- monster high has been trending lately for good reasons and bad, mostly bad, but that's okay, we'll be talking about both. this is a history and the analysis of the message and legacy of monster high.

draculaura isn't as mean as i made her sound?? uhm she's a little like. abrasive for part of the movie and otherwise she's nice, and i didn't know that actually doesn't carry over between the movie and the show so she's closer to g1 draculaura in the show so i do apologize for that!! someone also pointed out that clawdeen is more afro-latina in her genetic makeup, i did just chalk her down to being mixed because i hadn't heard any specifics on her race up until just now!! other than that the only other minor mistake i made was that invisi billy actually came out later than what i listed him as, 2014 rather than 2013! thank you for letting me know where i messed up i did actually know it got a little fuzzy in there like 😐😐😐 i always start worrying about how i could have worded things better but yea ***

Draculaura isn't a mean girl in the new show. She's a nice character but is a perfectionist because "Daughter of Dracula".
In the animated series, they remove the fangs, but are seen when the characters open their mouths. So Abbey's underbite is still there.
BTW, what are your thoughts on Clawd's redesign?
I ACTUALLY REALLY LIKE CLAWD i hadn't seen him before i wrote this and happened to see him while i was editing and i will say he's genuinely my favorite design so far

@@xephrou The point is Draculaura is still nice just a bit "over achiever" and while she isnt bubbly in g3,she is still the heart of the trio
Also about Ghoulia, I hate that they made her verbal, she also had a limp they cut.
But I do like one thing about her. She's Canadian (concept art has a Canadian flag, and she wears a toque in the cartoon)

As someone that was really hairy as a child (I had to stop wearing leggings in middle grade bc my leg hair was so abundant and really dark and it made me feel self concious at the time) I related a lot to Clawdeen especifically because of the hair shaving part, and it made me feel seen because for many years I thought I had an abnormal amount of hair, and later had to shave frequently as well lmao
Maybe it's a language barrier, but I never understood why people criticize that part in her bio? Love your videos!
that's actually a really good thing, i do think it was included BECAUSE it's a part of her that she has to adapt to and that's okay! a lot of people criticize it for the whole like "bleh bleh bleh little kids shouldn't be told to shave" but like in special cases there are people who relate to that struggle and cope with it in different ways! shaving is just clawdeen's way

I had to ask a few friends who actually had instagram to send it! my friend showed me a pic of the message you send after she sent the art I made and it made my day that you thought it was awesome and to see it in one of your videos made me super happy to see that you liked it! ^_^ anyways monster high. I loved monster high so much when I was little!! actully, my dad showed me a picture of me when I was 5 wearing my moster high costume with the Halloween buckets of Frankie and clawdeen that they sold at McDonald’s that year! I had so many of these dolls and the first time I picked one up was probably in 2012 when i was living up north! I saw a doll that caught my eye and it was Skull Shores Lagoona. I asked to get it only to be told that we will get it another time and we actually did! It was a small shop in the city that I can’t remember what it was it was a very long time ago but that started my obsession. I also remember going on like a bus or a train from a fun day in the city and loosing one of her arms! D: my bestie also had a huge collection and I was always a bit jealous about how many of the doll I wanted she had. This year(last year) when G3 came out I started building my collection again and have them displayed on a shelf. Also I found out HotTopic was selling monster high merch and I went crazy omg! Sadly I don’t own any right now but one day! ^_^ anyways I really like the video and I’m glad you liked the art!
the skull shores dolls go the hardest of all the special versions of the main ghouls... skull shores cleo still eludes me but i would like to have her one day,, i also dressed up as draculaura one year for halloween i actually wanted to mention it but i couldn't find the picture i have lying around on some computer or something but yea it was cute :) thank you again for the fanart i really do appreciate it!! ^_^ 💕

