That looks like both hard yet fun work. Reminds me of weeding but underwater. I'd love to go diving and do something that helps nature at the same time.
AWWWW HELL YEAH I've been waiting so long to see you guys annihilate those kina! Ohhhh this is such a treat to watch and hear. So many things happening in one video. You're saving the ecosystem, feeding fish, creating asmr content which actually helps people's mental health, selling the kina to make a profit, making money off of youtube, and you're educating people/spreading awareness about this kina problem. Also the kina are FAT for this video. Very plump and succulent looking. I've never eaten kina. It looks degusting, but I can also understand as a food lover that if I did not find kina degusting looking then they would be very appealing with their orange color and shine. I can see the hype, but I'm not about to eat the hype. Also I'm a little high on pot WHICH IS LEGAL here in this place I live in. Yeah. Anyway, I wish you good health and safety while you decimate those kina from the ocean floor. Damn, now I gotta rewind the video cause I spent the first 8 minutes typing all this shit out. My bad, its the pot. Zap Pack by High Heads if you're wondering.
This insanely good therapeutic ASMR content to play on a second screen at work with music in the background (Volume: 70% this and 30% the music). source: Currently at work doing this
It is amazing to see the difference in where the kina have been populating and where they haven't been to yet. Maybe I should make it my New Years resolution to get my free diving certificate, since I've been practicing swimming.
Ngl I'd do this kind of work if my ass didn't have this unreasonable fear of the ocean, the only way I can appreciate it's beauty it's through videos 😭
Seeing your mother-ship demonstrates the scale of the operation! and the problem; that you're able to harvest this many pests and make a business out of it.
It seems that some times you go back up with some that you skipped over(like at 2:03 ). Is it because you just need to go up to catch your breath and then go back down to get them (with it being edited out), or is it because you need to ensure the Kina population doesn't fully disappear in the region? Great videos btw
I think he mentioned in another video the goal is to control the population, not to drive them out, they’re still endemic to New Zealand so I assume he’s leaving some to repopulate!
Free diving and dive fishing is my absolute dream in life but when i tried a free diving course for the first time ive got really bad pain in my right ear even at shallows.
Can I ask why so many are left behind? I know it would be hard to get them all but do you go back over it or are they just not a worry to future urchin takeovers. Or are they being left to allow them to rebuild for more kina collection later. I imagine it’s not the latter as that seems like it wouldn’t be a worry
could we please get a vid showing what happens after you collect all the kina? im really curious what you do with the buggers. is there a machine you put em in?
I wonder how much these guys get paid and how they get paid, like is it per hour or per urchin? (mostly interested because it seems like a fun job to do)
Holy crap it took me a while to realize this guy isn't even using scuba. Impressive as hell.
Wait he’s not?
Freediving
Yeah I think going out and doing this would be Hella fun but I don't have it in me to do it without scuba gear
they got to have huge lungs to hold their breath lmao i wouldnt last
@BavarianPiper If you're able to do this while snorkeling you're better off not using scuba at all. No tanks to carry.
As a biologist living in the southeastern USA, this makes me feel all fuzzy inside. Keep up the great work!
Fishies: Hey guys Trey is here
Urchins: Oh no Trey is here..
The sea star aww thanks for turning him right way round.

Corokina boy be like "Oops sorry my little man, here you go"
He fixed him back on the rock like a Croc Jibbit 🤣🤣

kina: *eating
diver: "keep my kelp out your !@#$ing mouth!"
one day I'll find out what they do with the urchins
pretty sure a lot of them are actually processed
Some people eat them
They sell them to local food markets so I, as in, SPECIFICALLY ME, can eat them.
@@BlueSourcandy not just anybody….
@@Aurora_Valentine we got us an uni-vore
I love how the second the fish hear the "tap tap tap" they all turn and look
Genuinely contemplating getting a diver's license, then flying across the globe just to help for free (or for a snack, I can be bribed with food)
I was thinking you could probably get tourists to do it too, but you'd have to work pretty hard to make sure they're not doing more harm than good
@@mr.d.rektorstudios That and you'd also have the responsibility for them, I wouldn't want that burden honestly

A successful swim and a good fish tax paid
What a treat! 20 mins of lovely schlllck schlllck schlllck, bag stuffing, plus lots of fish tax! Bonus Australian accent commentary! 🤗🤗🩷 thanks, boys!
New Zealand accent surely, since they're in Aoteroa?
@@FaultAndDakranon that could be, I’m not an expert on that lol
Never even seen the ocean.. But man these videos are awesome. Very relaxing. Keep up the awesome work man. Thanks for the content
I hope you get to visit one day.
I looooveee those videos! So crazy to me that so many get removed by people like you guys daily and they are STILL such a big problem..
Tribbles outta control!

It is also amazing how the culling is working, the kelp forest is restoring
I love watching you heal nature

I kinda wish I could have a go at this...
this must be in a "best jobs you can do" category
fun to see fish getting snacks from those invasive buggers
Amazing! Greetings from ITALY 🌈💐 💐💐💐🌺
18:42 that is so sweet omg
So satisfying video I have ever seen on youtube best job
Them urchins gonna need reinforcements, keep the videos up!, really love em

So as I was watching this all of a sudden, it came to me. These things look like Tribbles. Anyone a Star Trek fan..👽👽😁
They bring so many troubles
This seems like a fairly enjoyable job to have, keeps you fit and hopefully pays well.

I can’t believe you get to do that all the time. I am so jealous
Free diving and dive fishing is my absolute dream in life but when i tried a free diving course for the first time ive got really bad pain in my right ear even at shallows.
Do you coordinate with local iwi about harvesting or is it covered under some commercial fishing law?
Isso é muito satisfatório! Legal que você devolve um aperitivo aos peixes heheh
I gave the thousandth like :)
Niiice
17:05 he ate some urchin too lmao
dream job
the fish swarm at 6:20 😍
looks like a fun job
damn.. i want all of that sea urchin roe!!!
Very satisfying!
These things look like the tumbleweed of the ocean.

how did you get this job. i know many industries you have to have an ‘in’ but I wanna know what the hiring process looks like for kina annihilator
Wish I could do that for a living!
could we please get a vid showing what happens after you collect all the kina? im really curious what you do with the buggers. is there a machine you put em in?
Joke answer: repurposed orphan crusher
Real answer: they get sold for meat
that looks like cold water 🥶
Dang thise are big kina!
Фантастика! Круто!
These things have troubled me in Somalia. Diving equipment is not available in Somalia. If diving equipment was available I would do it like this.
C'est tellement satisfaisant
How much do you actually make doing this? I've been wondering for a while
You should make a video explaining your equipment. I am very curious.
Always i cannot watch this till the end....coz this sounds make me sleep....
14:56 did you eat that?😅
I was wondering that too haha
They're delicious fresh
Must be a lot of people dive for sea urchins.
How does one aquire this job exactly? (this looks amazing)

Rest in peace to those corals

Just a genuine question tho, why dont they use scuba diving gears??? So every urchin is collected??
sea durian
Have seen any sea cucumber? I luve them but there aren’t fresh ones any in New Zealand 😢
What is the name of the company you work for ?

¿Cómo se llama este tipo de trabajo? Me parece entretenido

Has a shark ever come to see what you're doing there?
what species are those kina
I wonder how much these guys get paid and how they get paid, like is it per hour or per urchin? (mostly interested because it seems like a fun job to do)
