In this video we set sail from Gold Rock City on our intrepid voyage to Dragon Cliffs in our tiny starting vessel. We take with us four barrels of water, fishing hooks, lamb meat, a cooking stove and some mission cargo which is mostly consisting of cheese and dates. We buy a telescope / spyglass for our adventure too and head off into the vast blue ocean. We catch many, many fish with our fishing rod and cook them on the stove until they turn red. The weather is kind too us and we are able to navigate by sun with the sundial compass and by the north star at night with the quadrant. We do drop some things overboard and we shall continue our adventure in the next episode! Oh, and we also spot a few amusing floating bugs, but that's the way with early access. I'm having loads of fun in this game!

6 mins into the video. About to start a voyage of epic proportions with inspiring and upbeat music as befitting such a monumental challenge. Then forgetting to untie the boat? LOL my confidence level in you plummeted. Still, it'll be great upload either way.

@@t.a.ackerman4098 sensibility is overrated. The way he loaded his ship kind of reminds me of the people who put too much stuff in their trunk and then tie the open lid down :D

That floating thing wasn’t a bug, it was a mirage, your character has been at sea for too long and is clearly starting to hallucinate. 😂

About the spyglass:
You can Zoom in and out with the mouse scroll;
If you press the Right mouse button, you lower the spyglass to watch over it.
First time I did this voyage, I was hammered by strong winds and waves all the time, always with less than half sail, moving slowly as hell. When the water started to turn green (halfway), I was already out of water.
Lessons learned.
Oh wow! So when it turns green I need to still have 2 barrels of water left. I hope I have enough!

Yeah, the sell sign seems to be one of the items I sold. I sold a water bottle off camera. That or a mermaid or too much rum, yes. :D

Oh, I tried to pull that one like two days ago, sailed with only two barrels of water, way to few food and only made it just because storm took my boat closer to dragon cliffs than gold rock - so I woke up moored in a new location, with empty pockets but with all the cargo, then, fast forward five minutes and I'm respected trader in two regions with 13k gold. Love it.
I'm getting very worried that I don't have enough water now. I wish I had one barrel more. Thanks for your comment, hope you're enjoying the videos! :)
@@PorthosUK well yes, I am enjoying your videos! But if I could suggest one thing is to bring music a notch or two down, sometimes it overpowers your voice. Besides that it's all good!
@@Cidiuss Hmm, the music is at -19dB and my voice is usually around -10dB. I'll take another look at it and maybe bring it down to -21dB. Thanks for the feed-back.
@@PorthosUK It seems fine, maybe it's just frequencies meddling with each other here and there (for example vocal parts around 7:40). I'm not entirely sure if you do, but sound to me like youre using compressor on your voicetrack (and that's good). Just dropping some ideas: maybe mess around with eq of music in low-mids?
I do use a compressor. :) I'll take more care with the more intense music while I'm talking in future and play it back more to make sure it's okay.
Planning for this same trip myself, watching carefully to see how well your food and water last!

I am absolutely terrified you've over loaded your boat lol. If a storm does hit, be sure to pull the sail all the way back and turn into the wind(into the waves) and ride it out, before continuing east.
I made the trip from golden rock to dragon cliffs in this boat, did it on 3 crates of tuna and 2 barrels of water. With you fishing you might of only needed 2 crates of tuna to get you there.
You did it with 2 barrels? That brings me hope. However, my water seems to be going down 3 units of water per cup. Not sure if that is a bug or if it's always been like that.
@@PorthosUK yeah all the mugs seem to fill to 3 units of water, and the bottle fills to 5. Each gulp gives you the same amount of hydration back though. (Bottle does seem a little buggy though, it will give me more than I try to take sometimes. I always use the mug when getting my rum for that reason)

you really have that little boat loaded up there it's just about time for a bigger ship to put all your stuff insides it and try not to drop thing you really need over board but that was a nice sailing video keep up the good work

I hope your luck holds with the weather. When there are storms the seas around Al'Ankh are some of the roughest in the game, in my experiance. I've seen swells so bad it's exposed the sea bed. I've had my Brig hit the sea bed too! If there was ship damage I would have sunk right there.
That does indeed sound terrifying. If I see a storm on the horizon I shall divert and try to go around it if I can. Thanks for the scary story! :D
Oof. that sounds like it needs fixing. Boat sinks and crash into the sea bed, but not the other way around.
@@obiwanfisher537 Fun fact, it is actually a thing irl. It's more common in fresh water, specifically the Great Lakes in North America. Ploughing is the term for a ship's bow being dropped down below the water when coming down from a wave. Ploughing to bottom is the same thing but the bow strikes the ocean or lake floor. What happened to me in my Brig in game is called Bottoming. Where the ship is dropped straight down between two wave crests as they travel past and it strikes it's keel on the ocean or lake floor. One of the more popular theories about how the Edmund Fitzgerald sank is that she bottomed onto a shoal and was torn open before rising back up. Then she limped away taking on water faster than her pumps could clear it before going down for good.

Since you asked at 13:59, I shall make a prediction, and edit this comment as I watch on.
My prediction is that with a 70% likelihood you'll make it, since you only have to keep the latitude constant. If you get into a storm all your cargo might be your doom, but I don't think you will get into any storms on the journey.
EDIT: What a cliffhanger to end on heh. Will you get your only means of getting food back? (Probably since you are an olympic swimmer in this game).

When I tried going to Dragon Cliffs, I also accepted the missions with the lightest cargo. I had a tailwind pushing me the first couple days but then the wind shifted and it was rougher going. My boat sank when it keeled over in rough seas. Hoping you have better luck than I did!
Thank you for your comment! Sorry to hear of the tragic loss of your good ship. I am probably not a good example of safe and steady seamanship as I live life on the edge with how much cargo I load and how I let my ship list, but perhaps I have been lucky and it keeps it interesting. :)

My first (failed) attempt to do this was met with four days of continually heavy seas followed by three days of dead headwinds. All the while every fish I managed to catch "ate" it's hook. Finally gave up after accidentally dropping my quadrant overboard at dusk. I hope you have better luck than I did!

The end is the best! Lol I accidentally threw my lvl2 spyglass over the side in the middle of the night yesterday, so what did I do? Replaced it with a lvl 3 for 10k gold of course 😬

11:07 I'm about to finish my own voyage to dragon cliffs and I been looking at the sun compass all the time at different times of the day and it always indicated the same latitude.
I haven't finished the video so maybe you reached the same conclusion later on. If not, I would love fore you to test it.
Yeah, i'll have a look in the episode after next. It might make sense with a longer shadow reaching the same line with further to go as the direction changes.

What does units in distance represent?/ How do you read distance?/what the heck is all about distance per unit thing and that 4 per mile written below it? At 1:53 I mean

Hey, it can be a little confusing I guess.
"How do you read distance?" :- Where it says "Distance 866 miles", this tell you that you have to carry your cargo for 866 miles to the destination.
"what the heck is all about distance per unit thing" :- Well, that isn't distance per unit. That is gold per unit. The total reward is 3902 gold, but there are two units to carry, so that is 1951 gold per unit in reward.
"and that 4 per mile written below it?" That 5 / mile means you will get paid the equivalent of 5 gold per mile.

It does, it turns black and gives no boost to your hunger bar. It takes more than one peice of firewood to do it though. I have found that if I leave the food on the stove after the fire goes out it keeps cooking for a while, presumably because the stove is still hot, and often burns.
fun fact: it absolutely does. Turn around for a few seconds and youre about to eat some coal-stained fish-shaped object with literally zero calories.