I haven't seen the movie or the new show, I didn't realize they made Draculaura *mean* ! As much as I like the sculpts of the new dolls, it makes me sad how all of the dolls now have to look... soft? Sweet? It looks great for characters like Draculaura, but idk - if they really want to promote diversity so much with gen 3 why cant any of their girls have sharp cheekbones and strong jawlines? I do like Deuce's new face mold even though his fashion is boring, I've never liked most male doll molds but I'm actually sort of excited to see what male dolls will (eventually) come out. Unless they choose Heath.
a good hoodude redesign would absolutely win me over tbh... and i did have a line more closely addressing this that unfortunately like? corrupted or whatever but she's like that because her dad has high expectations of her, and someone actually pointed out to me that she's not actually so abrasive in the show, that's more in the movie, so maybe she's not all that bad,, and yea i do agree that body diversity should also include the facial structure!!

also draculaura isnt mean in the show just in the show shes a little cold. clawdeen isnt mix raced shes just afrolatina, meaning shes shes 100% black she just happens to be hispanic as well. the show canon is different from the movie canon because the animators were given little source material. other than that, great video and i really liked that you explained g1 had flaws as well instead of hailing it as perfect in every way like a lot of people do
YEA I ACTUALLY SAW WHILE I WAS EDITING it was like. too late in the process for me to edit it to move him around to the right year, somewhere along the line i had to separately write all the dolls down in order and i think i just accidentally put him in the wrong space even that early in the game lol,,, and thank you for clearing that up for me! again i don't actually watch the show and i was like,, in proximity of the movie when my sister watched it so otherwise all i had for reference was what i'd heard other people say about it so i focused my research and stuff more on that, i think at some point i kinda blurred the line between the show and the movie because i didn't know any better ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My only issue with the Clawdeen and Deuce relationship is that Clawdeen is canonically a lesbian. I mean it's okay if Deuce does have a crush on Clawdeen, but I don't want them to get into actual relationship.

I think with Ghoulia. In g1, she was just speaking another language, cause the other characters could understand her when she spoke. And I think the reason why she didn't moan in the movie was because it would be a little inappropriate to have the actress who plays her moan & groan for the whole movie.
EDIT: At 20:23 I think the reason why Mattel is releasing g1 style dolls now is cause during g2, Mattel completely neglected original fans & only focused on the reboot. So Mattel is acknowledging g1 fans with these dolls, while working on g3.
yea that makes sense!! she hasn't been shown in the show as far as i know so there is a possibility that she'll have that again,, and yea i hadn't considered that mattel was just also putting focus towards g1 fans just because,,
tbh i think they/them frankie is the biggest brain move the reboot has made, like first off i love that there’s an explicitly non-binary character in the main cast, but also i think it kind of like plays into them as a frankenstein’s monster. yknow, being composed of the remains of multiple people, they/them is also a pronoun used in a plural sense, as an enby myself i approve of the joke.

You forgot that the slavic representation with draculaura is lost and many slavs pointed out. People still claim she's romanian when they don't ever bring it up and only talk about her new asian side unlike clawdeen who is actually said to be both. And the fact that her dad has an American accent in the cartoon while he had romanian in the movie. It was targeted. I wish you had brought that up. As for abbey, people say her being Russian was a mistake even though she always was Russian influenced. Her family, the few times she speaks her language and the fact that people don't know that Russia has made contact with India, Nepal, China, and Tibet, and Pakistan. And even a Russian man became a monk. And how people are drawing the line at a mixed abbey but are fine with anyone else being mixed. So yeah they did erase lots of rep.
Also draculaura in the movie is filipino but Taiwanese in the show. And they made her the smart pressures asian and lagoona violent which are both overdone.
Another thing slavophobic people do to excuse the changes was claim the accents were stereotypical when eastern Europeans didn't care. And the continue to speak over them.
yea like i did just reference the most talked about points i had access to or had seen myself and was knowledgeable about enough to talk about, it is a shame that not more people talk about the very deep racial and cultural significances of certain characters and how they were constantly either changed or given stereotypical writing because it's definitely an important conversation to have!! i am going to do a separate video on the actual movies and webseries so i will have another opportunity to bring up some arguments i didn't get to in this video!! and i will definitely keep this comment in mind when i get around to writing that script, thank you so much for giving me your insight

I tried to get into the original Monster High, but I couldn't really see the appeal. I decided to give the new version a try, and I was actually surprised. What I like most about it is that the new version of Twyla is autistic, and so am I. I'm like her, in that sometimes I can't handle loud noises, and that I like to take my headphones with me wherever I go.
