Man, I’ve tried so many times to give ASU another chance, and every time I just reach the same old conclusion: it’s just not very good. There are only 3 songs on the whole album I like (this being one of them), but the rest just comes off like a bad experiment. Their first 3 albums are pretty much perfect, the live album is arguably the greatest live album ever recorded, and the 4th album is only barely less great than the first 3, so after setting the bar that high, ASU is just a big step down. That said, it’s still better than anything they released until the self-titled ‘97 album. All Shook Up was the beginning of the big fall.
@@johnsoos6907 Not really. It’s an improvement over the last few albums that preceded it, but that’s not really saying much. This is from their appearance on "Saturday NIght Live" in early 1981, I believe. That was probably the worst season of SNL ever---Gilbert Gottfried, Gail Matthius, Charles Rocket---ugh! Fortunately, Cheap Trick delivered a great performance, as usual!
It’s hard to imagine SNL ever being any worse than it is today, but I’m old enough to remember what it was like in ‘81, and yeah. Pretty goddamn awful. Especially coming in right after it’s original 5 year run with the classic cast of Belushi, Murray, Radner, Akroyd, etc. I’m amazed they kept it going through that little dumpster fire.

S.N.L. did not prove the best vehicle for Gilbert Gottfried's talent. Not did THICKE OF THE NIGHT, his next bomb on television but as we know, he did fine in the long run. I thought Charles Rocket (R.I.P. Charles) was funny and was unfairly kicked off SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. Gail Matthius made my heart pound so loud, I could not hear her.

Rick got on just fine with Pete. Pete had some problems with substances, which ultimately led to his being fired, but it was never a matter of resentment.
This is from the infamous 1981 season of SNL. It's considered one of the worst. Gilbert Gottfried was in the cast I believe. I remember SCTV was doing well and I saw magazine stories saying that they should replace SNL. They Got Eddie Murphy and a new cast the next year I believe and it got bood again. This is a bright spot in a otherwise dismall season.
Agree that Stop This Game is a bonafide CT classic, but yeah All Shook Up was a big let down at the time, and for me it wasn’t so much how it was produced (though it was definitely OVERproduced) as much as the songs themselves were just poorly written, for the most part. ASU came off like some half-baked experiment, and it signaled the beginning of a 17 year long creative dry spell for CT. There may have been a few isolated gems during that period (most of them on the “Next Position Please” album), but it took all the way up to the ‘97 self-titled album before they finally got their mojo back. ASU was the first misstep on that long, dark, dismal journey.
Its not the songs that in don't like its sound, it sounds like the bass was the main instrument. When I first got this album it was on 8 track. I thought the bad sound was either the 8 track quality or the old crappy radio/8 track player in the car. Then I got the cassette and it sounded the same .then cd , no different.
I always thought this album, All Shook Up, was way underrated. It is a joy to listen to front to back.

@@bareveldskanaal3887 How so? He got a huge settlement and is still legally a member of Cheap Trick.
Pete Comita on bass. Met CT during this tour. Rick is constantly "coaching" Pete on here...and I don't think they liked each other...
Comita is a good bass player, but Peterson is the best for Cheap Trick,he's the original!
Rick played some jokes along with Pete, they had laughs at this show, they didn't hated each other, man :D
I think you're reading too much into it
Rick got on just fine with Pete. Pete had some problems with substances, which ultimately led to his being fired, but it was never a matter of resentment.
just saw the visual and vocal similarity to tesla's jeff keith ..

Michael Seymour Nope
yeh....nothin like him ...more like tom waits
WHAT, ARE YOU GUYS TONE DEAF OR WHAT ?
😳
This is from the infamous 1981 season of SNL. It's considered one of the worst. Gilbert Gottfried was in the cast I believe. I remember SCTV was doing well and I saw magazine stories saying that they should replace SNL. They Got Eddie Murphy and a new cast the next year I believe and it got bood again.
This is a bright spot in a otherwise dismall season.
Bun E. looks like a shifty accountant.
I never cared for this album, the sound quality sucks. But stop this game is awesome live.
Then I got the cassette and it sounded the same .then cd , no different.
back then that is what they called it
