
Great video! I have two series that I think just you might like both by black authors. The Tether Trilogy by Shanora Williams and The Bliss Wars trilogy by L. Penelope. These are Romantasy series and they are sooooooo good! I’ve read all 3 of the bliss wars and the first two of the tether trilogy. I’m waiting for book 3 to come out. These are both adult fantasies.
Adding to my tbr! With fantasy specifically, I love when there are multiple books in the series. It gives me something to be invested in. Thank You!!!🤗 Can’t wait to check them out.
I love the rage of dragons! I enjoyed book 1 more than book 2 as book 2 is a lot more war-focused. Definitely check out NK Jemisin for adult fantasy. I wasn’t a big fan of Dread Nation but I also hate zombie stuff 😂 Looking forward to a song of wraith and ruin. Also loved beasts of prey.
I'm interested to hear your thoughts on Dread Nation and Deathless Divide. I thought both were 5-star reads, badass women having adventures and taking revenge in clever ways.
🧚🏾♂️ Great video! So glad you mentioned Children of Blood and Bone! I bought it way back when it was first released. It will be my first fantasy novel and I'm a little nervous about it.
I enjoyed The Blood Trials but like everyone else said The Blood Gift was def different, it was harder for me to get through. But please read it yourself as you intend to ☺️ I did add 2 books that you recommended from this video and look forward to reading them! 🧚🏾
The Broken Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin is one of my favourite Sci-Fi series and thus far I have only read book 1. Who Fears Death by Nedi Okorafor is really good
Have you read Kindred by Octavia Butler? You mentioned liking historical fiction. It's also got time travel so it's kind of sci-fi. Great recommendations! I added about half to my tbr.
I haven’t read any of her books yet but I just recently ordered a few that were on sale! Now I can’t wait to get to them. Thank you for the recommendations 🤗
Out Of Body.....So good!! I would've finished in one sitting if I didn't have to be up early lol. I'm going to start Blood Justice next so *fingers crossed* it's good
🧚🏽♂️ you had some good recs. I have two of the series you mentioned and still hadn’t read them yet. I’m glad that you mentioned there not being tons of Fantasy for adults written by black authors because I’ve been on a hunt and noticed that there weren’t many either.
A Song of Wraith and Ruin is SO good. I absolutely want to buy the physicals at some point. I think it’s just a duology, can’t wait to hear your thoughts. thanks for all the recs 🧚 ❤
I’ve only heard good things about that duology. Can’t wait to get to it. 🤗 Thanks for watching until the end. I really thought this video may have been too long for most people. I almost split it in two 😅
I just recently ordered a few of octavia Butlers books. Amazon had a sale on them. I’ll have to check out P Djeli Clark. 🤗 Thank you for the recommendations
For adult fantasy you should try Bones to the Wind by Tatiana Obey, L. Penelope has multiple books but her historical fantasy is better than her fantasy romance, Son of the Storm by Suyi Davies Okungbowa, and I Am King by Damien Shillingford
Hi Kayla! New subbie here. I just found your channel and I love your videos! I’m an avid fantasy, thriller, and romance reader, and I’m trying to get into more historical fiction and sci-fi, so your channel and recommendations are just what I’m looking for. Based on the recs I’ve seen in your videos so far, I think you’d like Indigo by Beverly Jenkins (Black historical romance author) and the companion novels to that book. There’s also a series called The Loyal League by Alyssa Cole that I think you’d like.
The rage of dragons 5 stars it's amazing I'm going to reread and read the second installment. It's so well written. And to think it was initially self published
Not sure if you're an epic fantasy reader. But good epic fantasy writers will introduce the magic system and instead of explaining and info dumping... eventually you'll understand the magic system as things occur. I'm so happy you spoke about this underrated GEM!
Blood debts has been on my radar. I just recently got self same metal, poison we drink, & the poison heart duology. This video makes me want to move them up on my tbr 😂
Are you able to do Historical Fiction written by Black Authors? I’m just getting into it and recently finished The Reformatory which is my favorite book of the year. Now I’m on the lookout for more in the genre. Do you have any recommendations?
So far The Reformatory has been my favorite book this year as well. 🤗 Some of my favorites off the top of my head are The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson, The Davenports by Krystal Marquis, The Water Dancer by Ta-nehisi Coates, The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett, Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, and The Orphan Mother by Robert Hucks. I will definitely do a video sharing the historical fiction on my shelf, it’s for sure my favorite genre. 🥰
Hello Kayla. I'm a new author that's just written my first novel in the sci-fi fantasy Afrofuturism genre. It's called Quantum Interface. If you are interested, I can send you the PDF for review. Let me know.

Historical fiction is my favorite genre as well. Thanks for the recommendations. I am interested in The Blueprint.🧚🏾♂️
You should try NK Jemisin and Octavia E. Butler :) (if you haven’t already)
I’ve had a few people recommend them. They are on my shelf, can’t wait to get to them. 🤗
